Since the invention of the telegraph in 1792 (first method of bidirectional communication using technology), and later, the invention of the telephone (patented by Graham Bell), things have changed a lot.
The beginnings of Internet were in 1969 as 'Arpanet', connecting three universities in California and one in Utah. Since then, a revolution that changed the way people communicate took place. Blogs and social networks began to have a great importance in communication.

Energy performance of public lighting systems: analysis of possible scenarios...Germana Borzellieri
Dealing with the issue of energy saving in public lighting, it has been suggested the replacement of mercury vapor lamps with LED ones.
Firstly, needs have been identified: security, visual comfort, low costs and light pollution control involving motorists, pedestrians, maintenance, Public Administration and environment. Based on the requirements provided by regulations, regional laws and the so-called Plan of Light, designed and managed as public lighting tools, solution to the identified requirements has been given.
Secondly, lamps are compared and advantages and disadvantages are displayed. These are based on the parameters related to savings and quality: luminous efficiency, lifetime, color rendering index and color temperature. The study was conducted on mercury vapor lamps, sodium vapor at low and high pressure ones, metal halide, fluorescent lamps, induction and LED lamps. Moreover equipments responsible for light return and luminous flux distribution were further analyzed; supports were analyzed as well. At a later stage, the study has been expanded by looking into the entire plant control systems in order to optimize maintenance and costs.
That being so, it has been hypothesized an ideal path through which the mercury vapor lamps are replaced by LED lamps or high pressure sodium vapor ones, subjected to remote control. A scheme of installation of equipment has been suggested, considering height, spacing, protrusion on the path and its inclination. Photometric curves, consumption, compliance with the rules of existing equipment and installation and operating costs and return on investment have been evaluated as well. The energy and cost savings emerged are remarkable, especially for the LED lamps: their costs are initially high, nonetheless we can face this issue thanks the help provided by third parties such as ESCO and white certificates.

Which life is better arrange or love marriageWedeterna
Arranged marriages are an integral part of Indian culture and tradition. Even today hundreds of couples enter into the sacred institution of marriage, with both the families choosing the better half, for them. A very recent trend that has surfaced is the concept of self arranged marriage.
Report ON Arrange Marriage
Introduction: In an arranged marriage, the bride and groom are selected by a third party rather than by each other. It is especially common in royal families around the world. Today, arranged marriage is largely practiced in South Asia (India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka)Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia and East Asia to some extent.
As we Known, Arranged marriages are usually seen in Indian, Southeast Asian and African cultures, especially among royalty, and are usually set up by the parents or an older family member. The match could be selected by parents, a matchmaking agent, matrimonial site, or a trusted third party. In many communities, priests or religious leaders as well as relatives or family friends play a major role in matchmaking.
Process Of arrange marriage:
In an "introduction only" arranged marriage, the parents may only introduce their son or daughter to a potential spouse. From that point on, it is up to the children to manage the relationship and make a final choice. There is no set time period. This is common in the rural parts of South America and especially in India and Pakistan. The same also occurs in Japan. This type of arranged marriage is very common in Iran under the name of khastegari.
“An arranged marrige is a marrige that is arranged by someone other than those who are marrying”.
History In india:
1. History of Arranged Marriage in India “First comes marriage, then comes love.” Esthela Caito History 141 Arguello.
2. - The concept of arranged marriage in India has gone through many changes over time. Arranged marriages have been important in Indian culture since the fourth century. Arranged marriages are marriages that are set up by people other than those who are getting married. -The individuals who set up the marriage may be the parents, match making agents, matrimonial websites, or a trusted third party.
3. -Early in history, girls were married before they even reached puberty. -This was so that the girl would be married before she’d lose her virginity. Classical orthodox Hinduism came about in ca. 500 BC and this was a time when there was great emphasis on patriarchy and caste rules. Arranged marriages took place so that women would be placed under theauthority of a male. When a girl is a child, the father has authority over her, when the woman is married, the husband has authority over her, and when she is of old age, her sons have authority over her.
4. - In the modern period, the number of arranged marriages has lessened a little as social reforms have taken place & love marriages have become more popular. These days, Indian women can do well economically after independence of their parents. They are also well educated. A love marriage is one in which two people will decide to get married because they both have love and affection for one another and feel a sense of commitment and attraction. The partner does not have to be Indian in a love marriage.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. OVERVIEW
It seems that we have begun to loose ourselves in the new age of technology. I remember
when I was younger simple things like going to someone’s door to see if they were home,
calling a friend, and just being together in person. I find our society has lost its connection
with typical human interaction and has resorted to relying on technology. It seems as if todays
society is almost uncomfortable around each other and turns to their technology to keep them
comfortable. I am doing this presentation to show how technology has affected us and how it
is taking over the future generations. I find it interesting how much has changed in the past
decade and its almost scary to think where we will be in another ten years.
3. WHAT HAS CHANGED IN THE PAST 10 YEARS?
• Smartphones
• Wi-fi
• High Speed Internet
• Online Streaming
• Social Networking
• Flat-panel Tv’s & HDTV
• DVRs
• Bluetooth
• Online Media Services
• Online Gaming Services
• Flash Storage
4. ARE THESE CHANGES GOOD OR BAD?
• These changes can be good. They open up new opportunities for when people are
together. For example, we can now access almost any movie or song in a few clicks of the
mouse. We can also stay in touch with friends and family who may live in different places.
We also can have access and the ability to do much more than we ever have been able
to. The smartphone has shown to be essential to everyday life everywhere from keeping
us organized to not getting lost.
• However, these changes are not always good. I find a lot of these technologies take away
from the important things. We are so easily distracted now and it seems no one is ever
happy with what they are doing. People interact through text more than they speak in
person and people rely on some form of technology to create fun and amusement rather
than interacting with each other.
• Therefore, it is clear that although these advances do help us in many ways, they are
having a negative impact on us as a society and our interaction among each other.
7. CHARTS EXPLAINED
• The first chart shows that there is a decrease in the amount of time we spend offline
interacting with each other. This decrease is not only cause from being online but from all
technology. There has been a huge decline of human interaction and we are looking at
less and less each year. Focusing on the chart, it states that on average we are only
getting about 30 or so minutes a day of socializing with actual people.
• The second chart shows what we spend so much time doing. It is clear that social media
is a dominate force and people tend to go online on their mobile devices. All together it
shows that almost half of our days are spent focused around some form of technology.
8. HOW DOES TECHNOLOGY AFFECT MENTAL
HEALTH?
• Sleep
• Depression
• Addiction
• 24/7 Stress
• Fear Of Missing Out
• Isolation
• Incivility
• Insecurity
• Anxiety
9. HOW DOES TECHNOLOGY AFFECT PHYSICAL
HEALTH?
• Increase risk of cancer
• Brain tumors
• Autism
• Diabetes
• Chronic fatigue
• Hay fever
• Obesity
• Joint problems
• High blood pressure
• Poor posture
10. HOW DOES TECHNOLOGY AFFECT EDUCATION?
• Elevated Exasperation
• Deteriorated Patience
• Declining Writing Skills
• Lack of Physical Interactivity
12. CONFLICT THEORY
• In my opinion the issue of our society loosing ourselves to technology can be closely
related to the conflict theory. The conflict theory focuses on the social, political, or
material inequality of a social group. It pays attention to power differentials focusing on
class conflict . In terms of relating this to technology we are loosing touch of ourselves as
people. This means we are becoming less alike each other and surrounded by our own
social groups. We have lost the ability to communicate in a healthy was and resolve
issues between each other in a positive manner. Our classes have begun to clash and
people are consumed by the media. There is much more ego, and pressure to be of a
certain social class and this has all been influenced by technology. Technology has
allowed problems to get worse such as internet bullying and the ability to spread rumors
at the click of a button. Overall, technology has had a negative impact when associated
with the conflict theory and continues to get worse.
13. HOW CAN YOU AVOID TECHNOLOGY TAKING
OVER YOUR LIFE?
• Make deliberate choices about time
• Box out time to put technology away
• Remember: the most precious thing you can give someone is your presence
• Be mindful of your reasons for connecting to technology
• Get the most important things done and let go of the rest
• Make minimal commitments to yourself for a clear mental space
• Track your day’s presence in battery life
• Engage in stimulating conversations
• Reach out and touch
• Help someone in need
14. HOW CAN TECHNOLOGY HELP MAKE YOU MORE
PHYSICALLY ACTIVE?
• Active video games
• Activity trackers and pedometers
• Smartphone (used in a positive way)
• Web-based exercise programs and health sites
• Heart rate monitors
15. SOLUTION
• Overall, it seems that technology has completely taken over. People are socializing less
and less and becoming way less physically active. However, it does not have to be this
way. Technology can be wonderful and promote physical activity. It can also help with
socialization. People can meet new people and find interesting and unique things to do.
The important thing to remember is to limit yourself and use it in a beneficial way. It is
easy to be consumed by technology in todays society. It is everywhere and growing at a
rapid pace. It is important to remember to enjoy the little things and spend time outside.
This will allow society to keep mental and physical health at good levels and to have the
ability to enjoy technology when needed rather than relying on technology for everything.
