Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh Ji was the ninth Sikh guru, leading the Sikhs from 1665 until his execution in 1675 in Delhi under orders of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. He was born in Amritsar in 1621 and was trained in Sikh culture, archery, horsemanship, and Hindu scriptures. As guru, he contributed many hymns to the Guru Granth Sahib and taught that true detachment is to consider gold as dust and remain unaffected by worldly attachments or judgments of others. Mughal records note he had a large following and was accused of coercion and extortion by Aurangzeb before being beheaded.
