At first, Harmony team members would like to
acknowledge NSS/NASA for conducting such a
wonderful competition. We appreciate this programme
of NASA since it provides an opportunity for young
minds all around the world to share their visions in a
sensible topic like preservation of eternal humanity.
Secondly, we would like to thank St. Xavier’s College,
and RevoScience Media Kathmandu for giving
necessary assistance, research materials, care and
support without which our project would be incomplete.
Our work would have been incomplete without the
continuous criticism and guidance of our teacher Mr.
Anish Rai and Mr. Laxman Dangol. They were present
during our after class sessions, and their hands above
our heads was a constant reminder of the support they
gave us.

At around 500 B.C., the great Greek Philosopher, mathematician and
physicist Pythagoras was pondering about the profound complications of
harmony. One day he happened to pass through a metal workshop where
people were working with a piece of metal upon an anvil. He noted that the
properties possessed by sound made by hefty hammers were altered from
those made by smaller ones and prudently studied the beats, harmonies and
discords from where he gained the paramount clue to the affiliation between
harmony and numbers. He then returned back to his home, worked tirelessly
on it , revealed the laws of harmony and united it with mathematics stating
the relation amongst tone of a plucked string and length in terms of numbers.
Thus, a bridge was preserved between music and science. Very inspired from
this discovery, Pythagoras made an attempt to unify all the theories of heaven
in terms of harmony with his “harmony of spheres” approach for the reason
that he knew the symmetry, beauty and well-being possessed by harmony.
He recognized that Harmony is an amusing amalgamation of elements
guiding always as a pre-requisite for good and well-being. Any object can
be demarcated beautiful only when its parts are in harmonious agreement.
The modern physicists are somehow, in some sense going back to
Pythagorean Philosophy with a new fundamental approach celebrated as
“String theory”. String theory is a mother of all theories gaining popularity
with a “Theory of everything” title. For now, it is the only potential device
to “read the mind of God”. String theory is a cosmic music. All those particles,
all those protons, electrons, neutrons, quarks, leptons and hadrons are nothing
but the different notes of vibration of these strings. String is extremely small,
at a size of Planck length, billion times smaller than any known sub-atomic
particles. Plucking the string, vibration would change and a sub-atomic
particle gets changed into another particle, As Micho Kaku says, “The
harmonics of the string are Laws of Physics”. Universe, thus, turns out to be
the huge sea of melody produced by strings. The beauty of string theory lies
in the fact that the theory can be linked to harmony and holds the finest

symmetry ever known to mankind known as “super symmetry”. We can
reproduce all Laws of Physics in footings of vibration of these strings.
HARMONY: A SPACE SETTLEMENT
Harmony turns out to be the title of our space settlement because of the
extensive philosophical, physical and natural significance possessed by the
word itself. Our entire space project is an engineering art work while
engineering enhances the beauty and symmetry of space settlement.
Significance of harmony in Physics is an inspiration for the members to tag
thespaceproject.Justasharmonyistheguidingprincipleofphysics,harmony
is the guiding principle of our space settlement too. Furthermore “harmony”
among the people is the ultimate key to preserve humanity. Our members
believe that “Harmony” space settlement will turn out to be the cornerstone
for eternal humanity.

PRINCIPLES OF
1. Each and every individual has equal right to be
the member of Harmony because it sounds immoral
leaving someone when earth is getting destroyed
during Malthusian Catastrophic events.
2.Everyindividualmustpossessequalopportunities,
rights and responsibilities after they are in Harmony.
No discrimination is enjoyed.
3. Harmony Space Settlement will also research on
other possible alternatives for space colonization, and
on returning back the greenery of Earth.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Harmony space settlement is a two-phase operation designed particularly
to preserve eternal humanity. Considering the very fact that home planet
is not free from cosmic danger and internal hazards, next step to deep space
becomes a promising solution. During a transition phase of human
population pattern from Log phase to Stationary phase in Sigmoid Curve
(a billion period of mass destruction), Harmony is operated.
OPERATION PHASE-I:
The principle issue raised by Harmony project is that Harmony space
settlement should be a next home for every human being because it sounds
too unnatural and immoral leaving someone when the earth is getting
destroyed. A modern economic revolution equating all communities will
be launched on earth. In order to bring global attention for this mega project,
8 construction sites will be located in different parts of the earth but the
launching site will be single.
The number 8 plays a significant role in Harmony. Firstly, the number 8
means “Law of Octaves” i.e. “Law of Harmony”. Secondly, the number 8
possesses a unique symmetry i.e. 4 on left and 4 on right. So, the number 8
has simply become a key to discover space and Harmony itself. Most of the
engineering allocation is based upon this number like there are 8 blocks in
single toroid named “Sa”, “Re”, “Ga”, “Ma”, “Pa”, “Da”, “Ni”, ”Saa”.

Energy is harvested from usual solar energy and Fusion reactor.
However, our team members have proposed some technologies for
antimatter harvest from Mother Nature, instead of direct antimatter
energy production artificially.
Since, Harmony is a future project, the physics and technologies of
Harmony must, more or less, match with future technologies since it
affects the daily life of habitants significantly. So, the technology of
Harmony is defined as per the demand of Era.
OPERATION PHASE-II:
Everything has a limitation and Harmony can never be an exception.
With increase in population, a time will come when the carrying capacity
of Harmony will be exceeded and we may have to leave it like we left our
earth. Respecting this unavoidable situation, we have proposed a next
alternative in deep space with the same principles of Harmony. This
operation-phase is an application of the theory of general relativity in
space-time fabric for the generation of pseudo gravity. With the application
of dense positive and dense negative energy in space-time, a gravitational
well can be created and a settlement can be constructed. This operation is
just our hypothesis, and may not be completely scientifically accurate.
OPERATION PHASE-III:
Though the harmony space project may become a successful project
providing a huge space for colony, habitants will never decrease their
responsibility towards Mother Earth. A large number of programs for
enhancing the status of earth will be launched and will once again be made
liveable. Then, a referendum will be held on whether to return back to
earth or not. If the 60% habitants desire to return back, operation-phase-III
will become a phase to return back.

Even though the size of
our Earth appears enormous
when we gaze standing on
the edge of the ocean or top
of mountain, Earth may not
be our home forever. We
already have seven billion
populations and every 4.8
days we add more 1 million.
With this increasing
population, we are receiving
more threats. If we carefully
evaluate the pattern of
human population, then we
can see out that human
population is increasing
more rapidly than ever recorded in history. This directly raises the question,
“Are we reaching our Earth’s carrying capacity?”
It is actually quite difficult to find out the carrying capacity of Earth.
Many studies indicate that our carrying capacity is dependent on different
constraints such as the maximum population that can be supported by
available food, water, fuel, habitable land, and so on. Therefore, conclusions
obtained from different researches on carrying capacity of Earth vary as
per the constraint. Most of the researches indicate that our carrying capacity
is between 8 billion and 16 billion.

SIGMOID CURVE AND ZERO GROWTH PHASE:
Human population growth follows S-shaped pattern called sigmoid
curve. With escalation in time, human population proliferates exponentially.
However due to the limited resources, nature takes a step to check population
as a result of which negative acceleration phase of human population
occurs. Finally stationary phase with equal birth rate and death rate occurs
when earth reaches its carrying capacity. Though this curve is based upon
Malthus theory which has suffered criticisms, it still has a lot of implications.
In an Essay on the Principle of Population, Malthus proposed the principle
that human populations grow exponentially while food production grows
at an arithmetic rate. Thus, while food output was likely to increase in a
series of twenty-five year intervals in the arithmetic progression, population
was capable of increasing in the geometric progression. If over-population
is unchecked, this unparalleled progression will give rise to a stage when
there will be no resources available for human population to thrive.
However, nature does not let this happen by checking over population with
what is known as Malthusian Catastrophic events.
In the paper “Existential Risk Prevention as Global Priority”, Bostrom

discusses about existential risks, risks that threaten the entire future of
humanity. Here humanity means Earth originating “intelligent life” which
by means of technological maturity attempts to thrive in Earth.

In this figure, X represents the category of existential risks that have been
crushing severity with pan-generational scope. These risks possess the
capacity to destroy entire human kind which un-fortunately is also one
form of catastrophic events. Two world wars, famine in British India, war
in Middle-East and South East Asia, 1931 China Floods, Black deaths in
Europe and so on represent some of the deadliest Malthusian Catastrophes
we have faced and signalize the possibility of existential risk that might
happen in Earth during Zero growth phase.

SOLUTION BY HARMONY:
Several studies indicate that we may reach our carrying capacity by
2170s. Therefore, in order to prevent humanity from possible catastrophic
events that will happen during the zero growth phase, space colonization
becomes one promising solution. It will become better for us to leave
our Earth than try to prevent it from degrading because, at that stage, we
will be in the condition when we can’t save ourselves, and it is almost
impossible to think about Earth.
Harmony Space Settlement with the promise to give home to every
human will be activated by 2170. Harmony Space Settlement has
following motives:
1.	 Harmony Space Settlement will be launched in order to save

humanity from Malthusian Catastrophic events, and will give a new home
for every human to thrive.
2.	 Harmony Space Settlement will be the home for every human
because it is too illogical to leave someone on earth when earth is getting
destroyed.
3.	 Harmony Space Settlement is the home of social equality with no
discrimination on any bases. Our only war will be against Malthusian
Catastrophic events. More discussions on generating social equality with
proposed economic revolutions are presented on economic section.
4.	 Scientists of Harmony Space Settlement will research on more
aspects of Space Colonization, and will also attempt to return back the
greenery of Earth.

4.1	ON GROUND PROCESS:
These all construction locations possess some common characteristics.
The climate of these areas is mild with very less rainfall and snowfall so
working hours gets extended. These areas are somehow farther from
residential cities. So, construction works doesn’t affect the residents. Water
and other mining resources are easily available in these areas.
4.1.1 CONSTRUCTION LOCATION:
Eight construction locations are fixed in eight different parts of the
world for bringing the global attention on this mega project. Firstly,
construction materials have to be managed before constructing the Harmony
Space Settlement. Each part for the project will be constructed on the Earth
and they will be transferred to space via cargo shuttles, which will be
assembled later on using Robots.
Harmony Space Settlement will take all the people from the earth, when
Earth is unfit for the settlement. Just as the earth is the common home,
Harmony should be the common home. Realizing this fact, 8 construction
locations are selected on the earth at least one on each continent along with
single launching Station.

These all construction locations possess some common characteristics.

4.1.2 LAUNCHING SITE:
Since launching from different parts of world may bring trafficking in
space and is difficult to handle, only single launching site is fixed in earth
at the location 27o

geostationary satellites, L2

satellites.
4.1.3 ROBOTS:
(1) HARMONY MULTIFUNCTION ROBOT (HMR)
HMR is the chief robot in
construction and loading purpose. It
has multifunctional uses. HMR can
fly, swim, move on ground, carry
loads, manipulate it, construct
accessories, and so on.
Features of HMR:
i.	 It has upper four limbs and
lower four limbs. Each limb has four
joints and four main fingers. Besides
four main fingers, there are other
several fingers that can work from
Nano level to macro level.
ii.	 To move on solid or ground, it
has six chain wheels, among which
two are fixed and rest are movable.
Movable chains are used for
climbing ladders.
iii.	Chain wheels are provided with adhesive like which helps to stick
on walls.
iv.	 The main engines, CPU, motors etc are on front part of main body
above the wheel whereas back part is hollow for storing constructing
materials.
v.	 It is provided with thrusters for moving in space. Thrusters are placed

between two wheel chains. While on ground, these thrusters hide inside
the main body.
vi.	 HMR acts as a submarine or ship when it has to work in deep water.
vii.	Lower limbs are provided with electromagnets for carrying heavy
magnetic material.
viii. HMR is programmed to understand certain human language, read
letters and obey the order.
(2) HARMONY
TRANSPORTATION ROBOT
(HTR)
It has certain features of HMR
like: four arms similar to HMR,
electromagnetic fingers and hollow
main body. It is specially
programmed to carry construction
materials from cargo shuttles to
HCR. It is in large numbers
compared to HMR. HTR is a
supplementary of HCR and is
provided with thrusters for
locomotion.
(3) HARMONY
CONSTRUCTION ROBOT
(HCR)
HCR is supplementary to HTR.
It is a fixed robot and remains in
a fixed place during construction.
It is mainly specialized for
construction sequence and
possesses no role during
transportation. Its finger is highly
developed than HTR and can
perform work from Nano level to
macro level.

4.2 ON TRAJECTRORY PROCESS:
4.2.1 CARGO SHUTTLE:
Cargo shuttles are used to
carry construction materials
from Earth and lunar surface to
construction point in space. It
has two main components:
Manned and Non-manned. 15
crew members work in manned
c o m p o n e n t s f o r
communication, repair and
emergency problem. This
component is pressurized and
provided with earthly
environment. Non-manned
components are specially used for carrying cargo loads and construction
materials. Cargo rocket is pyramidal in structure and is provided with
semicircular wings. Small thrusters are attached to these wings for changing
direction in space.
Changing direction:
Two main thrusters are attached in back position for speeding up in
forward direction, while there is only single thruster at front to decrease
the velocity. Cargo shuttles have docking facilities. Depending upon the
construction materials it carries, cargo shuttles are of two types:

4.2.2 HUMAN POPULATION SHUTTLE (HPS) :
HPS has a simple design like cargo shuttle, and is easier and simpler to
build. HPS is especially designed to provide safety protocols for taking
passengers from Earth to Harmony space settlement. It possess prism like
structure with semicircular wings provided with thruster for changing
direction. Propulsion system is provided with Ionic thruster which only
generates required impulse.
However, anionic system i.e. control, navigation and communication

system is pretty different from cargo shuttles since it is sensible. The flight
control system is guarded by 30 crew members who will frequently make
a smooth communication with Harmony, Earth’s launching station and
other supporting satellites. HPS possess a life supporting systems. It does
not carry extra loads than necessary in order to reduce mass.
Each HPS will carry 1000 people. These HPS after successfully landing
people to Harmony will again return back to Earth, and again re-continue
its task.
POWER FOR SHUTTLES:
Both shuttles are powered with solar energy of 60% efficiency. They
possess a pair of antennas for turning solar panels perpendicular to sunlight.
GUIDANCE:
Usually, both shuttles are guarded efficiently by communication centre
from Earth and Lagrangian point. However, considering the risk, a red
laser light is continuously emitted from Earth’s launching site to Harmony
settlement point. In case of system failure, these shuttles can follow this
track and reach their destination. This red laser light will possess high
intensity and is visible from distant region too.
4.2.3 COMMUNICATION FROM GEOSTATIONARY AND L4
POINTS:
For the communication purpose during the construction of space
settlement, geostationary satellites are used which are kept at geostationary
orbit of the earth. Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) is a circular orbit
35,786 km above the equator and following the direction of Earth’s rotation.
An object in such orbit possesses an orbital period equal to the earth’s
rotational period.
COMMUNICATION:
The GEO satellite of Harmony is fuelled by solar panel and is designed
in such a way that it acts as the intermediate between the ground Earth
Station, lunar station and L4
points. These GEO satellite doesn’t need to
rotate antenna. There is some significant communication latency of around
253ms but is encountered well. These satellites communicate with Cargo
Shuttles and HPR efficiently.

CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE:

A point of construction will be located on L2
point before the construction
starts. The place will be well equipped with sophisticated automated robots,
rockets and other communication as well as transportation system. The
construction of Harmony Space Settlement will be carried out with the
construction of fundamental skeletal design- The grand design of Harmony.
Three tori composed of rings having radius 8 kilometers shall be made
and assembled one over another. Then the structure would be welded to
obtain desired one. After the construction of the toroid is completed, the
interior construction shall be initiated. All these steps shall take different
time periods. These steps are mentioned below:
1. Prime axis:
The whole prime axis is divided into 32 parts
and 3 spheres. Each 8 part is combined to form
4 cylindrical structures, with 3 gaps in between
them. This step also includes the insertion of 3
(major section) spheres on this gap.
2. Connecting Ingots:
This step starts the completion of welding of joints
in step 1. This step includes connection of the spokes
to the 3 spheres of prime axis.

5)	 INTEGRATING SOLAR PANELS, THRUSTERS AND OTHERS:
This is the last step in which two thrusters are fitted to both ends of
prime axis. Mirrors are adjusted and two solar panels (movable) are fitted
on the two opposite sides of Beta Torus and the whole torus is covered by
standard layers (and solar panels which are fitted on the surface of torus
facing toward the central hub). The total external sequence is completed
in the course of 72years. After this, the internal construction which includes
management of transportation, communication, and other activities are
conducted.

5. ARTIFICIAL GRAVITY:
It is almost impossible to imagine a colony without gravity. Artificial
gravity hits our mind at first when we think about a space settlement project.
5.1	PRINCIPLE OF EQUIVALENCE :
It is not always true that gravitational force is created by a massive object
such as earth, and a feeling of gravitational force is experienced on earth
only. Principle of Equivalence state that gravitational force as experienced
locally while standing on a massive object is actually the same as
pseudo-force experienced by an observer in a non-inertial frame of
reference.

5.2 GRAVITON GENERATOR:
Graviton generator is a modern device, used in Harmony for generating
gravity whenever gravity deficiency occurs in hub. According to quantum
mechanics, gravitational force is mediated by a particle of spin 2 called
graviton which has no mass of its own. By the time 2170s Harmony team
members believe that there will be a complete understanding of physics
and gravitational force will be combined with other three forces like
Maxwell combined electricity with magnetism to form electromagnetism.
Just like electric force can be converted into magnetic force, other three
forces can also be converted into gravitational force. Based on this
theoretical background, graviton generator is designed to generate gravity
in Harmony. Graviton generator acts as a supplementary to rotational
gravity generator. Some of the experimental findings like superconductor
can generate artificial gravity are a clue for scientists working for graviton
generator in Harmony.
Each block of toroid is provided with two graviton generator. Whenever,
there occurs an imbalance in artificial gravity achieved by rotational
techniques, graviton generator comes in operation and generates required

HULL COMPOSITION AND RADIATION SHIELD
Wall of Harmony consists of Graphene 3 layers, carbon nanofibres
assorted with silica layer and additional supplementary constituents as a
strengthening medium.
Graphene first layer is a 7m thick layer facing towards space. A large
number of carbon nanotubes with diameter of about 2 cm are looped in
this layer. Carbon nanotubes in one hand act as a high resisting (heat
tension) material and in other hand create an electromagnetic field on
passing current which can be used for deflecting charged particles in space
by Lorentz force. Additionally, carbon nanotubes possess some
superconducting properties which greatly enhance the process. Next to
graphene first layer lies graphene second layer of thickness about 5m.
These two graphene layers are connected with a bridge of carbon nanotubes
with thickness 0.6m which being superconductor can be used for
communication purpose maximizing efficiency. Thus, this second carbon
nanotube layer helps in communication and strengthening the wall of hub.
The innermost layer consists of two insulating layers: first vacuum layer
and second silicon aerogel layer.

7.2 RADIATION SHIELD
One of the dangerous challenges in Harmony is radiation shielding. Solar
windcontinuouslyemittedfromsuninadditiontolargenumberofhighenergy
particle coming from deep space carries alpha particles and protons which can
breakupDNAcausingcancer.So,Harmonyhastwomechanismsforradiation
shielding.

7.7 THRUSTERS:
There are two thrusters attached on upper and lower ends of prime axis
which assists in relocation of entire settlement and a number of mini
thrusters attached tangentially on peripheral surface of toroid and
perpendicularly on secondary supporting ingots for providing rotational
effect on toroid.

NUCLEAR PULSE PROPULSION THRUSTER (NPPT)
An account of nuclear power in thrusters is a satisfying choice because
of its vast energy density gain with compared to conventional chemical
energy fuelling system. Hydrogen and oxygen on combustion yields 135
MJ/kg only whereas nuclear fission of U-235 crops 8×107
MJ/kg.
NPPT uses a spacecraft propulsion thruster generating huge thrust. The
concept is to multiply a shock wave against a large pusher plate attached
to Harmony with primary and secondary shock absorber with a small
directional nuclear explosion. Polyethylene is used as a propellant material
since it couples well with the energy created from the nuclear explosions
absorbing neutrons. Furthermore aforementioned polyethylene ruptures
into carbon and hydrogen which have low molecular weight thus gaining
high speed while exhaust. These whole mechanisms produce high exhaust
velocity giving high thrust. These effective specific impulses could be so

NPPT is unique from other in a sense that:
1) The energy from nuclear explosion is directly delivered to propellant
without transforming into electricity.
2) Propellant itself is solid and doesn’t necessitate tankage mass.
3) Propellant is continuously stepped up to high exhaust velocity by
prompt heating.
4) NPPT confines thermal heat load spaceship destruction and radiation

IONIC THRUSTER:
There are two Ionic thrusters attached to NPPT at 450 which provide
stability to Harmony Thruster system. In this electric propulsion technique
thrust is generated by accelerating ions.
Hall Effect Thrusters (HET) is used in Harmony thrusters considering
its wide range of advantages. Here, ions are accelerated between negatively
charged plasma (cathode) and anode. Xenon gas which is used as a
propellant is imported close to anode and gets ionized which later on is
accelerated towards cathode. Finally, they leave the thrusters with high
exhaust velocity.

STABILITY OF HARMONY THRUSTER
Harmony thruster’s scores high stability due to the appropriate
combination of HET and NPPT. NPPT on operation generates high impulse
energy while two HET on operation provides a stable path for Harmony’s
motion. Direction of settlement can be shifted by proper synchronization
of NPPT and HET operation. Translational thrusters are made dynamic to
achieve required transitional motion however rotational thruster is static.
THRUSTER SECTION
TRANSLATIONAL THRUSTER:
Two thrusters used for translation motion shall be attached with the two
ends of prime axis. NPPT has a larger radius than that of HET. The radius

ROTATIONAL THRUSTER (RT):
16 thrusters with NPPT radius 600m and HET radius 90m are connected
on exterior surface of each toroid. Each block of a toroid contains two RT.
These two thrusters are located at a point of one third of total length of
block providing stability. Two mini thrusters are connected with minor
supporting ingots which assist in rotation of toroid.

the power absorbed is influenced by the efficiency factor of solar panels.

Theoretical derivation on Thermophotovoltaic cells shows that efficiency
rating of these solar cells to be more than 60%. So we members decided
to use TPVC as a solar energy cells in Harmony.
8.3 ANTIMATTER ENERGY PRODUCTION:
The latest exploration has specified the prospectus that the antimatter
could be the effective and operative source of energy in very close future.
Pair annihilation of matter and antimatter can yield energy 1000 times
efficiently than nuclear reactors as 100% mass is converted into energy.
The use of this energy in Harmony can be done in Thruster for propelling
the harmony, for electric power generation, as fuel in spaceship and rocket
for external transportation and possibly in internal transportation too.
SOURCES OF ANTIMATTER:
Artificially, antimatter can be produced in very small quantities which
is insufficient for the practical use. However antimatter exists naturally at

so on. So, the extraction of this naturally occurring antimatter could fuel
Harmony for reasonable period of time. Some of the harvesting techniques

Net harvestor works like fishing net. It consists of concentric spheres
made up of lattice wire network. These spheres would be positively
charged. Any protons present around the Net Harvestor will be repelled
and antiproton will be attracted to the sphere. When the antiproton enters
the first sphere, it will gradually decelerate and speed halts on reaching

the magnetic bottle gets compressed which further confines the antiparticle
to a smaller region. With the help of HMR, these antiparticles are collected,
brought back to ACPC for research and energy generation for Harmony.
8.4 Energy Storage Grid
The energy produced from nuclear plant is collected in the energy storage
grid which consists of transformer for regulating voltage. The required
amount of energy is transported to habitat colony and industry. Moreover,
large number of super capacitor placed in series stores the surplus energy
and releases whenever needed.
Energy Distribution
Total area of solar panel in Harmony is 17,280 km2
, but in course of
rotation, only 52% of solar panel is exposed to the sunlight. Considering
60% efficient solar panel, the total useful solar energy generated is around
7.3×106
MW. This energy is 60% of the total energy produced. The rest
energy is obtained from Tokamak fusion reactor and equals 4.8×106
MW.
However, only 80% of the energy produced is distributed to the habitat
and rest 20% energy is stored in the super capacitor for the jeopardy
condition. Energy produced from antimatter is not included in this scheme

Because our space settlement is targeted for the future, new technological
developments in the field of medicine will also be developed. So some
currently developing technologies will be upgraded and used in Harmony.
Each member of Harmony will be implanted with small nano-robots
that flow in the blood stream without causing any external and internal
damages to the body. Everyday these nanobots will perform a full body
check to monitor the heart rate, pressure, sugar levels, and all the hormonal
activities of the body. Any imbalance would be quickly reported to the
resident via A-Check (Illustrated later) as well as the doctor in the hospital.
These nanobots would also see through the damaged cells and stop mutation
so as to prevent cancer.
Through the reports, the doctor will prescribe medicines to the resident
upon further examination and observation. Any surgery to be performed
will be conducted through tissue culture through the hands of trained
surgeons. Medicines and vaccines would be produced through
bio-technological processes
Everyone will be routinely taught about techniques of first aid so that
we are prepared for emergency situations.
When a new disease sprouts, the doctors and physicians would
immediately address the disease, study them and prepare the necessary
vaccines and anti-biotics.
New technologically advanced methods of medicine and surgery would
equip the hospitals. The patients would have to face less pain, less hospital
stay and with a fast recovery. Gene Therapy would ease the body to fight
against diseases as the genes would be re-engineered and introduced in
the body to fight against diseases.

College, London would be used in surgery. The iknife uses electric current
to heat up tissues and make insicions, without losing too much blood and
can identify whether the tissue is malignant or not.

9.2 HANDICAP ASSISTANCE:
For the assistance of the handicapped people, special type of limbs called
Bionic limbs used. They are controlled by the nervous system of the human
beings. The small connecting wires from the limbs is connected to the
brain in such a way that the motor impulse from the brain reaches the limbs,
and the sensory impulse from the limbs reach the brain (central nervous
system).
9.3 SPACE SUIT: Spacesuit is a garment worn to keep a human alive
in the harsh environment of outer space, vacuum and temperature extremes.

In case the artificial gravity maintained in Harmony suffers fluctuation,
the first disorder habitants may suffer is SAS. Current research in deep
space flight shows that half of the space travelers during the micro gravity
exposure suffer from this problem. The symptoms of SAS includes: Nausea,
Vomiting, Lethargy, visual illusion and lack of stability. These effects are
produced as a result of adaptation in micro g effects. Since, vomiting in
Harmony is fatal, whenever Habitants suffer from this syndrome. They are
suggested to vomit in special space polythenes that collect the vomit matter.

effect in Harmony, habitants are always encouraged to do exercise daily
and increase the amount of Calcium and Vitamin D in diet. In case the
effect turns out to be fatal, several drugs are prescribed and Hormone
therapy, selective estrogen receptor modulators, teriparatide is assigned.
3.	 Balance disorder:
Balance disorder in Habitants is a serious problem that they have to
counterpart while exposing to micro g. This disorder results body imbalance
and visual distractions. These problems can be solved by exercise.

A game alike football will be played at prime axis where there is 0-gravity
in Harmony space settlement. It is an outdoor game played in 3 dimensions.
Playing field: Unlike traditional football which is played in a rectangular
ground, it will be played in cubic box in a 0 gravity condition. It will get
four goal posts on four corners of the cube. A stadium will be constructed
surrounding the play box where audiences will enjoy the match. The whole
cubical box will be constructed by a strong glass for the visibility of the
audience. The audiences can see inside the cubic box whereas the players
cannot see outside the glass.

Playing suits: Each player is provided with a special suit like a suit that
Iron man wears. It is a metallic suit with four thrusters two on each leg
(foot) and two on each hand (palm). Players can go up, down, right and
left with the help of the thrusters.

10.1 FOOD PRODUCTION:
Food is a basic element for survival which affords the energy to work
and conduct all the day to day actions. At Harmony, fresh and nutritious
food is produced and supplied to the residents. Both plants and livestock
are organized and cultivated in harmony, separately and scientifically.
On average, an adult requires 2500 kilo calories/day or 10500 kilo joules/
day. The rate of energy use is 121watts/second. The population of Harmony
is approximately 200,000,000. Thus on average day we require 5X1011
kilo calories/day. The daily diet will consist of bread, potatoes fruits,
vegetables, dairy products, oil, meat, milk, fish etc. The balanced diet will
contain 15% proteins, 25% lipids and 60% carbohydrates.
Smoking will be strictly prohibited and the use of drugs and intoxicants
is strictly prohibited; and will be dealt severely by the law of Harmony.
Food will be stored in the Controlling store of the torus. The products from
the agricultural plates will be stored in the controlling store of each torus.
The controlling store will distribute the food supplies to the central stores
in each compartment. This central store will distribute the supplies to
numerous branch stores in each compartment. The sub-stores will manage
the demands of the food requirement.
NUTRITION:
Nutrients are those chemicals required for the body for the day to day
activities. The nutrients are basically of 2 types:
•	Macro nutrients: Carbohydrates, Fats, Protein, Water(6-8 ltr)
•	Micro nutrients: Minerals like Ca, Cl, Mg, P, K, Na, Co, I; Vitamins
Macro nutrients are obtained from the food. Minerals are also obtained
from the nutritional food provided. Water soluble vitamins and minerals
are obtained from the drinking water supplied to the houses. Water and
water soluble vitamins are obtained (80%) form food, whereas other
nutrients and 20% water should be included in the diet.
Here at Harmony, the balanced diet will contain the nutrients in sufficient
quantity, so as to maintain proper balance of the body. Moreover, the water
treatment house will provide specialized water added with calculated
nutrients to all the people for drinking.
Food production and animal husbandry will be carried out in the
agricultural plate that joins the torus. In each of the 8 docks, there are 8
chambers with 3 sub-compartments each divided into two sections: the
right and the left section. The 3 sub compartments are production house,
harvest house and manure house. These sub compartments are routinely

rotated. The manure house starts the manure production and prepares for
the next planting; the harvest house harvests the production; and the
production house has growing and developing plants.
The production in the left side of the plate will be distributed to the alpha
torus and gamma torus accordingly, and the production in the right side
will be supplied the beta torus. As the beta torus receives more food supply,
it would be responsible for storing and packaging the food, and distributing
it to the industries and stores.
10.2 TECHNIQUES:
Only high quality seeds produced by genetic engineering produced
within the Harmony will be used for cultivation. The quality seeds will be
fast growing, have high productivity, high nutrient content and will be
disease resistant. As people cannot survive only on capsules and packed
food, fresh produces of potatoes, peas, algae, mushrooms, green salads,
maize, wheat will be available to the residents in the Harmony Markets.
The livestock would also only be of selected breeds to improve the meat

The techniques for food production are:
10.2.1 HYDROPONICS:
Here in this technique, use of soil is completely absent. Plants are grown
in medium like gravel, clay, cotton and when they are up to a certain height;
they are introduced in glass jars or plastic tanks. Holes are cut in the tank
and the plants are placed there. The cut provides support and helps in
fixation. During different times of the day, water containing minerals is
sprayed in to the naked exposed roots. The water contains the macro
nutrients and micro nutrients like S, P, K, N, Ca, Mg, Na etc. in required
amount.

10.2.2 AEROPONICS:
In this technique, very little soil is used. Plants are grown in the soil and
they are transplanted in specially built plastic jars or glass containers; after
reaching certain level of maturation. The soil is only used for supporting
the plant. The container has two layers, the first layer contains the soil;
and the second layer beneath contains water. In the second layer, water
with required nutrients is circulated daily.
These techniques are needed in Harmony as many plants can be grown
at a single time by layering them one above the other. Plants of different
varieties can be grown at a time. The temperature, humidity are maintained
inside the chambers where the plants are to be grown with the help of
specialised devices and scientific techniques.
10.3 HARVEST:
Harvesting is done by the people themselves. When the plants start to
blossom and fruit, they are handpicked and harvested by people, and is
sent to the respective torus immediately for supply and preservation. The
torus is responsible to decide the quantity of supply to be packaged and
delivered, depending upon the need.
10.4 MANURE:
The plant after harvest will be of no use. Some plants may bear fruits

all year round. The plants that have finished their fruiting season are
collected and either sent as livestock food, or they are prepared as manure.
It is either vermin composted or bacterially decomposed depending upon
the type of plant and the duration given.
10.5 WATER:
Water for irrigation and spraying are obtained from the water management
facility. The water from house hold kitchens and bathrooms, after being
treated in the water purification facility, can be utilized for agriculture.
Also, the agriculture chambers will have a cooling system in the ceiling.
The water transpired by the plants will be re-collected and again used for
agriculture. This technique would be similar to rain water harvesting
technique; instead it will have a cooling mechanism.
10.6 LIVESTOCK:
Animal rearing is done in of the chambers of the dock that connects the
torus. Only genetically engineered and improved breeds of animals would
be raised in Harmony using biotechnology, gene therapy and selective
breeding.
10.6.1 CATTLE REARING:
Cattles like cows,
buffaloes, goat, sheep,

special breeds of cows are reared like New Jersey, Murrah, Holstein etc.
Murrah cows are the best varieties that grow up to the size, are highly
disease resistant and give 20-25 litres of the milk per day. Thus they should
be nurtured daily to obtain required milk.
Other animals like goat, sheep and pig are raised together. They are not
only provided with the nutritious pastures, but also with nutritious grains.
When they reach the matured size, they will be sent to the slaughter house.
10.6.2 POULTRY FARMING:
SpecialbreedsofchickenlikelayersandBroilerswillberaisedinHarmony.
Goose and chicken breeds like Plymouth Rock Chicken, Leghorn Chicken,
Cochin Chicken will be reared. Layers would give about 2-3 eggs per day
under incubation at temperature of 99-99.5 0F.
Thus, incubators will be provided for poultry farming where temperature
and heat is maintained to have maximum production of eggs. When layers
are matured and lose their egg production capacity, then they will be sent to
the slaughter house. Regularly, few eggs are left in the incubators to hatch
out into chickens. Broiler chickens and goose will be reared and sent to the
slaughter house after maturation. The poultry raised will be provided with
grains and proteins for their proper development. Regular checkups for the
outbreak of diseases like bird flu will be maintained.

10.7 FISHERY:
Oneoftheagriculturalplatesintheconnectingspokeisusedforpisciculture.
Different species of fish like Trout, Carp, Salmon, and Catfish are reared in
Harmony to fulfill the protein diet requirement. The rearing of fish is done
in special metal alloy or glass tanks. The dimension of the tanks would be
normally 5m width, 2m breadth and 2m deep. It may also depend upon the
type of fish species.
The species of fish are to be separately reared as they all have different
nutritional need, maturation time. Some species of catfish do not need protein
in their diet whereas salmon requires protein in their diet. Thus, it would be
easier to raise the fishes in different cages, rather than having a common
cage.
The eggs are incubated after hatching and the small fishes are introduced
into the cages. The cages are well supplied with sunlight, maintained at an
optimum temperature, has well oxygenated water and has proper circulation
of water.
Aquatic plants such as spirogyra, spirulina, hydrilla are also grown to
provide the fishes with vegetative nutrition. Special fishes need foods
enriched with nutrients depending upon the species of fish. Salmon is
provided with protein in its diet, whereas Carp and Trout are provided with
higher vegetative nutrition.
Circulation of water is necessary so at to cease stagnant water. Stagnant
water favours the development of bacteria which causes diseases. Use of
propellers and motors help to circulate the water, and prevents from being
stagnant. When the fishes reach the optimum weight and size, the water is
aerated with carbon dioxide. This makes the fish unconscious and they rise
up. Their gills are then cut and harvesting is carried out. This is the most
humane way to harvest the fishes. Other methods include electrical harvest
and lowering temperature of water to a very low temperature.
After harvest is complete, the cages are disinfected and the water is sent
for treatment. Fresh water is kept in the tanks and the fishes are again
introduced. Before harvesting and during the breeding season, the female
fishes are checked for eggs. The eggs are collected and incubated for next
season.
10.8 ECOSYSTEM:
10.8.1 PRODUCER:
Producers are the group of organisms which use the abiotic factors like

water,light,etctoproduceglucosethroughtheprocessofthephotosynthesis.
It includes cyanobacteria, phytoplanktons, algae, bryophytes and
pteridophytes.
Considering the factors such as space, availability of soil, water and
temperature; we generally prefer small, stress resistive and economically
productive plants.
10.8.2 CONSUMER:
Based on the size of consumer, they are categorized into two types:
Micro consumer and Macro consumer. Saprophytes or decomposers are
categorized under micro consumers, and large consumers such as secondary
and tertiary are categorized under macro consumer. We will take the macro
consumers for the purpose of the food (animal products) only. Only selected
breeds would be taken from Earth, and they would be inter-breeded and
genetically modified for increased productivity. Furthermore, new
organisms would be produced through cloning and genetic engineering.
10.8.3 DECOMPOSER
Decomposers or micro consumers are the most important biotic factors
in Harmony. Bacteria, fungi and some other saprophytic algae in Harmony
would be responsible for decomposition of the wastes, manure production
and cycling of the nutrients in the ecosystem.
10.8.4 MAN AS A MAJOR CONSUMER:
Transfer of the energy in Harmony is linear, non-cyclic, open and
unidirectional. The biological sequence of energy is through the Producers,
Consumers and Decomposers. The shorter the food chain, greater will be
the energy transfer. So, heavy consumers would not be introduced in
Harmony. Human beings would be the major consumer.
Maximum energy is lost during the transfer of energy from one tropic
level to another. According to Lindeman’s 10% energy rule (2nd law of
thermodynamics), during the transfer of energy from one tropic level to
another, only 10% energy is transferred and rest 90% is lost in the form of
metabolic energy or respiration. So if the food chain is short, final consumers
will get large amount of energy. Considering this fact, only human beings
are given the role of major consumers in Harmony.

Each and every individuals of Harmony will be provided with Harmony
tablet which acts as an Identity card of habitants. Size of Harmony tablet will
be 14 centimeters in height, 7 centimeters in breadth and 0.5 centimetres in
width. Monetary activities, criminal and health records will be regulated
through this tablet. One should show his Harmony tablet while entering any
government offices and other high risk regions. Minor criminal records,
violation of local law, minor accidents, and minor health hazards to major
activitieswillberecordedautomaticallyinHarmonytablet.Insinglesentence,
Harmony tablet is the bio data of Harmonians.
11.1.2 REALITY GLASS:
Reality glass formulates a Bluetooth connection with the phone and
presents it in a 3D appearance in front of our eyes. One can carry out video
calls, watch 3D movies and collect additional indispensable information
in front of the eyes.
We can capture, snap and share pictures, read text messages and respond
to them, and enjoy the digital 3D world in front of our eyes. This reality
glass is smart in a sense that it can identify the individual and give his bio

11.1.3 SMART EQUIPMENTS:
All equipment in Harmony are based on smart technology. Smart phones,
smart watch, smart fridges, smart televisions and many such smart
equipments rule the harmony technology. Smart television provides
traditional broadcast channels, social medias, catch up services, video on
demand, election, gaming, multimedia, electronic programme guides and
other facilities. Smart watch provides the information about the body
temperature and pressure. In addition to these, one can check the weather,
read messages, e-mail and enjoy a whole bunch of other facilities through
this smart watch. Almost every window pane of residential houses will
have smart glasses. These glasses repair themselves and clean by vibration
techniques. Habitants can give the order like “OPEN” or “CLOSE” to this
smart glass, and the action would be carried out accordingly. All these
smart equipments are connected with each other via Bluetooth or wireless,
and can be controlled through a harmony tablet possessed by each
Harmonian.

After installing A-check in smart phones, habitants can check their
health conditions on 25 different subjects. This software is bio-sense.
Residents should click the picture of their urine, stool, mucus, blood,
sperm, body fluids and other body parts to check the change in chemical
compositions and colour. Thus, different diseases can be identified through
the use of these reports and from the information provided by the nano-bots
in the human body.
R-app:
Routine application (R-app) when once installed in smart phones, stores
the time table and routine of habitants. User can mark the important tasks,
and smart phone will vibrate on the fixed time. This application will also
provide necessary tips according to the time table. For example: It calculates
the concentration of caffeine in the coffee and in the blood, and gives the
routine for drinking coffee.

illusion. With the change in the direction of sun, HM automatically changes
its direction.
DAY NIGHT CYCLE:
Day night cycle in Harmony is maintained by the shutter placed at each LH.
In harmony, there are 8 days in one week with 2 holidays at the interval of 4
days. Length of day night cycle is usual 24 hours. But the length of day is
kept to be 16 hours while the length of night is 8 hours. This day night cycle
increases the working hours of Harmonians.
11.3 CLIMATE:
Climate is an important factor to be managed in harmony. The climate in
the central hub, the torroid and the agriculture plate will be different. In the
central hub, there is zero gravity non pressurized regions and climate is not
necessarily an important matter to be managed there.
In case of torroid where people live, climate will be maintained properly.
Maintenance of climate as like of Earth won’t be fruitful or efficient in the
harmony. A constant temperature of 20-22 degree Celsius will be kept in the
torroid with the perfect ventilation system so that overall condition of the

In case of agriculture plate a separate type of climate will be maintained.

In harmony, various types of parks will be made which will be important
from tourism as well as entertainment or recreation point of view.
1. Green parks: Green parks will be made in the toroids, in some places near
the rivers and lakes so that the beauty of park will grow. People can visit these
green parks during morning or evening walks.
2. Cultural Park: Cultural Parks will also be made in the toroid. Actually,
this type of park will be left under the control of inhabitants because they will
show their cultural identity such as dresses, dance, song, monuments, etc.
Besidesthese,variousculturalaspectsliketemples,church,mosque,Gumbas,
etc will be also included in the cultural park.
3. Theme park: It is an amusement park with a unifying setting or idea.
Large number of theme parks will be made or constructed in Harmony.
Amusement parks, water parks, roller coasters, etc will be constructed in
different blocks and toroid of Harmony which will amuse children, people
and visitors.

HARMONY SPACE SETTLEMENT|NEPAL |2015 | 9 MUSIC IN SPACE HSS At around 500 B.C., the great Greek Philosopher, mathematician and physicist Pythagoras was pondering about the profound complications of harmony. One day he happened to pass through a metal workshop where people were working with a piece of metal upon an anvil. He noted that the properties possessed by sound made by hefty hammers were altered from those made by smaller ones and prudently studied the beats, harmonies and discords from where he gained the paramount clue to the affiliation between harmony and numbers. He then returned back to his home, worked tirelessly on it , revealed the laws of harmony and united it with mathematics stating the relation amongst tone of a plucked string and length in terms of numbers. Thus, a bridge was preserved between music and science. Very inspired from this discovery, Pythagoras made an attempt to unify all the theories of heaven in terms of harmony with his “harmony of spheres” approach for the reason that he knew the symmetry, beauty and well-being possessed by harmony. He recognized that Harmony is an amusing amalgamation of elements guiding always as a pre-requisite for good and well-being. Any object can be demarcated beautiful only when its parts are in harmonious agreement. The modern physicists are somehow, in some sense going back to Pythagorean Philosophy with a new fundamental approach celebrated as “String theory”. String theory is a mother of all theories gaining popularity with a “Theory of everything” title. For now, it is the only potential device to “read the mind of God”. String theory is a cosmic music. All those particles, all those protons, electrons, neutrons, quarks, leptons and hadrons are nothing but the different notes of vibration of these strings. String is extremely small, at a size of Planck length, billion times smaller than any known sub-atomic particles. Plucking the string, vibration would change and a sub-atomic particle gets changed into another particle, As Micho Kaku says, “The harmonics of the string are Laws of Physics”. Universe, thus, turns out to be the huge sea of melody produced by strings. The beauty of string theory lies in the fact that the theory can be linked to harmony and holds the finest INTRODUCTION WHY HARMONY?

We can reproduce all Laws of Physics in footings of vibration of these strings. HARMONY: A SPACE SETTLEMENT Harmony turns out to be the title of our space settlement because of the extensive philosophical, physical and natural significance possessed by the word itself. Our entire space project is an engineering art work while engineering enhances the beauty and symmetry of space settlement. Significance of harmony in Physics is an inspiration for the members to tag thespaceproject.Justasharmonyistheguidingprincipleofphysics,harmony is the guiding principle of our space settlement too. Furthermore “harmony” among the people is the ultimate key to preserve humanity. Our members believe that “Harmony” space settlement will turn out to be the cornerstone for eternal humanity.

OPERATION PHASE-I: The principle issue raised by Harmony project is that Harmony space settlement should be a next home for every human being because it sounds too unnatural and immoral leaving someone when the earth is getting destroyed. A modern economic revolution equating all communities will be launched on earth. In order to bring global attention for this mega project, 8 construction sites will be located in different parts of the earth but the launching site will be single. The number 8 plays a significant role in Harmony. Firstly, the number 8 means “Law of Octaves” i.e. “Law of Harmony”. Secondly, the number 8 possesses a unique symmetry i.e. 4 on left and 4 on right. So, the number 8 has simply become a key to discover space and Harmony itself. Most of the engineering allocation is based upon this number like there are 8 blocks in single toroid named “Sa”, “Re”, “Ga”, “Ma”, “Pa”, “Da”, “Ni”, ”Saa”.

However, our team members have proposed some technologies for antimatter harvest from Mother Nature, instead of direct antimatter energy production artificially. Since, Harmony is a future project, the physics and technologies of Harmony must, more or less, match with future technologies since it affects the daily life of habitants significantly. So, the technology of Harmony is defined as per the demand of Era. OPERATION PHASE-II: Everything has a limitation and Harmony can never be an exception. With increase in population, a time will come when the carrying capacity of Harmony will be exceeded and we may have to leave it like we left our earth. Respecting this unavoidable situation, we have proposed a next alternative in deep space with the same principles of Harmony. This operation-phase is an application of the theory of general relativity in space-time fabric for the generation of pseudo gravity. With the application of dense positive and dense negative energy in space-time, a gravitational well can be created and a settlement can be constructed. This operation is just our hypothesis, and may not be completely scientifically accurate. OPERATION PHASE-III: Though the harmony space project may become a successful project providing a huge space for colony, habitants will never decrease their responsibility towards Mother Earth. A large number of programs for enhancing the status of earth will be launched and will once again be made liveable. Then, a referendum will be held on whether to return back to earth or not. If the 60% habitants desire to return back, operation-phase-III will become a phase to return back.

Hawking Even though the size of our Earth appears enormous when we gaze standing on the edge of the ocean or top of mountain, Earth may not be our home forever. We already have seven billion populations and every 4.8 days we add more 1 million. With this increasing population, we are receiving more threats. If we carefully evaluate the pattern of human population, then we can see out that human population is increasing more rapidly than ever recorded in history. This directly raises the question, “Are we reaching our Earth’s carrying capacity?” It is actually quite difficult to find out the carrying capacity of Earth. Many studies indicate that our carrying capacity is dependent on different constraints such as the maximum population that can be supported by available food, water, fuel, habitable land, and so on. Therefore, conclusions obtained from different researches on carrying capacity of Earth vary as per the constraint. Most of the researches indicate that our carrying capacity is between 8 billion and 16 billion.

With escalation in time, human population proliferates exponentially. However due to the limited resources, nature takes a step to check population as a result of which negative acceleration phase of human population occurs. Finally stationary phase with equal birth rate and death rate occurs when earth reaches its carrying capacity. Though this curve is based upon Malthus theory which has suffered criticisms, it still has a lot of implications. In an Essay on the Principle of Population, Malthus proposed the principle that human populations grow exponentially while food production grows at an arithmetic rate. Thus, while food output was likely to increase in a series of twenty-five year intervals in the arithmetic progression, population was capable of increasing in the geometric progression. If over-population is unchecked, this unparalleled progression will give rise to a stage when there will be no resources available for human population to thrive. Water and other mining resources are easily available in these areas. 4.1.2 LAUNCHING SITE: Since launching from different parts of world may bring trafficking in space and is difficult to handle, only single launching site is fixed in earth at the location 27o 39’N 81o 30’W.This location is near to water resources and is far from residential region. This station communicates with geostationary satellites, L2 satellites, and L4 satellites. 4.1.3 ROBOTS: (1) HARMONY MULTIFUNCTION ROBOT (HMR) HMR is the chief robot in construction and loading purpose. It has multifunctional uses. HMR can fly, swim, move on ground, carry loads, manipulate it, construct accessories, and so on. Features of HMR: i. It has upper four limbs and lower four limbs. Each limb has four joints and four main fingers. Besides four main fingers, there are other several fingers that can work from Nano level to macro level. ii. To move on solid or ground, it has six chain wheels, among which two are fixed and rest are movable. Movable chains are used for climbing ladders. iii. Chain wheels are provided with adhesive like which helps to stick on walls. iv. The main engines, CPU, motors etc are on front part of main body above the wheel whereas back part is hollow for storing constructing materials. v. It is provided with thrusters for moving in space. HMR is programmed to understand certain human language, read letters and obey the order. (2) HARMONY TRANSPORTATION ROBOT (HTR) It has certain features of HMR like: four arms similar to HMR, electromagnetic fingers and hollow main body. It is specially programmed to carry construction materials from cargo shuttles to HCR. It is in large numbers compared to HMR. HTR is a supplementary of HCR and is provided with thrusters for locomotion. (3) HARMONY CONSTRUCTION ROBOT (HCR) HCR is supplementary to HTR. It is a fixed robot and remains in a fixed place during construction. It is mainly specialized for construction sequence and possesses no role during transportation. Its finger is highly developed than HTR and can perform work from Nano level to macro level.

It has two main components: Manned and Non-manned. 15 crew members work in manned c o m p o n e n t s f o r communication, repair and emergency problem. This component is pressurized and provided with earthly environment. Non-manned components are specially used for carrying cargo loads and construction materials. Cargo rocket is pyramidal in structure and is provided with semicircular wings. Small thrusters are attached to these wings for changing direction in space. Changing direction: Two main thrusters are attached in back position for speeding up in forward direction, while there is only single thruster at front to decrease the velocity. Cargo shuttles have docking facilities. Depending upon the construction materials it carries, cargo shuttles are of two types: (i) With circular inner structure for carrying parts of tori. (ii) With square shaped inner structure for carrying square shaped materials. Eight hundred cargo shuttles facilitated with HMR works during construction sequence of harmony. 4.2.2 HUMAN POPULATION SHUTTLE (HPS) : HPS has a simple design like cargo shuttle, and is easier and simpler to build. HPS is especially designed to provide safety protocols for taking passengers from Earth to Harmony space settlement. It possess prism like structure with semicircular wings provided with thruster for changing direction. Propulsion system is provided with Ionic thruster which only generates required impulse. However, anionic system i.e. control, navigation and communication

HPS possess a life supporting systems. It does not carry extra loads than necessary in order to reduce mass. Each HPS will carry 1000 people. These HPS after successfully landing people to Harmony will again return back to Earth, and again re-continue its task. POWER FOR SHUTTLES: Both shuttles are powered with solar energy of 60% efficiency. They possess a pair of antennas for turning solar panels perpendicular to sunlight. GUIDANCE: Usually, both shuttles are guarded efficiently by communication centre from Earth and Lagrangian point. However, considering the risk, a red laser light is continuously emitted from Earth’s launching site to Harmony settlement point. In case of system failure, these shuttles can follow this track and reach their destination. This red laser light will possess high intensity and is visible from distant region too. 4.2.3 COMMUNICATION FROM GEOSTATIONARY AND L4 POINTS: For the communication purpose during the construction of space settlement, geostationary satellites are used which are kept at geostationary orbit of the earth. Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) is a circular orbit 35,786 km above the equator and following the direction of Earth’s rotation. An object in such orbit possesses an orbital period equal to the earth’s rotational period. COMMUNICATION: The GEO satellite of Harmony is fuelled by solar panel and is designed in such a way that it acts as the intermediate between the ground Earth Station, lunar station and L4 points. These GEO satellite doesn’t need to rotate antenna. There is some significant communication latency of around 253ms but is encountered well. These satellites communicate with Cargo Shuttles and HPR efficiently.

These points are similar to geostationary orbits as they allow an object to be in a “fixed” position in space relative to orbit where its relative position changescontinuously.Considering cost, risk and distance factors, instead of selecting settlement points in Outer Space and other possibilities, LagrangepointsturnsouttobethebestchoiceforHarmonySpacesettlement. Among five Lagrangian points, L1 is the best choice. Here, we have discussed mathematical derivation of Lagrangian point L1 . Lagrangian point L1 : The internal Lagrangian point L1 , is the point between center of Earth and center of Sun, as presented in figure where the gravitational attractionexertedbytheSunandbyEarthonamaterialpointofnegligiblemass ensures its dynamic equilibrium. The point is permanently in the samepositionrelativetotheEarth and to the Sun, which means that thepointisrotatingaroundtheSun with the same angular velocity as the Earth. Unfortunately, L1 point, unlike L4 and L5 , is unstable and any object on it tends to shift its position with time. To solve this problem, Harmony has two translational thrusters attached at the two ends ofprimeaxiswhichwillkeepitspositionstablebychangingitspositioninunstableL1 ¬point. The place will be well equipped with sophisticated automated robots, rockets and other communication as well as transportation system. The construction of Harmony Space Settlement will be carried out with the construction of fundamental skeletal design- The grand design of Harmony. Three tori composed of rings having radius 8 kilometers shall be made and assembled one over another. Then the structure would be welded to obtain desired one. After the construction of the toroid is completed, the interior construction shall be initiated. All these steps shall take different time periods. These steps are mentioned below: 1. Prime axis: The whole prime axis is divided into 32 parts and 3 spheres. Each 8 part is combined to form 4 cylindrical structures, with 3 gaps in between them. This step also includes the insertion of 3 (major section) spheres on this gap. 2. Connecting Ingots: This step starts the completion of welding of joints in step 1. This step includes connection of the spokes to the 3 spheres of prime axis.

In this step the remaining 4 parts of the torus is connected to the gap left in step 3.

Mirrors are adjusted and two solar panels (movable) are fitted on the two opposite sides of Beta Torus and the whole torus is covered by standard layers (and solar panels which are fitted on the surface of torus facing toward the central hub). The total external sequence is completed in the course of 72years. After this, the internal construction which includes management of transportation, communication, and other activities are conducted.

Artificial gravity hits our mind at first when we think about a space settlement project. 5.1 PRINCIPLE OF EQUIVALENCE : It is not always true that gravitational force is created by a massive object such as earth, and a feeling of gravitational force is experienced on earth only. Principle of Equivalence state that gravitational force as experienced locally while standing on a massive object is actually the same as pseudo-force experienced by an observer in a non-inertial frame of reference. Let, x1 and x be frame of reference as measured by moving object and stationary object respectively. Suppose a man is standing inside a moving object with acceleration equal to acceleration due to gravity. Then, he drops al ball. We know from Galilean transformation. According to quantum mechanics, gravitational force is mediated by a particle of spin 2 called graviton which has no mass of its own. By the time 2170s Harmony team members believe that there will be a complete understanding of physics and gravitational force will be combined with other three forces like Maxwell combined electricity with magnetism to form electromagnetism. Just like electric force can be converted into magnetic force, other three forces can also be converted into gravitational force. Based on this theoretical background, graviton generator is designed to generate gravity in Harmony. Graviton generator acts as a supplementary to rotational gravity generator. Some of the experimental findings like superconductor can generate artificial gravity are a clue for scientists working for graviton generator in Harmony. Each block of toroid is provided with two graviton generator. So some currently developing technologies will be upgraded and used in Harmony. Each member of Harmony will be implanted with small nano-robots that flow in the blood stream without causing any external and internal damages to the body. Everyday these nanobots will perform a full body check to monitor the heart rate, pressure, sugar levels, and all the hormonal activities of the body. Any imbalance would be quickly reported to the resident via A-Check (Illustrated later) as well as the doctor in the hospital. These nanobots would also see through the damaged cells and stop mutation so as to prevent cancer. Through the reports, the doctor will prescribe medicines to the resident upon further examination and observation. Any surgery to be performed will be conducted through tissue culture through the hands of trained surgeons. Medicines and vaccines would be produced through bio-technological processes Everyone will be routinely taught about techniques of first aid so that we are prepared for emergency situations. When a new disease sprouts, the doctors and physicians would immediately address the disease, study them and prepare the necessary vaccines and anti-biotics. New technologically advanced methods of medicine and surgery would equip the hospitals. The patients would have to face less pain, less hospital stay and with a fast recovery. At Harmony, fresh and nutritious food is produced and supplied to the residents. Both plants and livestock are organized and cultivated in harmony, separately and scientifically. On average, an adult requires 2500 kilo calories/day or 10500 kilo joules/ day. The rate of energy use is 121watts/second. The population of Harmony is approximately 200,000,000. Thus on average day we require 5X1011 kilo calories/day. The daily diet will consist of bread, potatoes fruits, vegetables, dairy products, oil, meat, milk, fish etc. The balanced diet will contain 15% proteins, 25% lipids and 60% carbohydrates. Smoking will be strictly prohibited and the use of drugs and intoxicants is strictly prohibited; and will be dealt severely by the law of Harmony. Food will be stored in the Controlling store of the torus. The products from the agricultural plates will be stored in the controlling store of each torus. The controlling store will distribute the food supplies to the central stores in each compartment. This central store will distribute the supplies to numerous branch stores in each compartment. The sub-stores will manage the demands of the food requirement. NUTRITION: Nutrients are those chemicals required for the body for the day to day activities. The nutrients are basically of 2 types: • Macro nutrients: Carbohydrates, Fats, Protein, Water(6-8 ltr) • Micro nutrients: Minerals like Ca, Cl, Mg, P, K, Na, Co, I; Vitamins Macro nutrients are obtained from the food. Minerals are also obtained from the nutritional food provided. Water soluble vitamins and minerals are obtained from the drinking water supplied to the houses. Water and water soluble vitamins are obtained (80%) form food, whereas other nutrients and 20% water should be included in the diet. Here at Harmony, the balanced diet will contain the nutrients in sufficient quantity, so as to maintain proper balance of the body. Moreover, the water treatment house will provide specialized water added with calculated nutrients to all the people for drinking. Food production and animal husbandry will be carried out in the agricultural plate that joins the torus. In each of the 8 docks, there are 8 chambers with 3 sub-compartments each divided into two sections: the right and the left section. The 3 sub compartments are production house, harvest house and manure house. These sub compartments are routinely

As the beta torus receives more food supply, it would be responsible for storing and packaging the food, and distributing it to the industries and stores. 10.2 TECHNIQUES: Only high quality seeds produced by genetic engineering produced within the Harmony will be used for cultivation. The quality seeds will be fast growing, have high productivity, high nutrient content and will be disease resistant. As people cannot survive only on capsules and packed food, fresh produces of potatoes, peas, algae, mushrooms, green salads, maize, wheat will be available to the residents in the Harmony Markets. The livestock would also only be of selected breeds to improve the meat production. Some of the medicinal plants to be grown at Harmony are: The techniques for food production are: 10.2.1 HYDROPONICS: Here in this technique, use of soil is completely absent. Plants are grown in medium like gravel, clay, cotton and when they are up to a certain height; they are introduced in glass jars or plastic tanks. Holes are cut in the tank and the plants are placed there. The cut provides support and helps in fixation. During different times of the day, water containing minerals is sprayed in to the naked exposed roots. The water contains the macro nutrients and micro nutrients like S, P, K, N, Ca, Mg, Na etc. in required amount.

Plants are grown in the soil and they are transplanted in specially built plastic jars or glass containers; after reaching certain level of maturation. The soil is only used for supporting the plant. The container has two layers, the first layer contains the soil; and the second layer beneath contains water. In the second layer, water with required nutrients is circulated daily. These techniques are needed in Harmony as many plants can be grown at a single time by layering them one above the other. Plants of different varieties can be grown at a time. The temperature, humidity are maintained inside the chambers where the plants are to be grown with the help of specialised devices and scientific techniques. 10.3 HARVEST: Harvesting is done by the people themselves. When the plants start to blossom and fruit, they are handpicked and harvested by people, and is sent to the respective torus immediately for supply and preservation. The torus is responsible to decide the quantity of supply to be packaged and delivered, depending upon the need. 10.4 MANURE: The plant after harvest will be of no use. Some plants may bear fruits

The water from house hold kitchens and bathrooms, after being treated in the water purification facility, can be utilized for agriculture. Also, the agriculture chambers will have a cooling system in the ceiling. The water transpired by the plants will be re-collected and again used for agriculture. This technique would be similar to rain water harvesting technique; instead it will have a cooling mechanism. 10.6 LIVESTOCK: Animal rearing is done in of the chambers of the dock that connects the torus. Only genetically engineered and improved breeds of animals would be raised in Harmony using biotechnology, gene therapy and selective breeding. 10.6.1 CATTLE REARING: Cattles like cows, buffaloes, goat, sheep, and pig are raised together. Milk producing animals like cows and buffaloes are reared mutually, and others are reared separately. They require optimum green vegetation and water. Thus they should be nurtured daily to obtain required milk. Other animals like goat, sheep and pig are raised together. They are not only provided with the nutritious pastures, but also with nutritious grains. When they reach the matured size, they will be sent to the slaughter house. 10.6.2 POULTRY FARMING: SpecialbreedsofchickenlikelayersandBroilerswillberaisedinHarmony. Goose and chicken breeds like Plymouth Rock Chicken, Leghorn Chicken, Cochin Chicken will be reared. Layers would give about 2-3 eggs per day under incubation at temperature of 99-99.5 0F. Thus, incubators will be provided for poultry farming where temperature and heat is maintained to have maximum production of eggs. When layers are matured and lose their egg production capacity, then they will be sent to the slaughter house. Regularly, few eggs are left in the incubators to hatch out into chickens. Broiler chickens and goose will be reared and sent to the slaughter house after maturation. The poultry raised will be provided with grains and proteins for their proper development. Regular checkups for the outbreak of diseases like bird flu will be maintained.

Different species of fish like Trout, Carp, Salmon, and Catfish are reared in Harmony to fulfill the protein diet requirement. The rearing of fish is done in special metal alloy or glass tanks. The dimension of the tanks would be normally 5m width, 2m breadth and 2m deep. It may also depend upon the type of fish species. The species of fish are to be separately reared as they all have different nutritional need, maturation time. Some species of catfish do not need protein in their diet whereas salmon requires protein in their diet. Thus, it would be easier to raise the fishes in different cages, rather than having a common cage. The eggs are incubated after hatching and the small fishes are introduced into the cages. The cages are well supplied with sunlight, maintained at an optimum temperature, has well oxygenated water and has proper circulation of water. Aquatic plants such as spirogyra, spirulina, hydrilla are also grown to provide the fishes with vegetative nutrition. Special fishes need foods enriched with nutrients depending upon the species of fish. Salmon is provided with protein in its diet, whereas Carp and Trout are provided with higher vegetative nutrition. Circulation of water is necessary so at to cease stagnant water. Stagnant water favours the development of bacteria which causes diseases. Use of propellers and motors help to circulate the water, and prevents from being stagnant. When the fishes reach the optimum weight and size, the water is aerated with carbon dioxide. This makes the fish unconscious and they rise up. Their gills are then cut and harvesting is carried out. This is the most humane way to harvest the fishes. Other methods include electrical harvest and lowering temperature of water to a very low temperature. After harvest is complete, the cages are disinfected and the water is sent for treatment. Fresh water is kept in the tanks and the fishes are again introduced. Before harvesting and during the breeding season, the female fishes are checked for eggs. Saprophytes or decomposers are categorized under micro consumers, and large consumers such as secondary and tertiary are categorized under macro consumer. We will take the macro consumers for the purpose of the food (animal products) only. Only selected breeds would be taken from Earth, and they would be inter-breeded and genetically modified for increased productivity. Furthermore, new organisms would be produced through cloning and genetic engineering. 10.8.3 DECOMPOSER Decomposers or micro consumers are the most important biotic factors in Harmony. Bacteria, fungi and some other saprophytic algae in Harmony would be responsible for decomposition of the wastes, manure production and cycling of the nutrients in the ecosystem. 10.8.4 MAN AS A MAJOR CONSUMER: Transfer of the energy in Harmony is linear, non-cyclic, open and unidirectional. The biological sequence of energy is through the Producers, Consumers and Decomposers. The shorter the food chain, greater will be the energy transfer. So, heavy consumers would not be introduced in Harmony. Human beings would be the major consumer. Maximum energy is lost during the transfer of energy from one tropic level to another. Almost every window pane of residential houses will have smart glasses. These glasses repair themselves and clean by vibration techniques. Harmony mirror (HM) placed towards both the ends of harmony reflects light to Light Hub (LH). LH contains multiple mirrors arranged to transfer the light to spokes. Light control Room (LCR)at the end of each light pipe will filter the harmful radiation.Sensorwillmeasureitsintensity.Iftheintensityoflightisinsufficient, artificial light will be generated as like the normal sunlight in Earth. At the end of days, the shutter will be closed to create artificial night. The solar panel on the surface of shutter generates electric power during night time. Prisms setup in LCR will diffract blue light on the upper surface of toroid to create sky like illusion. With the change in the direction of sun, HM automatically changes its direction. DAY NIGHT CYCLE: Day night cycle in Harmony is maintained by the shutter placed at each LH. In harmony, there are 8 days in one week with 2 holidays at the interval of 4 days. Length of day night cycle is usual 24 hours. But the length of day is kept to be 16 hours while the length of night is 8 hours. This day night cycle increases the working hours of Harmonians. 11.3 CLIMATE: Climate is an important factor to be managed in harmony. The climate in the central hub, the torroid and the agriculture plate will be different. In the central hub, there is zero gravity non pressurized regions and climate is not necessarily an important matter to be managed there. In case of torroid where people live, climate will be maintained properly. Maintenance of climate as like of Earth won’t be fruitful or efficient in the harmony. People can visit these green parks during morning or evening walks. 2. Cultural Park: Cultural Parks will also be made in the toroid.
