Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given; And the
government will be upon His shoulder. And
His name will be called Wonderful,
Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His
government and peace There will be no
end, Upon the throne of David and over His
kingdom, To order it and establish it with
judgment and justice From that time
forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD
of hosts will perform this.
EVERLASTING FATHER
A. Like the name “Mighty God,” “Everlasting
Father” places the son outside the pale of
created beings; He is eternal as is God. When
we get back to the beginning, He already was
(John 1:1).
B. In his letter to the Colossians Paul writes
(Col 1:16-17) For by Him [Jesus] all things
were created, both in the heavens and on
earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones
or dominions or rulers or authorities--all
things have been created through Him and
for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all
things hold together.
EVERLASTING FATHER
C. And in case one is tempted to believe that such
was never said of the Messiah in the Old
Testament writings, think again. For it was written
…(Micah 5:2) "But as for you, Bethlehem
Ephrathah, too little to be among the clans of
Judah, from you One will go forth for Me to be
ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago,
from the days of eternity."
D. This is a great problem for those who reject the
idea that Jesus is God.
E. Great attempts have been made to describe the
Godhead, Trinity, The Three-in-one. Father, Son &
Holy Spirit
F. We may never understand it as we are limited in
this flesh.
G. But Jesus was to be called the Everlasting Father.
I. JESUS IS GOD (LAST WEEK)
A. John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God. 2 He was in the beginning with
God. 3 All things were made through Him,
and without Him nothing was made that was
made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the
light of men. 5 And the light shines in the
darkness, and the darkness did not
comprehend it.
B. John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and
dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the
glory as of the only begotten of the Father,
full of grace and truth.
II. JESUS AND THE FATHER ARE ONE
A.John 10:30 I and My Father are one."
B.John 17:21 that they all may be one, as
You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that
they also may be one in Us, that the world
may believe that You sent Me.
C.1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy
great is the mystery of godliness: God was
manifested in the flesh, Justified in the
Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among
the Gentiles, Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory.
III. THOSE WHO HAD SEEN
JESUS, SAW GOD
A. John 14:7-11 "If you had known Me, you would
have known My Father also; and from now on you
know Him and have seen Him." 8 Philip said to
Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient
for us." 9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you
so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip?
He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how
can you say, 'Show us the Father'? 10 Do you not
believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in
Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak
on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in
Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the
Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for
the sake of the works themselves.
III. THOSE WHO HAD SEEN
JESUS, SAW GOD
B. John 15:23-24 He who hates Me hates My
Father also. 24 If I had not done among
them the works which no one else did,
they would have no sin; but now they
have seen and also hated both Me and My
Father.
IV. JESUS HAD DIVINE
ATTRIBUTES
A.Colossians 2:9 For in Him dwells all
the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
B.Colossians 1:19 For it pleased the
Father that in Him all the fullness
should dwell,
V. BOTH GOD AND JESUS CALL
THEMSELVES THE ALPHA AND OMEGA
A. Isaiah 44:6 "Thus says the LORD, the King of
Israel, And his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts:
'I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me
there is no God.
B. Revelation 21:5-7 reads: "He who is seated
on the throne said 'I am making everything
new!' Then He said `write this down, for these
words are trustworthy and true'. He said to
me: `It is done. I am the Alpha and the
Omega, the Beginning and the End...he who
overcomes will inherit all this and I will be his
God, and he will be my son.'" Here God says
that He is the beginning and the end.
V. BOTH GOD AND JESUS CALL
THEMSELVES THE ALPHA AND OMEGA
C. In Revelation 22:12,13, Jesus (see 22:16)
says that He is the beginning and the end:
"Behold I am coming soon! My reward is
with me, and I will give to everyone
according to what he has done. I am the
Alpha and the Omega, the First and the
Last, the Beginning and the End." Jesus
clearly shows that He is God by saying
things about Himself that only God can
say about Himself.
VI. HEBREWS SAYS THEIR
THRONE WILL BE FOREVER
A. Psalm 45:6-7 Your throne, O God, is forever
and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the
scepter of Your kingdom. 7 You love
righteousness and hate wickedness;
Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You
With the oil of gladness more than Your
companions.
B. Hebrews 1:8-9 But to the Son He says: "Your
throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter
of righteousness is the scepter of Your
Kingdom. 9 You have loved righteousness
and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your
God, has anointed You With the oil of
gladness more than Your companions.“
VII. TOGETHER THEY WORKED TO
RECONCILE THE WORLD TO GOD
2 Corinthians 5:18-19 Now all things are
of God, who has reconciled us to Himself
through Jesus Christ, and has given us
the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is,
that God was in Christ reconciling the
world to Himself, not imputing their
trespasses to them, and has committed
to us the word of reconciliation.
WILL YOU BE RECONCILED TO
THE EVERLASTING FATHER?
A. God loved the world and sent Jesus to die on the
cross for our sins. John 3:16
B. He wants us to be his children so he can be our
Everlasting Father.
C. THE EVERLASTING FATHER by Roy Allen
The Everlasting Father came to earth as the Son
Great mystery of Godliness in the Belovèd One
God manifest in the flesh for all the world to see
There in Christ dwells the fullness of Godhead bodily
For the Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace
Came from heaven to earth, Satan's captives to release
Bringing us His salvation as earths' pathways He trod
Reaching out with arms opened wide with the love of God
he will be called everlasting father

he will be called everlasting father
