The nature/nurture conflict gives parents and child development specialists cause for much discussion. A child's temperament and, therefore, his actions are indeed greatly affected by his gene pool. How a parent is able to deal with that child and his actions will considerably affect the outcome of his upbringing.
It is widely accepted that a child whose needs are attended with reasonable speed will learn that the world is a dependable place. This trust in others gives him the base he needs to develop trust in the most important person in the world - himself.
Some parents believe they will spoil a child if they give too much attention to the child as an infant. They do not hold the child frequently, do not believe in rocking a child, and allow the child to cry for long periods of time instead of picking him/her up. Children cannot be spoiled by parents who provide loving care. But the parents must respect themselves enough, not to allow the child to become a tyrant over them.
Parents who are realistic and consistent in their expectations of their children will raise children with firm foundations for independence. Independence for their children should be the goal of parents. What do parents need to do for their children, to show they are realistic and consistent, and to pass along the love and respect children need?
Infants' needs must be met reasonably. If a child cries, he/she is signaling he/she is either hungry, wet, or uncomfortable. A parent must attend to an infant in a reasonable time to teach the infant trust. Infants need verbal and tactile stimulation from the parent. A parent's talking, cooing, or singing to an infant increases the child's learning process. Tactile stimulation of holding and rocking are necessary for the infant's emotional health and growth.
On the practical side, infants should live in clean, safe surroundings. This includes regular baths and diaper changes, being fed regularly as directed by a physician, and receiving regular checkups and immunizations.
What a parent does for and with an infant is expanded, as the child grows older and more independent.
The older child continues to need verbal and tactile stimulation. This can be provided in the way a parent shows affection and teaches his/her child about life. The older child needs consistent care, which includes encouragement to learn by being allowed to explore his/her surroundings. When the child is school age, the parent must express encouragement of learning by being interested in his/her school attendance and progress.
As a child becomes an adolescent the parenting task becomes different, yet the same. The older child is preparing to become independent of the parent. It is at this time that realistic and consistent parenting will pay off. A child raised with respect will generally respond with respect to his/her parent.
A parent should never relax in his/her role as a parent. A parent must always be on the job to provide nurture, love, acce

Energy performance of public lighting systems: analysis of possible scenarios...Germana Borzellieri
Dealing with the issue of energy saving in public lighting, it has been suggested the replacement of mercury vapor lamps with LED ones.
Firstly, needs have been identified: security, visual comfort, low costs and light pollution control involving motorists, pedestrians, maintenance, Public Administration and environment. Based on the requirements provided by regulations, regional laws and the so-called Plan of Light, designed and managed as public lighting tools, solution to the identified requirements has been given.
Secondly, lamps are compared and advantages and disadvantages are displayed. These are based on the parameters related to savings and quality: luminous efficiency, lifetime, color rendering index and color temperature. The study was conducted on mercury vapor lamps, sodium vapor at low and high pressure ones, metal halide, fluorescent lamps, induction and LED lamps. Moreover equipments responsible for light return and luminous flux distribution were further analyzed; supports were analyzed as well. At a later stage, the study has been expanded by looking into the entire plant control systems in order to optimize maintenance and costs.
That being so, it has been hypothesized an ideal path through which the mercury vapor lamps are replaced by LED lamps or high pressure sodium vapor ones, subjected to remote control. A scheme of installation of equipment has been suggested, considering height, spacing, protrusion on the path and its inclination. Photometric curves, consumption, compliance with the rules of existing equipment and installation and operating costs and return on investment have been evaluated as well. The energy and cost savings emerged are remarkable, especially for the LED lamps: their costs are initially high, nonetheless we can face this issue thanks the help provided by third parties such as ESCO and white certificates.

Children’s Television Is Dangerous Thus Should Be Controlled
Public awareness can be referred to as the imperative responsibility that community interest and acquaintance plays in building and maintaining sustainable societies. This is an activity that requires effective communication to be accomplished, for one has to understand the group of people in the society that the information is targeting. Technology is essential in the modern world as it has brought forth evolvement in all fields. However, there have been many cases globally concerning the same, where the same people concerned in bringing change to the universe are still the same ones against their craved creations, inventions and innovations. Debates concerning children and television (TV) have been viewed worldwide as a vice by some people who argue that it is passive and low-intellectual activity and hinders brain development. On the other hand, others disagree and claim it is a channel of learning for children and that the condemnation of television is a mere ritual without a real force. The main question is; who is right?
Watching television is imperative for everyone in the family, right from the youngest to the eldest both as a tremendous educator and entertainer. As much as we condemn the issue of watching TV in children, they shouldn’t be cut off from it, but we can put measures on the amount of time spent gazing at this electronic. For instance, children who are in their first two years, which is considered to as the critical period for brain development, should not be allowed to watch too much TV as it would stand in their societal and family development. In the case of preschoolers however, public TVs can be used to facilitate in alphabet learning. Visual lessons are considered the best in passing of information to people even in conference meetings which means that, it would also play an important role as the kid will develop both pronunciation and writing of the letters of the alphabet. For grade-schoolers however, it is a channel to educate them on wildlife on nature shows/programs (Paediatrics & Child Health: Impact of media on children and youth, 2016).
Basically, we learn positive behaviors in the same way that we learn the negative ones. In the same way that a child learns aggression from the programs they are exposed to in the media content, in the same way will they learn positive attitudes. These attitudes are developed from the content that the child is exposed to while watching the TV; either pro-social or antisocial content. Pro-social effects of media content will typically be feeble that the unsociable effects. This is because, pro-social effects habitually involve acting against a person’s self-interest compared to antisocial effects which engross acting our conduct. In an experiment conducted about the effect of media content on children, it was concluded that those who self-exposed themselves to pro-social content had sturdy positive effect as their c ...

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.
