The LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design .

The LEED rating is a form of eco-label that rates buildings
according to key environmental attributes such as site
impacts, energy and water use, selection of materials and
indoor environmental quality.

                                      6/3/2012 5
The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) has
developed LEED rating system for meeting specific set of
standards for green buildings.

Certified 40-49 points
Silver 50-59 points.

Answer is No.
Because of indiscriminate use of concrete and conventional
building materials in urban areas ,the normal atmospheric
temperature is relatively higher than areas with few buildings.
CO2 emissions from such buildings add to the environmental
pollution and global warming which might result in
catastrophic consequences such as:
Reduction in agricultural output and global food
   production.
Rise in the sea level in coastal plains.
Alteration in ecosystem and biodiversity pattern .
Prolonged flooding and copious rainfall in regions
   receiving abundant rainfall.

                                          6/3/2012 11
Higher upfront capital investment for usage of advanced
technologies and materials.
Lack of knowledge and experienced workforce.
Slow diffusion of technological know-how.
Deliberate negligence towards ecofriendly concerns.
Global economic slump and slow growth in new construction
projects.

                                       6/3/2012 12

   supplemental irrigation.
Usage of high quality and sustainable building materials.
      * Volatile organic compounds.
      *Urea formaldehyde.
                                       Culprits of health hazards .

Zero-Energy Buildings (ZEB) : In order to achieve net-zero-energy
use, building energy demand should be reduced by 60-90 % over
current standards and the remainder would be satisfied by on-site
renewable energy generation such as solar, wind and geothermal
technologies.

According to ,United States National Renewable Energy
Lab(NREL), ZEB produces as much energy as it uses when
measured at the site.(Net –zero site energy building).

The recent advances in nanotechnology ,information technology ,and
renewable energy technologies have created opportunities for energy-efficient
green buildings.
With growing demand for sustainable, eco-friendly and socially responsible
lifestyle has necessitated the construction of green buildings towards
achieving the goal of a greener planet in foreseeable future.
The global demand for retrofitting the existing building structures into green
building standards in accordance with Energy Star ,ISO 50001& LEED in
order to achieve the energy efficiency and sustainable environmental
standards is on rise.
This innovation in sustainable building technologies is not only a
benchmarking standards for next generation buildings but also safe practices
for curbing global warming and environmental pollution.
