This document discusses Penn State University's Sony Reader Project which aims to test the use of e-readers in classrooms and for library lending. It outlines the logistics of using virtual machines to load e-books onto 100 Sony readers for distribution to 20 computers across campus. Feedback will be gathered from surveys and interviews with students on their experiences using the e-readers for classes in subjects like English and library studies. Challenges identified include short battery life, slow page loads, and a lack of interactivity, though e-readers offer portability. Both students and libraries see benefits and drawbacks to the technology. The future of e-books depends on partnerships among educators, librarians, publishers and vendors to improve content options
