Abstract: It is known that Semantic Web and Linked Open Data (LOD) are powerful technologies for knowledge management, and explicit knowledge is expected to be presented by RDF format (Resource Description Framework), but normal users are far from RDF due to technical skills required. As we learn, a concept-map or a node-link diagram can enhance the learning ability of learners from beginner to advanced user level, so RDF graph visualization can be a suitable tool for making users be familiar with Semantic technology. However, an RDF graph generated from the whole query result is not suitable for reading, because it is highly connected like a hairball and less organized. To make a graph presenting knowledge be more proper to read, this research introduces an approach to sparsify a graph using the combination of three main functions: graph simplification, triple ranking, and property selection. These functions are mostly initiated based on the interpretation of RDF data as knowledge units together with statistical analysis in order to deliver an easily-readable graph to users. A prototype is implemented to demonstrate the suitability and feasibility of the approach. It shows that the simple and flexible graph visualization is easy to read, and it creates the impression of users. In addition, the attractive tool helps to inspire users to realize the advantageous role of linked data in knowledge management.

"Adventures in Linked Data Land: bringing RDF to the Wordsworth Trust" is a paper given by RIchard Light (http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/richard-light/a/221/ba5) to a Linked Data meeting run by the Collections Trust in February 2010. He runs through the basics of LD, how it relates to cultural heritage, and some of his experiments with it, specifically with the data of the Wordsworth Trust, finally listing a series of challenges that face museums in trying to get on board the Linked Data bus.
Out of the box, Accumulo's strengths are difficult to appreciate without first building an application that showcases its capabilities to handle massive amounts of data. Unfortunately, building such an application is non-trivial for many would-be users, which affects Accumulo's adoption.
In this talk, we introduce Datawave, a complete ingest, query, and analytic framework for Accumulo. Datawave, recently open-sourced by the National Security Agency, capitalizes on Accumulo's capabilities, provides an API for working with structured and unstructured data, and boasts a robust, flexible, and scalable backend.
We'll do a deep dive into Datawave's project layout, table structures, and APIs in addition to demonstrating the Datawave quickstart—a tool that makes it incredibly easy to hit the ground running with Accumulo and Datawave without having to develop a complete application.

The Metadata Provenance Task Group aims to define a data model that allows for making
assertions about description sets. Creating a shared model of the data elements required to
describe an aggregation of metadata statements allows to collectively import, access, use and
publish facts about the quality, rights, timeliness, data source type, trust situation, etc. of the
described statements. In this paper we describe the preliminary model created by the task group,
together with first examples that demonstrate how the model is to be used.

Improving Human–Semantic Web Interaction: The Rhizomer ExperienceRoberto García
Rhizomer is a generic semantic metadata browser and editor. It is based on “classic” HTML paradigms (table, form, etc.) in order to provide an easy and accessible user experience. For end-users, it looks like the web pages they are used to deal with. However, the semantics that lay behind are used to improve the user experience through an AJAX-enhanced web interface. The user interface is fed by a metadata storage abstraction layer, which offers a SPARQL endpoint and implements the DESCRIBE SPARQL primitive in order to improve the usability of the resulting metadata fragments. The metadata component is combined with a wiki engine that helps managing the content intended for human consumption. Altogether, both components build a simple yet powerful platform for Semantic Web portals.
Short presentation I gave at the Reading Semantic Web meetup about the Linked Data patterns book.
The talk outlined the major areas in which we can look for patterns and noted some areas for further work.

But traditional container technologies might not be suitable if strong isolation guarantees are required. So recently new technologies such as gVisor, Kata Container, or firecracker have been introduced to close the gap between the strong isolation of virtual machines and the small resource footprint of containers.
In this talk, we will provide an overview of the different containerization technologies, discuss their tradeoffs, and provide guidance for different use cases.

Running complex data queries in a distributed systemArangoDB Database
With the always-growing amount of data, it is getting increasingly hard to store and get it back efficiently. While the first versions of distributed databases have put all the burden of sharding on the application code, there are now some smarter solutions that handle most of the data distribution and resilience tasks inside the database.
This poses some interesting questions, e.g.
- how are other than by-primary-key queries actually organized and executed in a distributed system, so that they can run most efficiently?
- how do the contemporary distributed databases actually achieve transactional semantics for non-trivial operations that affect different shards/servers?
This talk will give an overview of these challenges and the available solutions that some open source distributed databases have picked to solve them.

RocksDB's stalls and stops are explained.

Every application needs a stateful layer which holds the data. Over the past years there has been significant progress in both the science and practical implementations of such data stores. This talk presents a genuine use case of ArangoDB's native multi-model approach, by means of the example of an e-commerce app. First the main advantages of a "multi-model" database are explained. Then we dive deep into the native multi-model database ArangoDB and its query language - AQL. We give an introduction to the three data-models ArangoDB covers (Documents, Graphs and Key-Values), and explain that AQL is a uniform query language that can cover all three data-models of ArangoDB, so no context switches are necessary.
The major part of the talk will explain the data model and show concrete AQL queries that would occur in an e-commerce platform. Max will demonstrate the multi-model advantages of AQL and how they lead to better performance and to a simpler life for developers.
