Building a successful enterprise mobility roadmapPomeroy
Enterprise Mobility is not a new concept, but these days it is having a disruptive impact on many organizations. Many IT departments feel unable to respond effectively due to the influx of new devices and the growing internal demand for app development. When trying to deal with these challenges, the result is often the sacrifice of long-term effectiveness to meet short-term goals.
Now is the time to actively create a roadmap to guide your organization's mobility efforts, especially if Gartner's predictions prove accurate- that within 2 to 3 years, 40% of the workforce will be mobile and 70% of customers will interact with you via mobile device.
How is mobility transforming the enterprise? What is the fizzle that drives success? What are the key tools and trends to keep in mind for 2015?
Every year we advise our customers and partners on the top trends in mobile and what it means for them. This year we've expanded this by looking specifically at enterprise mobility trends based on insights from customers, research and more.

CompTIA’s 2nd Annual Trends in Enterprise Mobility study builds on previous CompTIA research in the mobility space and further explores mobility trends, challenges and opportunities. Understand the variables and trade-offs involved in a company’s decision on provisioning devices; ascertain benefits realized from using mobile/remote work solutions; identify the challenges in supporting and managing mobile/remote work; and
gauge the need for training and/or standards.
As 2017 looms ahead businesses, CEO's, C-level management, as well as non-profit or political leadership need to take a look ahead and see what the new adaptive technologies and business trends can be harnessed and applied to their model in order to operate more efficiently.
Your Challenge:
- With the complexity of mobility increasing in most organizations, enterprise mobility management (EMM) is becoming necessary to manage devices, as well as all aspects of mobility.
- While EMM might seem simple from the outside, it has many moving parts. It covers devices, applications, data, security, policies, financial management, and help desk management.
- Without a detailed implementation plan to mitigate issues such as missing components, an unprepared IT department and help desk, and low end-user adoption, IT will find it difficult to ensure a successful launch.
Our Advice:
Critical Insight
- Mobility within organizations continues to grow more complex, and requirements for managing mobility now extend far beyond the device itself.
- As BYOD continues to grow and new products are released into the market, EMM will become a necessary tool for long-term sustainability and effective use of mobility.
- Without a proper implementation plan in place, organizations will find it difficult to achieve a suitable, unified solution for short and long-term sustainability of mobile management.
Impact and Result
- Prepare the organization for mobility by developing an implementation plan that covers EMM from start to finish, including selecting a vendor, managing help desk changes, engaging users, and developing an actionable timeline.
- Create a tailored solution for the unique needs of your organization.

Viability of bring your-own-computer BYOC programsMasaf Dawood
The confluence of powerful hand held devices, and a broadband network at home has created the desire for employees to expect the same level of connectedness in the enterprise space/workplace. Businesses are feeling the pressure to develop a hybrid support approach that also includes Gen Y and Gen Z workers, who are technology savvy and would like to use these devices in the workplace. What is un-clear is how some of the programs aimed at integrating users own devices will work with the existing IT/framework and this paper attempts to provide a balanced approach to analyze the problem and propose a solution.

Attackers are already signaling that they view identity as crucial to modern security, concentrating their attacks on this important control plane as identity-based attacks lead the 300% overall increase in attacks experienced over the last year. This attack concentration is due to the changing shape of the modern workplace, with identity playing such a vital role in every cloud IT environment, cyber-attacks against identities will only continue to increase in their sophistication and persistence.

Container-based technology has experienced a recent revival and is becoming adopted at an explosive rate. For those that are new to the conversation, containers offer a way to virtualize an operating system. This virtualization isolates processes, providing limited visibility and resource utilization to each, such that the processes appear to be running on separate machines. In short, allowing more applications to run on a single machine. Here is a brief timeline of key moments in container history.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
