It follows Aeneas as he travels to Carthage and has an affair with Dido before continuing on to Italy. There, he engages in battle with the local king Turnus, who opposes Aeneas's founding of a city. After many battles, Aeneas and Turnus face off in a final duel where Aeneas emerges victorious, fulfilling his destiny to establish Rome.
