The document discusses criteria for selecting recipients of a limited number of available heart pumps. It provides a list of candidates for the pumps and their backgrounds. A group must establish criteria, judge the candidates against those criteria, and select the top three candidates to present to the class. The group's job is to 1) describe criteria, 2) judge candidates, 3) take notes on decisions, and 4) choose and explain the top three candidates if more than three qualify.

Reaching LGBTQ youth where they are: On their phonesYTH
LGBTQ adolescents face challenges beyond those of their heterosexual peers including: decisions about coming out; bullying; violence; pressure to engage in heterosexual behaviors, resulting in increased risk of pregnancy and exposure to STIs; and high rates of HIV and STIs among teen MSM. To help meet the sexual education and health needs of LGBTQ teens, Planned Parenthood is developing an intervention to meet LGBTQ youth where they are: on their phones. To create LGBTQ-specific tools, we are conducting new research and applying learnings from our previous development of nine digital tools geared toward heterosexual African-American and Latino youth. This presentation will discuss the original digital tools, learnings from focus groups with LGBTQ teens, and plans for developing new tools for this population.

2. CRITERIA
A criterion is a standard or
measure of something, like a test
of qualifications.
3. Criteria for College Admissions
• A certain score on the SAT or
ACT
• Passing certain courses
• Writing an essay
• Minimum GPA
4. Developing Criteria
The importance of developing good
criteria cannot be underestimated.
The criteria you establish must reflect
your position on the best candidates
for the heart pump.
5. Selection Criteria
The selection criteria your group
creates will be the values and ideas
needed to make the best choice for a
heart pump recipient. They will be
the factors against which candidates
are assessed to determine who
should receive the heart pump.
6. Your Job as a Team
This week there is a new group of applicants who
are interested in obtaining a heart pump. Each of
these people will die within 48 hours if they do
not obtain the use of the heart pump which is
available through the Heart Foundation.
Unfortunately, only three heart pumps are
available, and the board of directors must
determine which candidates should benefit from
the available pumps. Each group must create
criteria for judging the applicants. The criteria
must be agreed upon by the entire group.
7. Your Job as a Team
1. Working with your partners, describe the characteristics needed
to meet the criteria for use of the heart pump.
2. Study each candidate who is asking for use of the heart pump.
Judge whether the person meets the criteria established by the
group. Discuss the decisions with your partners and explain
why/why not each candidate meets the criteria.
3. During the discussion, take notes in complete sentences. State
the candidates who match the criteria and why. For the
candidates who do not meet the criteria, write an explanation why
not.
4. If you have more than three candidates who meet the criteria,
determine which three are the best matches. Explain why.
5. Be prepared to make you recommendations to the whole class
including the criteria established by your group.
