2. Graphic Design Styles – Task 1a
For my graphic design presentation I have decided to go with Urban and .
3. What is Urban
Urban graphic design is based around graffiti style design. Modern day graffiti is a hand style
design which usually contain big colourful letters and images. The equipment you need is a
spray pain and a wall or a canvas.
Graffiti started back in ancient Egypt times. Here are some example:

examples you can see the bright
colours and the big fonts.
With this example you
can see the big font
with the bright orange
colour.

7. Graphic design genres - Task 1a
I have decided to identify graphic elements in several genres including music and
sport
8. 5 graphic design: Music
An example of graphics in music is when you see is the
name of the artist pop up when there song comes on the
MTV music stations.
Also another example of
graphics in music is the albums
art like these two.
This is a print screen of Machine
Gun Kelly website. An example
of graphics in music is the
album cover of Machine Gun
Kelly being converted onto his
website. Also has information
where you can get the album.
9. Fashion
In fashion you find the graphics in magazine and the internet. An
example of graphics in magazine is Dazed and Confused which is
a magazine that does not follow the rules while vogue does and is
more conventional.
A way ID magazine uses Graphics is my turning the ID to make it
look like a winks and the models on the front cover are either
winking or has an eye covered.
10. Fantasy
This is the activity of imaging the impossible or improbably
things like magical creatures or different worlds. These
fantasy worlds include Narnia, Wizard of OZ.
Here’s an example of a fantasy creatures Mermaid and a
Merman. These are half people and half fish. These are
usually imagined my young girls. Mermaid has been
adapted into a film which was created by Disney called the
little Mermaid. Fantasy creatures will also include Giants,
Centaur and Goblins.
11. Sports
In sports Graphic design is used for a number of things to show a
player’s statistic over the season or his career and also to promote
upcoming events and gear.
This is an example of graphic design used to show a team’s
schedule. The images of the players were taken separately and
montaged together. The white lines are to show movement from
the player posing with the basketball.
Here graphic design is used in football to show John Walters’s last
five penalties and how many he scored and how many he missed.
The image shows a picture of the goal and the green balls show
the ones he scored and the red balls are to show the ones he
missed. Also an inserted image shows John Walters face as he
takes the penalty.
Both of these images use a san serif type of text which is a basic
text.
12. Adventure
In adventure graphic design is usually found in video games and magazines.
This is an example of Watch dogs which is an action and adventure video game. Here it
shows the player how to hack different your enemies device to gain information help the
player get further through the game.
Blue circles show the devices which is available hack and the red circles show the available
way to hack the device.
13. Comparing graphic styles in 2 genres
across different sectors – Task 1b
For my comparison I have decided to compare graphic styles in the genres of
music and sport looking at examples of desk-top published and web-based
products.
Example in music will be music magazines as a desk top publish and the web-
based products will be music streaming site like sound cloud.
In sport I will look at a match programme and the NBA website
14. Paper based music magazines
The front cover of this magazine has an has a lot of features. This magazine has
some aspect of punks style. The colour scheme also resembles urban style with the
tagline font style and colour. An example is the size and colour scheme of the font
at the bottom. It looks like it has been cut and pasted.
The main title Vibe has the a capital B and lowercase e which is breaking rules
which is another example of punk.
The font is still san cerrif and they it still has a international style.
15. Paper based sport magazine
The basketball magazine I picked is more of an urban style then the music
magazine I picked.
The tagline font is like a graffiti style which resembles urban. Another difference
between the music and basketball magazine is that the basketball has a bright
background.
The main picture of the basketball is over the main title this is makes the audience
focus more on the basketball player.
16. Music magazines as a desk-top publish
Here is a print screen of a desk top magazine called http://www.qthemusic.com/. The style of
this magazine is international style with a san cerffi type face. It has a lot of category and is very
image based.
17. Sport website.
I picked the NBA website and I will compare it with the qthemusic website.
Links to the websites :http://www.qthemusic.com/ http://www.nba.com/
The similarities between the two websites are that they are both picture based websites.
Both of the websites use a international style magazine and have a san cerrif type face.
Another similarity between the two websites are that they both have a links to YouTube
videos. They also have a menu system which takes you to live events.
The difference between the two websites is that the basketball one has drop downs
while qthemusic doesn’t .
