Video Conferencing Learning Community Story in August 2002 16 Videoconferencing end points purchased 11 Secondary schools 2 City Learning Centres – Haydock and Rainhill 3 Loan units for primary schools November 2004 to date Deployment of VC into all Schools 75 End points,  11 Secondary Schools 56 Primary 4 Special & PRU  2 CLCs 1 Rivington Centre  1 Floating MCU, Gateway, Gatekeeper and IPVCR

Video Conferencing Planning Grid AST’s, VC Champions, Consultants, Advisers, teachers, museums and galleries, actors. Facilitators School confident with VC. Schools becoming confident with VC equipment Schools beginning to use VC as a medium for delivering the curriculum Schools using VC for first time Participants Combined QCA units are currently being written by members of the Curriculum Development Team that link together a number of QCA units into a series of 10 to 15 lessons.  All lessons are planned in detail.  These are interspersed with about 5 or 6 videoconferences to draw the participating schools together.  Research and Interview Children research a topic and then prepare a video conference interview session or a number of sessions with an expert or an actor  e.g. Henry VIII Collaboration for learning Schools research a subject and feedback on a regular basis to each other to evaluate learning and to make presentations about what they have learned.  This can take place over a number of conferences. Compete and motivate e.g. Quizzes and competitions Model lessons e.g. Numeracy and Literacy masterclasses to share best practice Citizenship/ Speaking & Listening /PSHE lessons e.g. School Councils joining for debates, joint circle times Joint inset e.g. sharing staff training therefore sharing costs Hotseats e.g. MP or Author answering questions from a group of children Cross phase teaching and learning e.g. Secondary schools giving MFL lessons to feeder Primaries Awareness raising e.g. Governors, parents, trainees participating in lessons Experts and visits e.g. Poet or expert visits one school and others share in costs. Booster lessons/ After school activities e.g. joint clubs Gifted and Talented e.g. children challenged by engaging with G&T pupils in another school  Conferences over ISDN to Museums and galleries etc.  Test Conferences Virtual Prospectus Possible Conferences Enhancing Establishing Developing Focusing Confidence Level

Experience of facilitating at least five conferences. A strong grasp of the technical elements of videoconferencing e.g. How the unit works, using ISDN, MCU, Gateway and Gatekeeper. Experience of sharing data in a variety of ways. Ability to train others in the use of videoconferencing and its Pedagogy. A strong understanding of the elements that make up a high quality videoconference. Ability to evaluate videoconferences. Ability to schedule conferences understanding the resource implications. Experience and understanding of Videoconferencing across the Region through NWLG and UKERNA Experience of taking part in at least ten conferences. Experience of facilitating at least two conferences. Ability to fully operate a videoconferencing unit to make a point to point and multi-point call. Experience of using a concert box. Some understanding of the elements that make up a high quality videoconference. Ability to evaluate videoconferences. Experience of taking part in at least five conferences Able to operate a videoconferencing unit to a basic level e.g. Presents, camera movement, making a call. Able to turn on a unit and move camera around the room. Able to focus camera on an object. Able to make a call from the directory Enhancing Establishing Developing Focusing Confidence Level
