In this presentation I am trying to highlight two different approaches to user research, which I will describe in more detail in the next presentation.

Several interrelated long-term and immediate factors contributed to the outbreak of World War 1. Rising nationalism across Europe upset the traditional balance of power and led countries like Germany and Serbia to seek to expand their territory. An arms race between European powers exacerbated tensions, as did tight networks of alliances that pulled more countries into local conflicts. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand provided the spark that ignited hostilities after Austria-Hungary issued demands on Serbia, leading Germany, Russia, France and eventually other allies to enter the fray.

Canada's interests in Asia were mainly focused on immigration, trade opportunities, and Christian missionary activities. These limited interests likely shaped the views of External Affairs officials who guided Canada's participation in postwar international commissions involved in decolonizing East Asia. While Canada's involvement in East Asia seems smaller than its role in Europe, its impact may have been more significant from the perspective of the East Asian states affected by Canada's postwar policies. This document aims to fill gaps in understanding Canada's role in international bodies that managed Japan's defeat and the decolonization of Indochina
Causes Of World War 1
Several interrelated long-term and immediate factors contributed to the outbreak of World War 1. Rising nationalism across Europe upset the traditional balance of power and led countries like Germany and Serbia to seek to expand their territory. An arms race between European powers exacerbated tensions, as did tight networks of alliances that pulled more countries into local conflicts. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand provided the spark that ignited hostilities after Austria-Hungary issued demands on Serbia, leading Germany, Russia, France and eventually other allies to enter the fray.
Canada & World
After World War 2 and the emergence of the Cold War between the West and Soviet Union, Canada allied firmly with the Western bloc. In 1945, a Soviet embassy clerk in Canada, Igor Gouzenko, defected and brought documents exposing a Soviet espionage ring in Canada. This led to a secret investigation. Canada tried to restrain American actions in the Cold War while tolerating Communists at home. Canada benefited economically from the Marshall Plan and NATO membership, though it wanted to reduce military spending. Canada helped establish NATO as a military alliance against the Soviet threat.
Airforce
The document summarizes Canada's contributions to Allied air operations in World War 2. It discusses the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan which trained over 130,000 pilots and aircrew in Canada. Responsible Government
1) Joseph Howe leads the fight for responsible government in Nova Scotia in the 1840s against the governor.
2) The other Atlantic colonies - New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland - achieve responsible government in the following years, from 1849 to 1855.
3) In Canada, reformers put pressure on governors to end lifetime appointments to the executive council and include some representatives from the assembly. This moves Canada toward responsible government.
Revolution And Consequences

The scandal caused MacDonald's government to fall. A new company, the Canadian Pacific Railway, was formed with incentives from the government to take over construction. They completed the railway in 1885, establishing a transcontinental rail line across Canada.
Railway
In the 1850s, British North America had less than 100 km of railway track while the United States had 15,000 km. Reciprocity

Political deadlock emerged in Canada due to equal representation between Canada East and Canada West in the legislature, which each having 48 seats. Canada West had many political parties that made it difficult for any one party to gain a majority. Meanwhile, Canadiens dominated in Canada East. This required a double majority from both regions of Canada to form a stable government. Various coalition governments were attempted but fell apart quickly over small disagreements. George Brown proposed a federal union to divide power between provinces and a federal government as a way to end the deadlock.
Loyalists And Constitution Of 1791

Nwmp & Treaties

Fur Trade
