The document provides a brief history of three prominent American companies and their founders:
1) The credit card was invented in 1949 by Frank McNamara after he forgot his wallet at a restaurant. He went on to found the Diner's Club, one of the first credit card companies.
2) Steve Jobs co-founded Apple Computer with Steve Wozniak in 1977. Under Jobs' leadership, Apple released successful products like the iMac, iPod, and iPad that dominated their respective markets.
3) Mark Zuckerberg launched the social media platform Facebook from his Harvard dorm room in 2004. It has since grown to over 500 million users and acquired companies like Instagram.
4. The Credit Card
The idea of the credit card came to Frank
McNamara in 1949 while he was having dinner
at a restaurant in New York City.
McNamara realized he had forgotten his wallet.
McNamara negotiated his way out of washing
dishes to pay for his dinner by signing for it instead
and promising to pay the restaurant back.
McNamara went on to create the first American
consumer-facing credit card company, the
Diner's Club, which he founded in 1950 with Ralph
Sneider.
McNamara's cards caught on quick with
customers, expanding to 20,000 users in its first
year.
