Exhibition Reminder
• Culminating project to show learning throughout all of
PYP from EC to grade 5
• A team project that shows the students skills from pre-
planning all the way through to the finished project
• The process is as important as the product so attendance
throughout Exhibition is mandatory
• Students will be working on academic as well as social,
research skills, communication, thinking and self-
management skills
• Exhibition will run for 6-8 weeks with Exhibition Night is
scheduled for May 3rd

It is used in Middle and High school for students seeing
grades, assignments and reports.
In Elementary school we use it to show:
specialist contribution to work
major assessments,
field trips
report cards
Differentiation Happens
• Across all subjects for all students as needed
• Adapts the classroom curriculum to meet the needs of
the child but does not change the grade 5 learning
objectives
• In the homework process
• Students are encouraged to
share learning that has
happened outside of school
with their class
Assessment and Reports
• Assessment is ongoing and involves both summative and
formative assessment.
• Reports are written based on assessments, anecdotal
notes and individual student continuums.
• Conferences occur twice per year on November 12 & 13
(parent/student/teacher) and April 21 & 22 (student led)

Technology In Grade 5
• Student computers in class
• Technology integration occurs across all subjects
• Mr. Shaun is the Media Tech Specialist
• Some websites for students to practice skills are
www.ixl.com, www.vocabulary.com, www.typing.com,
and www.raz-kids.com
• Students are encouraged to use
technology (cameras, computers,
personal devices) at home
Special Days
Field Trips: Our field trips tie into our units of inquiry or
other classroom subject.
Assemblies: Once per month on Thursday afternoons
Grade 5 Exhibition: End of April
• Other: Half Days,

Dinner, Snow
Show, Spring Show,
Talent Show
Being Prepared for School
Students are expected to:
• Gain further independence this year
• Bring a water bottle with them each day
• Prepare their binder and homework accordingly
• Be at school and ready to learn by 8:30
• Get a good nights sleep (8-10 hours)
• Leave toys, electronics and cell phones in their lockers
• Come to school healthy and remain home if they are
unwell
Homework...
• Homework is given to reinforce concepts taught in
class or to pre-teach ideas before a lesson
• It will be given on Friday and should be returned
the following Friday, with the exception of math
• Homework should be
relatively stress free in Grade
5 and students should be
rather independent
completing it to help prepare
them for Middle School
To Offer Support...
• Check your child’s binder and To Do list each night
• Sit down and offer support before your child starts their
homework. Review it after it is complete
• Come into the classroom and spend time with your child
• Play an educational game with your child
• Discuss the current Unit of Inquiry (UOI) and make
connections from the UOI to family life
• Encourage students to take action based on their learning
• Use PYP vocabulary when talking with your child

• Aside from emails and class visits there are two important
ways to keep up to date on what is happening in the
classroom
