In 2015, we organized Samsung Agile Core Team, dedicated for developing products based on user-centered practices. For the first time in Korea, as a big enterprise we have made the grounds for Lean & Agile breakthrough.
As a designer lead of Agile Core Team, I'd like to share how to a build products in enterprise-scale team with a rapid prototyping and user validation. Especially enterprise where products involve many stakeholders and changes affect many teams across the organization needs solid confidence and sympathy from the early stage.
I want to share my experience and tips to overcome these issues through user data and tangible design.
Agile Ucd
User-centered design (UCD) is an approach that supports the entire development process to create applications that are easy to use and provide added value to intended users. It involves user research, design, and testing activities. UCD helps define requirements accurately, allowing changes to be made earlier in the design process when they are cheaper to implement. This helps create a better product that acts as a business differentiator. When practiced within an agile framework, UCD involves gathering user requirements in phases, prioritizing features, developing in independent modules or stories, and rapidly testing concepts through multiple development cycles. This approach mitigates project risks and provides a clear vision of the product for developers.

Make It Fast: Delivering UX Research to Agile Teams
One of the biggest challenges facing UX designers working with agile teams is providing user research in a quick, effective way. Design sprints take less time than in the past and development makes it difficult to slip user feedback into the mix. Traditional research takes time to design, set up, recruit for, run and analyze. Since that could span several sprints, “traditional” research simply doesn’t work in today’s rapid pace development, and the user experience suffers. Many organizations are tackling this challenge.
We’ve brought together 4 panelists who are using methods to address the issue of rapid UX research. Panelists come from both in-house teams and agencies. We’ll share our approaches and offer practical advice about how to do it, why it works and what could be improved. We’ll cover both unmoderated tests and more traditional moderated tests. In this presentation we will talk about the things you can do to become a design-driven company and ways that you can bring the voice of the user in throughout the development process.
Rapid Product Design in the Wild, Agile 2013
My Agile 2013 session 'Rapid Product Design in the Wild'. In August 2012 Red Gate attended Kscope, a conference for Oracle developers. Instead of doing the usual product demonstrations, we turned our stand into a live lab and took Agile development processes out of the office and in front of our customers. Our stand included an area for customer research, a Kanban board and information radiators in the form of a whiteboard, blank wall and a large digital screen. Over 3 days we ran 9 sprints and conducted 25 customer interviews, using a paper prototype to get feedback. We collected invaluable information about our customers' development environments, how they work with their teams, their processes, tasks and pain points. By the end of the conference my colleague had developed an interactive HTML/CSS prototype which potential customers could evaluate. The team went through several rapid build-measure-learn cycles to improve our product concept and validate the market need.
This presentation explains the process we used and introduces the Live Design Lab Planner, a tool which helps teams to plan this type of rapid product design activity.

A questo punto due sono le reazioni possibili: o si cerca di adeguare il modello di business ascoltando la reazione del mercato, oppure si rimane fermi nella propria posizione, mantenendo una visione personale che però è molto rischiosa.

L’imprenditore deve così farsi delle domande, considerare delle ipotesi e poi validarle “uscendo dall’ufficio” (get out of the building, come si dice in gergo) e confrontandosi con ciò che fino ad un minuto prima aveva su carta». A questo punto due sono le reazioni possibili: o si cerca di adeguare il modello di business ascoltando la reazione del mercato, oppure si rimane fermi nella propria posizione, mantenendo una visione personale che però è molto rischiosa.

The practicalities associated with this link can be tricky. As designers or transformation specialists we are often brought in to 'fix a thing' or 'build something shiny', and there often isn't the awareness of the inevitable need to tackle the blockers that pop up from behind cultural walls.
In this session, I explore this link and why I believe that it's all of our jobs to support stronger, more positive cultures for the employee experience but also for our users' experiences too. We'll ponder on how we do this when it often feels out of our remit and reach. "

Older Adults: Are We Really Designing for Our Future Selves? (BAD Conf. 2022)
Advice on designing for older people often urges us to consider this audience as our future selves. In one sense, this is helpful, as it fosters empathy with older users. But in another sense, it's misleading — it hints that all of the challenges we face in designing for more senior people now are ones we will face in 20, 30, or even 40 years.
Some design considerations are persistent because they relate to limitations that tend to come upon us as our bodies age. Eyesight dims, colour vision changes, hearing declines, joints lose flexibility, and memory isn't what it used to be. We will all experience some of these changes as we grow older, although at our own pace and in unique ways. And for the foreseeable future, bodies will continue to develop age-related limitations. Older people will always face these challenges simply because they are older, and our designs will always need to accommodate them.
Unfortunately, much of what we read and hear about designing for older adults mixes ageing-body limitations with issues such as comfort with technology, willingness to scroll, or typical online activities. Perhaps people will always become more hesitant to learn new technologies as they grow older and more frustrated when technology doesn't work as they expect. But the specific design considerations will change as technology evolves.
As designers, we need to understand which challenges we will always need to accommodate and which ones will evolve. It all boils down to the difference between challenges people have because they are older — and ones they have because they are older NOW.
This talk will help you understand what advice you can rely on for the long term and what issues you should keep testing for. It will illustrate with examples, including some from my own experience of being an older person who sees some age-related physical changes and is also very comfortable with technology.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
