Habits, both good and bad, have a strong influence over our behaviors and identities. Bad habits can be difficult to change, similar to escaping a high-security prison, but with effort we can make radical improvements. As the only species capable of consciously changing our habits, we should continually strive for self-improvement and be willing to examine our own behaviors that bother others. Examples of annoying habits include substance abuse, monopolizing conversations, negativity, disorganization, lack of listening, selfishness, breaking agreements, and lack of responsibility. Making an effort to maximize our positive qualities and weed out negative behaviors can lead to a more fulfilling life.
