Guatemala faces significant challenges in achieving gender equality and the Millennium Development Goals due to its history of armed conflict, unequal distribution of income and resources between indigenous and non-indigenous groups, and vulnerability to climate change impacts. Women in Guatemala experience systematic social, economic, political, and cultural exclusion and discrimination. While some progress has been made in increasing women's participation in government and reducing gaps in health and employment indicators, achieving the MDGs and gender equity requires addressing challenges such as the country's adverse economic conditions, strengthening policy implementation, and improving transparency and monitoring of development programs.
