प्रमादालस्तयननद्राभिस्ततन्ननबध्नानत िारत ||14.8||
tamas tv ajñāna-jaṁ viddhi mohanaṁ sarva-dehinām
pramādālasya-nidrābhis tan nibadhnāti bhārata
• born out of the ignorance
• always sleeping,
• dellussion no clarity in mind,
• no aims and ambitions,
• attachments, carelessness, animal like people
• always pushing the work
• never care for the loss of injury caused to others
by their actions
• nor they pay any attention to their own status
and ability when they act.
यातयामं गतरसं पूतत पययुषितं च यत्|
उच्छिष्टमषप चामेध्यं भोजनं तामसषियम्||17.10||
yāta-yāmaṁ gata-rasaṁ pūti paryuṣhitaṁ cha yat
uchchhiṣhṭam api chāmedhyaṁ bhojanaṁ tāmasa-priyam
• stale
• tasteless
• stinking
• cooked overnight,
refuse and impure
food
• meat,drinking
smoking
A sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity can
contribute to be a risk factor for health

रजो रागात्मकं षिद्धि तृष्णासङ्गसमयद्भिम्|
तच्ननबध्नातत कौनतेय कमुसङ्गेन देहिनम्||14. 7||
rajo rāgātmakaṁ viddhi tṛiṣhṇā-saṅga-samudbhavam
tan nibadhnāti kaunteya karma-saṅgena dehinam
• An actions which is done by one longing for
desire or gain done with egoism or with much
effort is declared to Rajas
• Super ambitious kind people all the time activity
oriented, attachment, possession, restless,
always angry, egoistic, keep on initiating the
projects with lots of confusion, work under the
tension and restless

आिारा राजसस्येष्टा दय:खशोकामयिदा: ||17. 9||
kaṭv-amla-lavaṇāty-uṣhṇa- tīkṣhṇa-rūkṣha-vidāhinaḥ
āhārā rājasasyeṣhṭā duḥkha-śhokāmaya-pradāḥ
• Food: bitter, sour, hot, burning that
stimulates the nervous system speeds up
metabolism and activities, spicy and fast
food

tatra sattvaṁ nirmalatvāt prakāśhakam anāmayam
sukha-saṅgena badhnāti jñāna-saṅgena chānagha
• an action which is free from attachment
• which is done without love of hatred
• without desirous of the fruit of action
• sattva action is the best. works own sake in an
attitude that work itself is worship.
• undertaken without any anxiety
• Clarity of thinking not easily polluted or destrub,
no stress, no anxiety, always calm and relax
BONDAGES
• sattva: happiness and knowledge
• rajas: action
• tamas: irresponsible, lazyness and sleep
• story: Ramakrishna parble-the three robbers
RESULT
• Sattva predominent:every sense organs in
the body and in the antahkarana the light
of intelligency( viveka) shine -takes
towards holistic health
• Rajas predominent:greed, activity, unrest,
stess-takes towards illness
• Tamas predominent:ignornce, darkness,
miscomprehension-takes towards death

TRANSCENDING THE THREE GUNAAS
LEADS TO HOLISTIC HEALTH (14.20)
• when one is able to trascend these three
gunas associated with the material body,
he can become free from birth,death,old
age and their distresses and can enjoy
nectar of eternal bliss even in this life
Attributes of those who transcend
the three gunaas (14.22 to 14.27)
• he does not hate illumination, attachment,
delusion
• he does not remains unconcerned and does not
feel disturbed by threegunaas
• equal worth upon stone and gold, balanced in
pain & pleasure, pleasant & unpleasant, blame &
praise
• maintains balance in honour and dishonour,
equal to friends and foe, detached from all
undertakings
