Grants fund - Development Innovations Orientation
The Development Innovations Catalyst Fund is offering $1.2 million in grants to support social innovation through technology. There are three types of grants available: short-term technical assistance grants up to $50,000; solution grants up to $100,000 to support development or implementation of ICT projects; and private partnership grants up to $150,000 to develop technology solutions of interest to social innovators. Applications are open until March 31, 2016 and will be evaluated based on addressing development challenges, sustainability, encouraging ICT uptake, tangible results, efficiency, and ability to adapt ideas from other contexts.

- #2 Let me introduce my self : I am Lan, Grants Manager of Development Innovations project funded by USAID through DAI organization. When you heart about grants. Could you tell me what are you thinking about?
- #3 As we don’t have much time to day to present you in more detail about our Grant Fund. However, these are what I am going to cover this 30 minutes. To get more detail, you can obtain the full RFA from our website Development Innovations or contact us in person.
- #4 I believe that this morning you have learned a lot from our team about project activities including 5D process, training program, ILAB, and TDP program and now you are going to hear about Catalyst Fund. Could tell a little big the word Catalyze mean to you? The catalyze here means to stimulate, accelerate, or boost your process, strategy, or operation to make it happen more quickly, effectively and efficiency. The 1.2 million is not going to support only one or two grants but we try to support as much as we can in our whole project life and a whole or part of these process and Our Grants fund will be used to promote the development and implementation of ICT-enabled solutions that help CSOs and private companies: To expand your outreach, To increase the uptake of your services, To deepen the impact of your activities, and To improve your operating efficiency, thus contributing to the long term sustainability of your organizations. Proposed activities should in all cases respond to the needs of the populations served by CSOs or private company and should be designed to meet user needs and market conditions, i.e. user centered designs, sustainable activities
- #5 These three type of grants is waiting for you to apply and you can choose whether which one that fit to your organization. You may want to understand more at each of these kind of grants.
- #6 STTA grant are designed to provide a funding opportunities for a number activities of any stage of the 5D process such as : Market research related to Development Innovations objectives. Product and service design It means that any of these eligible applicant would help us to define issues/ challenges, which could be solved by ICT project or discover the human and technical resource or define the strategies to overcome the challenges or to evaluate the develop and deploy process. Could you tell me any ideas about short Term Technical Assistant that you may have? For example: before we start working with entertainment worker, we need to know their profile? So baseline assessment need to be conducted. This kind of grant will be awarded for scope of work that less than 180 days and need counterpart contribution less then 25%. Counterpart contribution including In-Kind or cash. In-Kind like your staff time, building, etc.
- #7 Solution Grants. what is solution mean to you? Who are ready to apply this Grants? This grant is going to support to develop or implement of ICT project to respond to the need of your organization. As you seen this diagram, it means that you have already knew well your challenge and strategy to solve it. For instant, at the SRH sector, a number of reproductive age women and men lack of information on STI, family planning knowledge and their behavior on SRH is reluctant discuss on face to face, therefore, some NGOs use IVR system to respond to this challenge or hotline counseling or e-learning. Development Innovations Catalyst Fund grants will prioritize grant applications that demonstrate collaboration between CSOs and TSPs around a specific solution or challenge. Anyway, I do hope that you have other better ideas to find a solution to your challenges. However, if you haven’t yet any idea please contact with our team to get event, training or other consultation.
- #8 This grant is going to support to any private companies who have ideas to development of technology solution, tools or services to address key needs of the social innovation community, and will help to develop and to realize potential synergies between the private company’s goals and project objectives. The reliability and adaptability of the solution or tools use by a variety of institutions. However, Private Partnership is require 50% counterpart contribution.
- #9 How to apply? Are you ready to apply? For anyone who hasn’t yet ready that is still fine. We offer you a rolling applicant. It means that you have a chance to apply for our grant anytime from now to March 30, 2016. There are simple process as stated in slide. Complete maximum of 2 pages of concept notes Completed maximum 20 pages of proposal

- #11 This 4 evaluation criteria included Technical approach including concept development, collaborative approach, adaptability to local conditions/needs and sustainability, 2) Management & institutional capacity included human, financial, accounting, managerial capacity, 3) Potential to improve social issues included technology strategies, and how they can improve their outreach, 4) Budget.
