AUTOMATIC ARABIC NAMED ENTITY EXTRACTION AND CLASSIFICATION FOR INFORMATION R...ijnlc
This article tries to explain our rule-based Arabic Named Entity recognition (NER) and classification
system. It is based on lists of classified proper names (PN) and particularly on syntactico-semantic
patterns resulting in fine classification of Arabic NE. These patterns use syntactico-semantic combination
of morpho-syntactic and syntactic entities. It also uses lexical classification of trigger words and NE
extensions. These linguistic data are essential not only to name entity extraction but also to the taxonomic
classification and to determining the NE frontiers. Our method is also based on the contextualisation and
on the notion of NE class attributes and values. Inspired from X-bar theory and immediate constituents, we
built a rule-based NER system composed of five levels of syntactico-semantic combination. We also show
how the fine NE annotations in our system output (XML database) is exploited in information retrieval and
information extraction.
Concept mapping for complexity managementLawrie Hunter
Graduate students are often overwhelmed by the huge amount of information and the numerous ideas that they want to put in their papers. Linear text, paragraph after paragraph, is not the ideal tool for structuring large collections of concepts.

Intelligent Portfolio Management via NLP Analysis of Financial 10-k Statementsgerogepatton
The paper attempts to analyze if the sentiment stability of financial 10-K reports over time can determine
the company’s future mean returns. A diverse portfolio of stocks was selected to test this hypothesis. The
proposed framework downloads 10-K reports of the companies from SEC’s EDGAR database. It passes
them through the preprocessing pipeline to extract critical sections of the filings to perform NLP analysis.
Using Loughran and McDonald sentiment word list, the framework generates sentiment TF-IDF from the
10-K documents to calculate the cosine similarity between two consecutive 10-K reports and proposes to
leverage this cosine similarity as the alpha factor. For analyzing the effectiveness of our alpha factor at
predicting future returns, the framework uses the alphalens library to perform factor return analysis,
turnover analysis, and for comparing the Sharpe ratio of potential alpha factors. The results show that
there exists a strong correlation between the sentiment stability of our portfolio’s 10-K statements and its
future mean returns. For the benefit of the research community, the code and Jupyter notebooks related to
this paper have been open-sourced on Github1.

You should select three of the following questions and respond to .docxodiliagilby
You should select three of the following questions and respond to them honestly and reflectively.
1. Could you ever relate to the above meme of the dog writing? If so, explain why? Reflect on when you felt like you had “no idea what you’re doing” as a writer. Provide a couple of examples of things that you now know about writing and some that you still do not know.
2. Consider the role of critical thinking and the use of evidence (logos) in your writing. Discuss at least one example of using evidence in your final research paper that strengthened the essay and explain why.
3. What does the message of “just keep writing” mean to you? Does it mean do not give up? Does it mean write through your writing struggles and you will get to the end? Does it mean that if you write frequently your writing will improve? What else might it mean to you? Explain.
4. Writing is hard. What were some strategies that you have found that make writing easier for you? Consider the way the Research Proposal, the Annotated Bibliography, drafting the research paper, peer reviewing it, breaking it down into parts or outlining it worked to make the process of writing the Research Paper less difficult. Discuss whether any of these parts of the process helped ease the writing of an eight-page paper and if they did, which ones, and how did they help?
5. What are some ways that work best for you when starting to write an essay? Be specific. Do you start with the thesis, the introduction, a supporting point, an outline, a free write, a “garbage draft,” or something else? Explain why you think this is the best way for you to “just start.”
6. Do you agree that an essay can be finished within one night? Do you believe that a quality essay can be begun and completed in one night? Explain why or why not. What are some aspects of the writing process that we’ve practiced that might make it difficult to start and complete a strong essay in one night? For example, think about using credible sources to establish ethos and to employ logos in the essay, peer reviewing, etc.
COURSE OVERVIEW
The forces of globalization have increased the permeability of traditional boundaries around countries, economies and industries. These forces include the expansion of international trade and investment, the growth of multinational corporations (MNCs), the ability of information and communication technology to span time and distance, and the shift of the world’s economic center of gravity from the West to Asia. Because of globalization, the environment of business is now more complex, more dynamic, more uncertain, and more competitive than ever before.
This course examines the opportunities and challenges that firms face when conducting business across national borders. Its main objective is to develop an understanding about the complex dynamics at play that shape the changing global business environment within which nations and firms compete. There are several distinct markers of success in graduate school.
1. Acceptance of the thesis / dissertation.
2. Publication of a research paper in a journal.
3. Acceptance to present at a conference.
In all of the above cases, success depends on two factors:
1) the content of the document, and
2) the writing of the document.
Successful writing must be readable, i.e. it must be easy and comfortable to extract information and argument from the text.
This workshop will survey the main elements of readability, illustrating each one with a task example.
This is an introduction to the main elements of readability in formal text, e.g. official documents. It reveals how readability in English is very different from readability in Japanese.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

7. The research experience:
In the middle of a research project, the researcher possesses a large body of detailed
knowledge. However, all that knowledge can be confusing without some kind of mental
map representing the comprehensive structure of the research design and the results. Such
a roadmap can mitigate the confusion arising from knowledge complexity.

Abstract
The internationalisation of currencies is a topic that has received substantial attention
following the recent inclusion of the currency X in the International Monetary Fund’s Special
Drawing Rights. Although currency internationalisation is fundamentally an outward-oriented
policy goal, there is a tendency to link it exclusively to capital account liberalisation and
domestic financial deregulation; this has shifted debate on the subject in a more inward-
oriented direction.
The present paper seeks to reconcile these two perspectives by demonstrating how currency
internationalisation hinges critically on international liquidity provision. Proceeding on the
assumption that international currencies, both as a matter of historical experience and
macroeconomic logic, are associated with current account deficits, the argument is made here
that international liquidity provision depends crucially on economic structural and
international institutional conditions.
This paper demonstrates how an economy’s position within the international monetary system
and regional supply chains shapes its development path and mode of production, which in
turn become important determinants of its currency’s international profile. Then the historical
experience of the Japanese yen is applied to the case of internationalisation of currency X, and
the resulting analysis suggests that internal rebalancing towards greater domestic
consumption and external rebalancing towards higher imports will be required if the
international role of currency X is to expand.

Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is matching or surpassing human performance in a growing
number of domains. However, there is limited empirical evidence of its economic
effects. Using a major e-commerce platform as the empirical context, we study an
application at the leading frontier of AI: machine translation. We find that the
introduction of a machine translation system has already had a significant effect on
international trade on this platform, increasing export quantity by 17.5%. Furthermore,
heterogeneous treatment effects are consistent with a substantial reduction in buyers'
translation-related search costs due to the introduction of this system. Our results
provide causal evidence that language barriers significantly hinder trade and that AI has
already substantially improved overall economic efficiency.

Abstract
Background
Artificial intelligence (AI) is matching or surpassing human performance in a growing
number of domains. However, there is limited empirical evidence of its economic
effects.
Introduction
Using a major e-commerce platform as the empirical context, we study an application at
the leading frontier of AI: machine translation.
Findings
We find that the introduction of a machine translation system has already had a
significant effect on international trade on this platform, increasing export quantity by
17.5%. Furthermore, heterogeneous treatment effects are consistent with a substantial
reduction in buyers' translation-related search costs due to the introduction of this
system.
Discussion/Conclusion
Our results provide causal evidence that language barriers significantly hinder trade and
that AI has already substantially improved overall economic efficiency.
