CATCH-UP FRIDAYS ACTION PLAN
S.Y. 2023-2024
I. OBJECTIVES:
General Objective:
To improve overall reading proficiency and comprehension skills among students, with a focus on addressing individual reading challenges,
fostering a love for reading, and ensuring that all students achieve grade-level proficiency or higher.
Specific Objectives:
1. Tailoring interventions to meet the unique needs of each student, whether they struggle with decoding, fluency, comprehension, or other
specific aspects of reading.
2. Creating an atmosphere that encourages a love for reading through engaging and diverse reading materials, activities, and strategies.
3. Regularly assessing students’ reading abilities to track progress, adjust interventions as needed, and ensure that students are advancing
toward grade-level proficiency.
4. Establishing open communication and collaboration with classroom teachers and parents to create a holistic support system for students,
reinforcing reading skills both in and outside the classroom.
5. Implementing instructional strategies and interventions that have been proven effective through research, ensuring a structured and
evidence-based approach to reading improvement.
2. Address: Purok 4 Hawilian, 8513 Esperanza, Agusan del Sur

6. Instilling in students the belief that their reading abilities can be developed through effort, persistence, and effective strategies, promoting a
positive attitude towards learning.
II. SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS
The Department of Education has implemented the K to 12 curriculum in line with the United Nations Millennium Development goal which is to
ensure that Filipino learners achieve universal primary education through Education for All (EFA) movement and global literacy. As a matter of fact, our
Division of Agusan del Sur implemented different programs that will help the learners in improving their reading skills. Project TANDAWAN and Project
DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) are among the programs implemented by DepEd-AgSur to strengthen learners’ reading skills and remediate the slow
readers.
However, despite all means to improve reading proficiency, there are still many struggling readers who need help and is true in Hawilian National
High School. It has been noted for years, that there are students who could not read and understand the text they are reading while most could read but
couldn’t comprehend the given texts. This is the program head’s primary reason in conducting this intervention program to address the least mastered
reading competencies of the students.
Project DARES (Developing Adept Readers through Extensive Scaffolding) a program that aims to reduce the numbers of non-readers and
frustration readers from Grade 7 to 12. This program includes review, remediation, reinforcement and enhancement activities to bridge the critical contents
and competencies of the present curriculum. For Struggling Readers, Peer Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS), a technique in which children work in
peers, taking turns as teacher and learner, to learn a structured sequence of literary skills, such as passage reading and retelling will be used. As well as
the Targeted Reading Intervention which is a one-on-one tutoring model in which the reading teachers work individually with struggling readers scheduled
every second vacant period of the teachers on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The one-on-one session focuses on re-reading fluency, work, and guided
oral reading. For independent readers, Quick Reads and Book Report which includes the reflection of students in their assigned texts were the activities
assigned for them. The project embraces Whole School Approach (WSA) where “All teachers are reading teachers policy” is being sustained and has its
own distinct set of activities within the grasps of the learners according to age and individual pacing and development.
Further, anchored on DepEd Order 173, s. 2019 and on Division Reading Program Project PagPABASA, the school’s reading program did also
subscribe on the 3Bs Initiative, Bawat Bata Bumabasa.
