Ragtime Essay
Present in the different novels of E.L. Doctorow are many themes, ranging from the impact of
technology on society to the drastic effects of war. All of his books have something in common: the
prevalence of the American dream. The United States of America was founded around the fact that
anybody can come here and succeed with the right amount of effort. Ironically, the people that
praise the United States oppress blacks and other minorities so that they cannot succeed. In E.L.
Doctorow s Ragtime, Booker T. Washington advocates the abandonment of the pursuit of the
American dream by illustrating the sacrifices that many African Americans were willing to make to
obtain racial peace.
The famous, black, nineteenth century politician Booker T. Washington plays a large role in
Ragtime. An actual quote from Washington in 1894 reads that he was indeed willing to give up
the demand for racial equality as well as political and civil rights in order to achieve the dream of
racial peace. Washington advocated that something had to be exchanged for racial harmony.
Although Washington clashed with other civil rights activists such as W.E.B. Dubois, and
seemingly accepted segregation, he was nonetheless recognized for his movement to promote racial
peace among African Americans. The foremost black educator and institution builder of his time
was completely willing to have blacks remain subordinate to

Advantages Of Privatization Of Water
Introduction
The case discussed in this paper is that of whether water should be privatized or be a public asset.
Nestle s chairman and former CEO Peter Brabeck states that water is not a right and it should be
privatized as it is raw materials.
Water is needed for everything, and all human beings and animals need it in order to live.
Privatizing water is just another way of stealing. Water cannot be privatized and owned by private
corporations whose only concern is to increase their profits.
Counterarguments
There are several counterarguments from proponents of privatization of water. The proponents of
water privatization state that by having the private sector in charge of the distribution would make
the process more efficient than the public sector doing so. There s no specific study and this cannot
be predicted accurately as this has not happened previously. However, the distribution system has
already been set up by the public sector and also the public sector has been handling the operations
for years which equates to more experience in the field than other private companies would have.
Another argument proponents of water privatization have is that they believe that it would cost
less if the private sector took charge of the distribution of water. There s a wrong idea that shifting
the burden from the public sector to the private sector taxpayers would pay less as the company
would repair, maintain and upgrade the infrastructure. However, that is not the case. For

Timothy W. V. Rochester School District Essay
Timothy W. V. Rochester School District
Abstract
The provision of resources to handicapped children is subject to a wide variety of federal and state
laws and statutes. However, due the varied and spectacular range of disabilities and combination of
disabilities it is often difficult to easily decide who should receive benefits and who should not.
Often debated both within the court system, and without, is the subject of whether the child with a
severe disability can actually benefit from the services and resources being allocated to that student.
Timothy W. V. Rochester School District addresses just that issue referred to as Zero Reject.

This ruling primarily concerned the schools responsibility to maximize student achievement and
was more focused on the level of services provided rather than the exclusion of benefits due to lack
of benefit. (United States Court Of Appeals, 1989) The Rowley case ultimately provided a basic
floor of opportunity and with regard to handicapped children specifically states that ... [t]he Act
requires special educational services for children regardless of the severity of their handicap, ...
and [t]he Act requires participating States to educate a wide spectrum of handicapped children,
from the marginally hearing impaired to the profoundly retarded and palsied... (United States
Court Of Appeals, 1989) Although Robert Walczak and Karen Walczak V. Florida Union Free
School District and Maureen Flaherty produced a ruling that a child should be placed in a program
that provides for educational advancement it does not prescribe that a child must show ability to
advance before services are rendered.
The Impact
This case set the precedent for zero reject as an accepted policy, currently without substantial
debate, for all children covered under disability statute and legislation. As such, children with
severe disabilities who are perceived to be uneducable due to the severity of their condition are not
withheld the educational services granted their peers of lesser disability. The ability to receive and
benefit from the education provided is not a factor

Female Relationships Between Female And Male Conversations
As the laugh they all laughed, and the joke they all told, and the secrets they all shared. Female and
Male friends are similar and distinctive in so many ways. But one thing they share among each
other is their friendship. Such Conversations, Activities and personalities are displayed differently
between maleand females. It is evident that femaleand male conversations differ from each other.
Females can hold a conversation on the phone for hours and not run out of things to say, beginning
from gossip, to chattering about crushes, then on continuing to compliment each other for
supportive reasons, later comes down to being called the word Thick . Females sometimes don t
realize how much we need us women in each other s life. For instance, we require each other for
support, love, and the basic everyday drama which include going through menstrual cycles that men
naturally can t comprehend. On the other hand, males can barely last an hour when holding a
conversation on the phone. Male conversations are usually more of a straight forward approach,
they say what they discuss what they need to discuss and dismiss the conversation. Money, sex,
drugs, and not to mention sports of all things is usually the topic on a day to day basis as I ve
grown up all my life in a male household. Males tend not to get too emotional when they converse
with other males, however when having conversations with females, they can conversate for hours

Explain The Achievements Of The Federalist Era
The Federalist Era is the period of time from about 1788 to about 1801, beginning with the
ratification of the Constitution and ending with Jefferson s inauguration as President of the United
States. The Federalist Era is characterized by how the Federalist Party took over and transformed
politics in the United States. The Federalist Era brought about quite a few achievements in failures.
During the Federalist Era, there were a lot of achievements in the United States. First of all, the
Federalist Era arguably began with the adoption of the United States Constitution. The Federalists,
who later became the Federalist Party, were the supporters of ratifying the Constitution. Anti

First of all, an event known as the Whiskey Rebellion occurred during the Federalist Era. In
Pennsylvania, farmers used corn to produce whiskey in order to utilize more useful modes of
storage and transportation. In Hamilton s plan of tariffs and taxes, there was an excise tax on
whiskey produced in the United States. The tax triggered violent protests from farmers in
Pennsylvania. George Washington used executive power to put down the rebellion. In addition, the
rebellion caused a deeper division between political parties. Second of all, the Federalist Era is
characterized by resistance from the opposing Democratic Republican Party. The Democratic
Republican Party began with Thomas Jefferson s resignation from Washington s cabinet due to
decisions on Federalist policy. Jefferson especially disagreed with Alexander Hamilton s decisions
on finances. By the end of the Washington presidency, the partition between loose and strict
constructionists had transformed into two political parties. The loose constructionists became the
Federalist Party and the strict constructionists became the Democratic Republican Party. In
Washington s farewell address, Washington warned the people of the United States about how
political parties can cause the destruction of the government. Third of all, the Federalist Era is
characterized by foreign conflicts and tension. During the Federalist Era,

Examples Of Princess Cimorene In Dealing With Dragons
In the novel, Dealing With Dragons, by Patricia C. Wrede, Princess Cimorene was justified in
dismissing the social standards of her day because in the novel, she escapes from her previous life
as a proper princess, to soon enjoy her new life as princess to the King of Dragons, as well as
saving their kind from corruption by the dragon, Woraug, and the wizards. At the beginning of the
novel, Cimorene is shown disregarding the activities that her parents allow her to do. The
activities chosen for Cimorene are standard things for princesses such as herself, but she wants to
do something more fun and exciting, creating an interesting juxtaposition between her and her
sisters. Embroidery lessons, and dancing, and and being a princess! My dear Cimorene! the fairy
said, shocked. It s your heritage! It s boring. Furthermore, Cimorene literally says that she loathes
being a princess because of how monotonous everything is. Her fairy godmother is shocked by
Cimorene s choices, not sure how to help her with her problem. Cimorene was supposed to be like
her sisters, but she came out obedient instead, defying while also going below their standards.
Secondly, Cimorene repeatedly managed to get out of her recommended activities to sneak herself
into the lessons she wants, like cooking. Cimorene s parents constantly had to manually stop her
from doing these activities that she chose. The same thing happened over the Latin lessons from the
court philosopher, the cooking lessons

The Qur An Analysis
In the battle for gender parity, those who stand guard at the gate posts of Muslim status quo have
sometimes reacted vehemently against claims for justice. (xviii) In this quote, Amina Wadud
highlights her quest for proving the Qur an is an ungendered text and discusses types of
reactions to her book Qur an and Women. Wadud s book, published in 1992, redefines the way
the Qur anic text views women and is the genesis of more scholarly works and discussions on the
topic of women. Wadud is the most influential woman scholar of the Qur an in history. Her
purpose is to solely look at the Qur anic text itself and not the hadith or Islamic traditions that have
evolved since it s revelation. She is clear to state that if the equality between males... Show more

She proves this through the discussion about the Arabic terms nafs and zawj. Nafs can be
translated to mean self, and though it holds a feminine gendering conceptually it can be seen as
neutral (19). Zawj is typically translated as spouse and though it holds a male gendering is also seen
as neutral (20). The Qur an states that a nafs was created and from that nafs its pair or zawj was
also created (22). Wadud emphasizes that the zawj highlights the pairing nature of the creation
story. Though the creation story does not have much material about the zawj, the duality of the
nafs and zawj as a pair is repeatedly emphasized in many verses (21). The Qur an does establish that
there is an intentional male/female pair yet it only difference it emphasizes is the biological
function of the mother (21 22). Therefore nafs and zawj cannot be translated to specifically mean a
male nafs and a female zawj (20). With this point Wadud argues that the creation story is gender
neutral and does not emphasize male

Analysis Of Truman Capote s The Cold Blood

In Cold Blood Reflection Paper The novel In Cold Blood by Truman Capote is truly a very
intriguing piece of literature. Based on a true story, the events of the novel follow the homicide of
a loving family who are brutally murdered in a single night and tensions within the community rise
as the real culprits are being searched for. Now the plot of the story isn t what makes this an
extraordinary piece, it s the tone and mood that Capote uses to describe certain events, characters,
and even settings. When it was revealed in the story that the reason for ... Show more content on

When he describes the Clutter family the mood is happy and joyful and his tone is almost like
he is over praising them as a family. This is because the Clutter family was seen as a perfect
family that had nothing wrong with ait and everyone got along with very well. Now for the two
culprits it was different. The tone and mood he used seemed to be pretty personal to both
characters, as if they had more to them than what appears. This is what started to get me excited. I
believed that their backstory had something to do with the Clutter family. One of the Culprits, Perry
Smith, was in prison before the events in the movie. Perhaps the Clutter family put him there for
crashing a plane on their property of something, I didn t know. Moving on to the events of the
story, the tone and mood also had a similar effect as well. When the two culprits were on their way
to holcomb, they stopped by many places to pick up some supplies. They pick up things like a
rope and black stockings. Those two were used in the crime but the way Capote describes it just
had me thinking. Perry said in a casual tone, You got any black stockings. Capote also said Next
they were interested in rope. Now these two quotes make almost no sense without context but the
context surrounding these two quotes is unusual. The tone used around them is very subtle as if
what they were doing was not gonna end up in the murder of a family. They go around picking
these murder supplies but Capote s

The theory has explained human population evolution relatively well in Europe and other highly
developed countries. Many developing countries have moved into stage 3. The major exceptions
are poor countries, mainly in sub Saharan Africa (Nigeria, Benin, Mali, Niger amongst others) and
some Middle Eastern[ 9] countries, which are poor or affected by government policy or civil strife,
notably Pakistan[ 10], Palestinian Territories[ 11], Yemen[ 12] and Afghanistan[ 13].

Origins of Demographic Transition Theory
The idea of DTT was first advanced by Warren Thompson[ 15] in 1929. He divided the world into
three major groups:
В·Countries with rapidly declining birth and death rates, with fertility declining more rapidly than
mortality, resulting in a declining growth rate (Northern[ 16] and Western Europe[ 17], North
America[ 18] and Australasia[ 19])
В·Countries with declining birth and death rates in certain socio economic strata, with the rate of
decline of the death rate higher than the decline in the birth rate (Central and Southern Europe)
В·Countries with high birth rates but declining death rates (rest of the world)
Frank W. Notestein[ 20] developed this theory in 1945 and suggested that there was a relationship
between population change and industrial development. He suggested that with time, countries go
through a linear evolution from traditional,

How Did Doyle Write The Hound Of The Baskervilles
Arthur Conan Doyle s Beliefs that Impact his Writing Arthur Conan Doyle believed in the
paranormal realms. That belief has helped inspire The Hound of the Baskervilles. In 1901, Doyle
went on a vacation with his friend, Fletcher Robinson, who first told him about the legend of the
hound from Dartmoor, Devonshire (Major 862). In the same year Doyle wrote The Hound of the
Baskervilles, which he called a real creeper based on the legend (Major 862). Sherlock Holmeswas
put in as an afterthought, possibly because of the pressure Doyle felt from fans for Doyle s killing

Impairment In Iowana Essay
Currently, Iowa has some of the worst waters in the nation. The Clean Water Act requires states to
biannually test surface water to determine impairments. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources
defines impairment as A waterbody is impaired when its water quality does not fully support that
waterbody s designated uses for human contact, aquatic life, or drinking water. They note that an
impairment on one part of a stream or river does not necessarily mean that at other points of the
waterbody it is constituted as impaired. The meaning deals with what the waterbody is designated
for and whether it meets the standards set for that use. The amount of Iowa water bodies listed as
impaired is very high, but there are also many bodies that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The options we have available to alleviate this situation are few. One option, considered by many
is simply to do nothing. This is advanced by many who believe that since we can treat the water
we should not be placing any more burden upon our farmers. Most Republicans in the state
legislature believe this is the best idea, because it is better to have the Des Moines Water Works to
have to pay to fix the water than to place costly measure upon farmers and hurt out economy.
However, this option does not fix our increasingly polluted water, and does not help fix the
increasing Dead Zone.
DMWW already tried suing upstream farmers and counties to have their runoff under the Clean
Water Act however, the judge declared that the issue should be left to the state legislature. Those
listed in the lawsuit were farmers located in the counties of Buena Vista, Calhoun, and Sac, each
in Northern Iowa and feeding waters into the Raccoon River. Because this legal action was
thrown out, the judicial approach is an unlikely path for any future policy change in this instance.
Because of the judge s ruling that the legislature is the only way to change this, that means a bill
is how it will have to be fixed. The best option to alleviate farm runoff would be to impose similar
regulations to what the state of Minnesota has done. The

Critique Of Le Suicide By Durkheim
Durkheim saw his primary aim as the construction of a philosophical basis for a science of
sociology, i.e. he wanted to show that sociology could be a rigorous scientific discipline
(Fulcher Scott, 2011). Le Suicide (Durkheim, 1897) is regarded by many as the first empirical
study in sociology; he applied his refined positivistic methodological principles to the study of
suicide and so treated suicide rates as a social fact . This essay will start with a brief outline of
Durkheim s social fact and then go on to take a more comprehensive look at his approach to
studying suicide rates as social facts. This essay will also consider the main critiques of Durkheim s
study on suicide, which manifests itself primarily through the positivist... Show more content on

This definition generated some objections which Jones (1986) clarified, first was the question of at
what point does an action, which results in death, shift from being an accident to a suicide. Jones
argues that this reinforces Durkheim s argument rather than undermine it, that suicides are just an
excessive form of common practices. Secondly, there was an insistence that these acts are
individual rather than social and are therefore a concern of psychology (Jones, 1986). Although
Durkheim acknowledged the viability of studying suicide in psychology he also contended that
suicide could be studied as a social fact sui generis. Having defined suicide, Durkheim then
examined the extra social causes of suicide, determined the nature of the social causes and then set
out to find a more definitive account of suicide aptitude and its relation to social facts (Durkheim,

Primo Levi s If This Is A Man
Primo Levi employs a cool and calculated tone throughout If This Is a Man to emphasize key
moments and gives the reader a peak into what it means to survive the Holocaust. I believe that the
reader was incredibly effective at getting his message across in the book. That despite what you
may think, it was unimaginable what the Jews went through at the hands of the Germans. The book
also gets across that although Levi survived the Holocaust he didn t make it out unscathed.
The detached and scientific tone of this book works remarkably well, making the atrocities even
more unnerving because Levi is so matter of fact about them. However, there are moments
where he allows the reader to feel his pain. In the preface to If This Is a Man, Levi claims that he
was lucky to get deported to Auschwitz in 1944 because Owing to the scarcity of labor, to length
of the average lifespan of the prisoners destined for elimination... temporarily suspended killings of
the at the whims of individuals. This gives the reader an impression that maybe now the conditions
aren t so bad at the camp. However, later in the first chapter Levi describes his arrival at
Auschwitz, saying that only ninety six men and twenty nine women entered Auschwitz and more
than five hundred people from the convoy were killed. The matter of fact tone of the statement is
met with this: This is the reason three year old Emilia died: the historical necessity of killing the
children of Jews was self demonstrative to the Germans . Allowing us a peak of how he may feel
and leaves the reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There are lots of mysteries in the world today. One of these was the finding of an abandoned ship,

book about the Mary Celestewhich leads rumors that lead into other myths. Also Scientist have

abandoned by choice.

On November 5, 1872, Captain Briggs sailed with a crew of eight, and with his wife and two year
old daughter also aboard. They went about a mile from port because of weather. On November 7,
they were sailing again, bound for Genoa, Italy. Their cargo: 1700 barrels of crude alcohol for

On February 15th, 1872, the Mary Celeste was discovered drifting by the crew of the Dei

Identity And Discrimination In Rudali
Review a work of fiction that helped/challenged/encouraged you to reflect on questions of identity
and discrimination . The work of fiction that challenged and encouraged my perceptions on identity
and discrimination is a piece of short fiction called Rudali , written in Bengali by Mahasweta Devi
and translated to English by Anjum Katyal. This text serves as an epitome of class, caste and
gender subalternity in the historic context of brahmanical patriarchy. The protagonist individualises
the discrimination exerted on low caste communities via the triple oppression faced by them under
these structures of society (i.e caste, class and gender) and tries to subvert these hegemonic
structures from within. The title of the book, Rudali ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although in many ways this text can be seen as a radical feminist text, but Devi dismisses the
idea as she is not a feminist. She feels that it is a mere coincidence that some professions are
gendered and doesn t regard women as a separate entity but treats their oppression as linked to a
wider oppressive structure controlled by caste. She thinks that to ignore the latter in the shadow of
the former, is a denial of history . But Usha Ganguli in her introductory text Metamorphosis of
Rudali presents a different view and says that in many ways this could be read as an enabling
feminist text with the empowerement of Sanichri, the bonding between the two characters, the
importance given to household chores, the common experiences of discrimination of women along
class lines and the rare sensitivity expressed by the author towards women in general. Through this
novella, Devi discusses and rethinks questions of class, caste and gender and how such structures
affect women by giving a powerful voice to the gendered subaltern and thus rescuing them from the

Introduction:
As someone who has a fairly unusual writing method, I set out to find other students methods of
writing styles and compare them to mine and each other s to see if my methods are unusual or if
they are actually common among my peers. My survey consisted of five simple questions that
asked about the writing process, the difficulties of writing, and how the process of revision. When
I write, I dive right into the paper; I do not outline, and I do not write with a clear organizational
structure, which comes back to haunt me sometimes. I often just write from the top of my head
and then come back to fix paragraphs that I know are weak. For the most part, my organization is

additional information about my methods of surveying: The survey was printed out on paper and
the respondents answered with a pen on the paper. I asked the respondents to elaborate on their
answers and give me as much information as they were willing; however, since they were my
friends, they did not take my request that seriously. Therefore some answers only respond directly
to the question with little else. This is partially my fault for not creating questions that prompted
more specific responses, and this is an important note to my findings and results.
Data Analysis: To begin the survey analysis, I will start with the results of the first question,

I have currently finished reading the book Leonardo The Artist. The book is made up by three
of Da Vinci s scholars. One part of the book entitled The Painter is by Anna Maria Brizio, the
other part is The Sculptor which is interpreted by Maria Vittoria Brugnoli and the last section is
The Teacher by AndrГ© Chastel. The book is comprised of Da Vinci s notebooks with sketches
and comments on his work in progress; all of which was rediscovered in 1965. The general
purpose for this book is to show Da Vinci s ideology surrounding art and intellectual findings that
contributed to his talent. Leonardo Da Vinciwas more than just a painter. He was also considered a
sculptor and a teacher. He found interest in mathematic, science and nature. This book reveals
how boundless Da Vinci s curiosity was. Da Vinci trained as a painter in the studio of Andrea
Verrocchio. He devoted long hours to the study of nature even on holy days. Da Vinci explored
every branch of science known at his time and proved to many that he was far ahead of his time.
This is exemplified in his precise observations and the value he placed on empirical truth. Da Vinci
states, No human investigation can be called true science without going through mathematical
tests... (page 16) This basically refers to the scientific method.
In sketch after sketch, his notebooks cite his preoccupation with architecture both as an artistic
expression and as a technical problem. In his painting of the town plan of

Reflection About Religion
I Thought Religion was Supposed to be Simple! I remember being a young, naГЇve boy getting

cream as I wanted with no repercussions. Life was going to be amazing! My dreams were soon
shattered as I was bombarded with homework and essays from all my other classes, but there was a
light at the end of the tunnel: Religion. I was especially excited to embark on the journey of
religion as it had always played an important role in my life and I couldn t wait to explore
seemingly endless verses of scripture and prophecy. I sat in my new religion class jittering, for
the long awaited moment had finally come. The professor began class and I was immediately
blind sided by a barrage of essays, readings, and study packets. This couldn t be right! I sat and
listened in horror only to find that my safe haven from homework and stress was being
annihilated and there was nothing I could do but wallow is my disappointment and self doubt.

When Manchester first built its big mechanized cotton machine, it became the leading textile
manufacturing city in the whole world. Much of its population in 1850s was made up with the
working class and immigrants from parts of Britain and even Europe. In 1851, it was granted a
royal charter after Queen Victoria s visit. The Reform Bill granted Manchester representation in
parliament and middle classmen the right to vote. All this was due to the exponential growth of

Similarities Between Batman And The Joker
In today s time and age, I don t think we will come across anyone, who is oblivious of the
legendary pair of a hero and a villain; batman and the joker. Those who haven t read the comics,
must have watched at least a few of the movies that are based on these characters. Batman is seen
as the hero. The jokeris seen as a villain. There are a lot of variations in the stories involving these
two as it has been incarnated a lot times, but their characters remain the same. The relationship
between these two is a representation of yin and yang . Batmanis a depiction of hope. Batmanwas

He is not the traditional villain and that is what makes him eerie and deranged. He is

the story around the bane of his existence is too complicated and often, it is he, who narrates a

The different backgrounds of John, Cornelia, Lou, and Samuel would affect their ability to adjust
to the end of the war. As they stepped across the threshold between the old world and the new
(Ash Location 69), each would experience varying degrees of despair, hope, and restlessness. For
John Robertson, it was his friends, family, and search for spiritual fulfillment that would play a
major role in his ability to adjust. Louis Hughes a slave used the skills he learned as a manservant
from Edmund McGehee, and his unwavering desire to truly become free that greatly helped his
ability to adjust to daily life during and after the war. Cornelia McDonald grew up being waited
on by slaves, but her social status and the few skills she learned would help her to survive on the
verge of poverty and despair. Samuel Agnew had what many at the time would say was a life of
ease, but the war brought a harsh reality to a life he took for granted. Throughout John Robertson
life, it was his friends, family and his search for spiritual fulfillment that would play a major role
in his life. Returning from the war fighting for the Confederates, John would start a new life as a

How To Build Suspense In The Monkey s Paw
Nearly everyone has heard the phrase, Be careful what you wish for. These six simple words
have foreboding connotations, but are not taken seriously because granted wishes belong in
legends. However, those who read The Monkey s Paw by William Wymark Jacobs may
reconsider the saying; the story is terrifying, yet makes enough sense that the reader almost
believes it. These traits terror and near belief are signs of a horror story, but not the only ones. The
Monkeys Paw is a horror story because it meets the most crucial criteria for such a tale.
Suspense is essential to a horror story to keep the reader interested, and The Monkey s Paw has
an abundance of suspense. Much of the suspense comes from the question of whether the monkey
s paw will work, and how. Sergeant Major Morris, who gives the monkey s paw to the White
family, tells them the wishes come true in a way that might be considered a coincidence. Morris
also says another man had three wishes, and his third wish was to die. This shows the monkey s
paw will not grant wishes in a cheerful fairy tale way. Additionally, the reader has to wait almost
half the story before the monkey s paw clearly works. Suspense is also built on ... Show more

An unnatural or paranormal component is also vital to a horror story. Well known horror novels
from many time periods, such as Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, Bram Stoker s Dracula, and
Shirley Jackson s The Haunting of Hill House, all have supernatural components central to their
plots. The monkey s paw is a supernatural element because it was bewitched by a fakir and had a
spell put on it. It can grant wishes and bring people back from the dead, so it does not follow the
laws of nature. Reanimated Herbert, who is never seen, but who knocks on the door, is also a
supernatural aspect of The Monkey s Paw because someone cannot really come back from the

Descriptive Essay On Mother Nature
Mother Nature can be a wicked, wicked woman.
Thanks the weather, farmers and ranchers are really getting hammered this year, and the hits just
seem to keep coming. According to information from the National Centers For Environmental
Information, there have been nearly a dozen weather and climate disaster events (not including
Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, or wildfires) in 2017 where damages have totaled at least a billion
dollars.
Seeing what you have worked so hard for all your life under water, blown away or just simply gone
is a helpless feeling. Farmers and ranchers can rebuild, but it s never the same, and the landscape is
forever altered.
Some of the scariest moments I ve had in my life have been because of the weather. I can remember
storms rolling through and seemed like the roof was going to come off the house. There aren t storm
sirens across the rural landscape in the Ozarks, so you have to hope the TV or radio weatherman
can give you enough warning when dangerous weather approached.
Working at weekly and daily newspapers for many years, I was one of the people chasing the
storms, camera and notebook in hand. It was part of the job, but it was never easy. I remember
following a dozer into a rural area in 2003 after a deadly tornado ripped a path from Cedar to
Camden County. It was my first up close look at the aftermath of a tornado. I have driven into
areas that were under evacuation orders, thinking the whole time I was completely crazy, but I had

Huck Finn Pros And Cons
Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is widely regarded as a classic. It is on a
great majority of high school reading lists due to its themes and significance to American
history. Many famous writers sing praises to this story, with Ernest Hemingway going so far as
to call it one of the first true pieces of Americana. However, with overwhelming praise comes an
absurd amount of backlash at the novel. Even when the book was released, it was pulled from
library shelves, and today it is one of the most banned books in the United States. Many have
criticized the novel over its ending, and more commonly the books usage of racist terms. With that
said, Huckleberry Finn should remain on the high school reading list on account of its historical...

As previously established Huck Finn is a book that is without a doubt made to challenge readers,
its realistic settings and dialects make a reader imagine exactly how these characters speak and
think of what it was like. This makes the commentary on slavery even harder since it s harder to
separate these characters from reality. Censoring the dialogue, particularly offensive phrases
neuters this point and takes an otherwise invested reader out of the story. Michiko Kakutani,
writer for the New York Times says it perfectly in his article about Huck Finn and censorship
when he writes, To censor or redact books on school reading lists is a form of denial: shutting
the door on harsh historical realities whitewashing them or pretending they do not exist
(Kakutani). If we change Huck Finn not only are we breaking investment, but we re spitting on
Twain s grave as he rolls over in it. Or as Spicer, somewhat more eloquently puts it, We read for a
purpose, whether leisurely or intellectually, and authors write for a purpose. If we censor author
s words, we censor their purpose, and their readers minds can never be opened for further
exploration of the world. (Spicer). While some want to change the way Huck Finn is written in
order to make it school friendly, it s worse than banning it, if it s banned it won t create an even
more skewed perception of the time period. But with that said, banning it is also awful and
completely undercuts Twain s work, and thinks that children in a high school setting need to be
spoon fed their information since they can t think for themselves; like they can not think beyond
the surface of a piece of writing. But even with all that people still think this book should be
banned do the racism, the racism in a setting that was filled with

Analysis of Common Foods
Nutter Butter Niacin Niacin is found in its natural form in fish, peanuts, yeast, and grains. In the
milling process of grains, it is usually removed. The government s action of trying to reduce
niacin deficiency has led to the fortification of niacin in food. Fortification is an attempt to
replenish the niacin lost in food processing. Niacin helps the energy from food reach the cells in
the body. It s important to the health of the live and production of hormones. Partially
Hydrogenated cottonseed oil Partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil is oil that has been pressed
from the kernel of the cotton seed. The oil then goes through the process of adding more
hydrogen to the oil. Adding more hydrogen makes the oil have a higher boiling point and also
helps to increase the shelf life of the oil. It is used for mayonnaise, salad dressing, shortening,
and margarine for its neutral flavor and flavor stability. The oil is very high in saturated fat. Soy
lecithin Soy lecithin is a natural stabilizer for emulsifying fats in processed foods. It is known to
create a creamy texture in wet and dry blends and in dressings by solidifying the margarine or fat
in the food. Lecithin is a group of yellow brown fatty acids that come from plant and animals
sources, which contains many important nutrients. Its fat properties are why it is used in various

Government Duty Research Paper
In America, there are five duties required of every citizen. They are obeying the law, paying
taxes, attending school, serving in court, and defending the nation. While defending the nation
and serving in court are important, obeying the law, paying taxes, and attending school are more
important as they make sure that there is even a nation worth defending. Citizens obeying the
law is vital to a country s survival. If a country s citizens didn t obey the same set of laws, then
the country would quickly unravel. Every person in a country adhering to their own set of laws
would lead to increased danger and ability for discrimination. For example, if the speed limit on
a highway is 75 mph in a country where everyone obeys the law, car accidents would be few and
far between but in a country where people don t care about the law, car accidents would happen
significantly more due to people going whatever speed they pleased. Likewise, if a law states that

The Success Of An Organization Or Business Process
Are you tired of smiling and nodding when someone talks about these concepts because you sort of
get what they are but not really?
You re not alone.
Those of us in the industry who live and breathe this stuff meet people every day who have no idea
what we do and why it s important to the success of an organization or business.
Q. OK, so what is a Business Process?
A. Pretty much everything you do at work.
It s true! Everything is a process, whether you know it or not. It can be formally documented or
just live in the experience and know how of your employees, but trust us there are processes all
around you.
Think of it this way.

When we say business process, we are referring to processes that happen every day at work in
order to achieve a specific outcome. Do these sound familiar? What steps do you think apply to
each?
Recruitment
Performance evaluations
Customer service
Strategic planning
Approvals
Each of these processes (and dozens of others) happens every single day in most businesses, and if
you re lucky, they are smooth and efficient and wonderful and everything goes well all of the time
and all your employees and customers are happy with them.
Q. So Business Process Improvement then, is just making things run more smoothly at work?
A. Yes! It s also about making those improvements with a specific end in mind:
Improving customer satisfaction,
Making employees happier,
Improving efficiency (getting more done, and with less resources)
Saving time, and/or
Improving the bottom line.
When we undertake business process improvement, we do so because something is wrong, and we
have noticed a trigger of some sort.
Q.What sort of trigger?
A. It could be so many things. Let s use an example to illustrate.
Let s talk about your car. If you don t own a car, just pretend you do (and since you re pretending,
you can make it the car of your dreams while you re at it. Go ahead and get fancy!)
Driving your car is a process:

Sit in driver s seat.
Put key in ignition.
Start car.
Check mirrors.
Place foot on brake.
Put car in gear.

How did Bass fishing become a sport?
Fishing has always been a way to collect food, but did you know how it became a competitive
sport? It all started with a game of basketball. I am sure you are thinking to yourself; a game of
basketball is how fishing tournaments came about?
It all started with a man by the name of Ray Scott in 1968. While watching a basketball game he
thought of the idea of competitive Bass fishing. He than began to brainstorm ideas and write down
the rules of fishing tournaments. Later that year, he held the first All American Bass Tournament.
After that tournament, competitive Bass fishing took off like a 10 pound Bass taking away your

that s causes traffic jams. There are several reasons for the severity of this issue. Congestion
causes a lot of delays in the city. It is unlikely that people are on time for anything, even if they

This pollution increases health risks by introducing people to harmful toxins released by cars,
specifically in the asthmatic population. Hence, one can see the problems associated with traffic
congestion and pollution. There are several ways to counteract the problem of traffic congestion

decrease the number of cars on the road. One plausible way would be to promote and offer
alternative methods of transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis. If people used more
public transportation there would be fewer cars on the road, less congestion, and less traffic

and tunnels, people would be much less inclined to drive to the city and as a result there would
be less traffic congestion and pollution. Gridlock is a major cause of traffic problems in
Manhattan. If we were to implement more severe fines for blocking intersections, people would
not try to beat the light, in effect decreasing overall congestion. A third approach to try and
resolve this issue would be to change some one way streets to two way streets. Doing this would
allow easier access to destinations and would eliminate indirect route taking. As a result, overall
pollution would decrease. These are some of the methods that would be viable in decreasing

There are for example different techniques to twist the yarns or types of finishing. Thread can also
differ in size, tenacity, loop or breaking strength and color fastness (YIL Corporation, n.d./2010).
This means thread can be differentiated easily, to satisfy customers needs and wishes. It is also
important to emphasize that without differentiation the consumers are in the position to make a
trade off in quality by switching to a company from an emerging country, like China, to get much
lower prices due to local and undervalued labor costs (Athukorala, 2007). To sum it up, the
industrial thread industry within the EEA is very competitive. The only striking factor is the
production of a differentiated product which can be explained by the increasing competition from
the East. The damage by the cartels can therefore be estimated to be very extensive, so it is now
interesting to investigate what agreements were made by the cartel members.
2.2 The Agreements
A competitive market is what an economy should strive for. It maximizes total welfare and
benefits all parties. The textile industry itself is very competitive, so that it is impossible for
individual firms to generate additional economic profits in the long run. Some companies would
therefore find it very beneficial to coordinate their actions. For example they could reduce the
quantity supplied, so that the market price would rise artificially. In the thread market there were
two kinds of agreements

large gates. Dante hears screams from souls that were damned and rejected by God, but also not

Tormented by flies and hornets on a furious pace forever, the souls are held captive by these large
gates. Crossing through the gates, Dante and Virgilare met by the boatman Charon at the windy

Analyzing Epicurus Letter To Menoecceous
In Letter to Menoecceous, Epicurus outlines the view that life should be and is about maximizing
ones own pleasure. Epicurus importantly notes that pleasure is not necessarily one of a lavish
lifestyle, but where pain is absent in body and soul (Epicurus (1), p. 32). This overarching notion
filters into his ethical philosophies; in the way that one is and should be just while maintaining the
aim of maximizing pleasure. This essay aims to explain the reasons behind Epicurusview that one s
life can maintain justice while focusing on pleasure.
Epicurus empathizes being just does not disrupt the aim to maximize pleasure by defining justice
and thus claiming that lack of restriction would increase suffering and outweigh the good so, in

Cyber Crime Prevention Is Not Only A Continuing Problem
Applications
Cyber Crime Prevention
Internet security is not only a continuing problem, but an increasing one. Yet, many companies do
not have adequate internet security measures in place. To help businesses thwart cyber criminals
operating over the internet, several steps are recommended. First, before deciding to use the internet
for business purposes, organizations should articulate how they intend to use the internet (e.g., e
commerce; marketing web site; communication with business partners, customers, suppliers). Once
this information is articulated, the company should next assess what risks are associated with each
of the uses. Risks are the quantifiable likelihood that a financial investment will result in loss for
the investor. A high riskinvestment is associated with both a higher probability of loss and a
possibility of greater return on investment. Risk assessment is the process of determining the
potential loss and probability of loss of the organization s objectives.
In doing risk assessment, the organization needs to take into account the probability of various
types of cyber attacks and the cost to the organization if these attacks occur. Potential costs could
result from computer downtime, loss of data, loss of reputation in the marketplace, or even law suits
in reaction to preventable theft of identity or other information. A number of risks can occur as a
result of cybercrime including destruction of data, interference with business operations,

Hepatic Irradiation
5.3.2 Markers of radiation induced hepatic injury
Of the liver enzymes that showed elevations in their serum concentrations following irradiation in
the current study, only the early increase in the AST level was significant (Fig. 9). ALT is also a
marker of hepatic damage, and it is found exclusively in the cytoplasm of cells. In contrast, AST is
present in the cytoplasm, which comprises 20% of its total activity, and in the mitochondria, which
comprises 80% of its total activity (Rej 1989). While the recruited granulocytes and the gamma
irradiation could damage some periportal hepatocytes, irradiation treatment may have a more
damaging effect on the numerous large mitochondria that reside within the hepatocytes, which

cells because irradiating these cells in vitro did not upregulate chemokine gene expression (Gaugler

that is, the hepatic stellate cells, differ from the Thy 1+ mesenchymal cells in the portal vessels

Taking a Look at Cochlear Implants
Sometimes people forget that eyesight and hearing are not something that everybody has. There
are some people in the world that are living without one or both of these senses. In some
circumstances, these two senses are able to be given to somebody who hasn t had them before.
There are many different procedures and ways for a person to either gain their eyesight or hearing
again, for the first time in their life. In terms of hearing, there is a procedure that is booming
popularity all over the world. Along with having the surgery, the patient then wears a device called
a cochlear implant. Cochlear Implants are changing the world of hearing so that people who
receive them are able to gain hearing ability to sounds around them. This partially unknown
medical procedure is gaining more attention around the world with its high success rates and its
ability to change peoples lives forever. According to the National Institute on Deafness and
Other Communication Disorders Website, a cochlear implant is defined as a small, complex
electronic device that can help provide a sense of sound to someone who is profoundly deaf or
severely hard of hearing. The first cochlear implant demonstration was in Paris in the 1950 s done
by AndrГ© Djourno and Charles EryiГ©s. Records say that it took over 50 years of discovering
and making these devices until one succeeded. Once they had built one that worked, Djourno and
EryiГ©s conducted their first operation by putting a gold wire

Richard III a Tyrant as King Essay
Richard III a Tyrant as King Throughout history, this very title has been disputed and the
outcome has remained debatable to this very day. Richard, Duke of York had remained loyal to
his brother, Edward IV throughout his years of reign, and had been well rewarded for his
support, he became the Duke of Gloucester. In marrying Anne Neville, daughter of Earl of
Warwick, he had inherited mass amounts of Neville land in the north of England after both the
Earl and Anne died. He was respected within the northern parts of England and provided land for
his friends. He was an able man who showed signs of being an efficient king amidst the
preoccupations of the rebellions, sadly he went about it the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The manner, in which Richard moved for authority, seems to put forward that he was the tyrant
of Shakespeare s play. He also professed that he had been informed, by a Bishop, of how Edward
had been betrothed to a woman by the name of Eleanor Boteles, before his marriage to Elizabeth
in 1464. This therefore proved the marriage was invalid and the children were bastards. There
was no evidence to contradict Richard, as both Edward and Eleanor were dead, she had died a
number of years before the story came out. With all other claimants to the throne dead, Richard
was the rightful heir. Richard s seizure of the throne could also be seen as ambitious, or overly
ambitious, and this cost him support. On becoming king, he had shared southern land between
his northern supporters, loosing all trust and loyalty from the south. When Richard arrived in
London he quickly on the spot killed Lord Hastings. He moved him to take out the support for
his nephew, Edward V, as Lord Hastings had been possibly Edward V biggest supporter. Richard
later said it was due to the fact that Hastings had been scheming himself to take the crown. But by
killing Hatings on the spot seems a dictatorial act with both this act and the manner that Richard
took the crown does not help to improve the view of Richard III. Richard had the two princes taken

The Creations Of One Of My Favourite Interior Designers
In this assignment, I chose to discuss the creations of one of my favourite interior designers,
Zeynep Fadillioglu because I adore the way she fuses the Western and Eastern traditions, designs
and culture. As she is Turkish, her designs are a mixture of our heritage, the Ottoman Empire, with
the contemporary world today. I will use my knowledge and combine it with research I have found
online, in books and from the press she has received by her wondrous architecture pieces.
Through my research, I have learnt that the materials typically used for a minbar in a mosque is
iron, as its easily carved to any shape or form. Furthermore, the colour gold is highly used to give
off a Royal Ottoman aura because it illustrates wealth and prosperity, ... Show more content on

The Ottomans accomplished the most elevated amount design in their territories henceforth or
since. They aced the strategy of building inconceivable internal spaces limited by apparently
weightless yet huge domes, and accomplishing immaculate concordance amongst inward and
external spaces, and additionally verbalized light and shadow.
Islamic religious architecture which until then comprised of straightforward structures with broad
adornments, was changed by the Ottomans through an element compositional vocabulary of domes,
arches, semi domes and sections. The mosque was changed from being a confined and dim
chamber with arabesque secured dividers into a haven of tasteful and specialised equalisation,
refined style and an insight of glorious amazing quality.
One of my favourite interior design of hers is the Hotel Les Ottomans located in Istanbul, Turkey
because I have always loved the Ottoman culture, tradition and especially the designs as I have
grown up with them being Turkish. I love how she fuses the contemporary and the traditional
designs to create a very unique look. I feel like not many people succeed when trying to combine
these elements as it can be very difficult to do. Although the interiors could look quite cluttered,
she achieves to make them look really elegant and luxurious. For example, in Figure 3. the room is
full of detail and precision. There s decorative columns, a detailed ceiling, heavy curtains, patterned

Sarah feels totally confident as she looks over her lines for the final time before the curtain

expect this many! She starts to feel a tingle, a tingle in the back of her neck. It spreads down her

If an actor finds herself getting extremely nervous or if the attempt at raising her self confidence
does not work, she can try to calm herself down by thinking of things that make her happy and
excited. These thoughts take the mind away from what is going on and soothe the actor into a more
calm state suitable for performance.
Sarah closed her eyes and tried thinking of different things that could possibly calm her down. She
thought of her dog back at home and how he would run after the tennis ball she threw; she thought
of her friends and all the fun they had when they went dancing. Sarah grew a big smile on her face
until she suddenly heard someone from the stage calling Juliet! She opened her eyes and jumped
up. It was only her name being stated, not her cue. She was relieved.
Smiling in relief, Sarah looked back out on stage. She saw the actors and saw the audience, and
began feeling that tingling sensation in her hands once again and immediately sat back down.
She tried closing her eyes and thinking of those happy times as she did before, but it did not help
anymore, she was too startled from hearing her name. She got up and paced back and forth back
stage trying to think of what she was taught to do in this situation, What am I going to do? she
asked herself, What am I going to do?
Sarah remembered what one of her teachers had told her... the main cause of stage fright is anxiety
(which she tried overcoming earlier).

Essay On Larry Bird
Indiana loves its basketball. When driving throughout the state, basketball hoops are part of the
scenery, dotting thousands of barn doors, garage doors, and driveways along the way. Hoosiers are
passionate about this sport. In the book, Drive the Story of my Life, by Larry Bird with Bob Ryan,
talks about his life growing up in Indiana and his storied career as a basketballplayer. Bird was born
into a hard working, lower class family in West Baden Springs, Indiana. Throughout his life Larry
Bird was fueled by hard work and perseverance to become one of the greatest basketball players of

The Boston Celtics had 29 wins the season before they drafted Bird. The team improved by 32
games to go 61 21 in Bird s first season. The main reason they won so many more games was
because of Larry Bird. Bird was not just a shooter, he was also a great passer and rebounder too,
which in turn made his teammates better as a whole. In his second year in the NBA, Bird and
Celtics won the NBA Championship against the Houston Rockets. Larry Bird would go on to
win two more championships with the Celtics. He would also win the Most Valuable Player
award three times. This is what Larry Bird said after his second Most Valuable Player award, While
I was still trying to figure out how I could improve my game for the next season, I was notified that
I had been selected as the league MVP for the second year in a row (Bird and Ryan 153). Larry Bird
after being in the league for seven years and winning two straight MVPs was still trying to find
ways to get better. Bird proved that perseverance and dedication to the sport he loved would lead

Characteristics Of Natives In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of...
Belgium While in Belgium, Kurtz starts off thinking that going to Africa to work for the Company
is a great idea. However, after he hears about the story of the previous commissioned captain,
Fresleven, being killed by the Natives there, he feels a bit uneasy.
The Congo The Congo, which fascinated Marlow as a kid, serves as a very dangerous location in
Heart of Darkness. This is the location in which the Natives attacked and where, so much fog
existed that it would be too dangerous to move the steamer. As a result, the Marlow and the
pilgrims acted uneasy in this setting.
On the steamer While on the steamer, Marlow acts braver and does not show much emotion.
When the Helmsmen died, he saw him as foolish rather than showing remorse. Additionally, he
easily scared off the attack by blowing a whistle. This is logical because Marlow emphasizes how
much he loves the sea and traveling to places. He ignores other problems and focuses on main
goals while on the steamer. As for the pilgrims, they became very interested in Kurtz and wanted to
see him when he died

The Inequality Of Social Classes
America is referred to as a molting pot, which means that it has a variety of ethnic cultures and
backgrounds that are unified. Though America may be diverse, there is still a huge factor that
separates people and prevents those from becoming an equal. That discrepancy is the iniquity in
social classes. On September of 2011, Matt Wuerker a political cartoonist for Politico, published
Kitchen Tables that highlighted the injustice in social classes. It is a cartoon that consist of three
different drawings of kitchen tables that Americans sit around: a luxurious upper class, an average
middle class, and a deprived underclass. Wuerker used unequal proportion between each of the
drawings size to represent the iniquity within social classes. He not only gave the upper class
half of the paper, but he also labeled it the top 1% . Wuerker even used colors that symbolized
the meaning of the political cartoon. The upper class has an elegant golden table, with a purple
shadow casting underneath it. The middle class has a green table, with a dirt green background.
The underclass has a rusty bucket that is flipped upside down for a table, with a somber blue
background. Wuerker used wit to display a serious message that is effecting people throughout
America. Matt Wuerker used numerous ways that exemplifies the message he is trying to get
across, and each of those make it an effective political cartoon for the minority of the Americans
that can relate to it. It is natural for humans

Why Shouldn T The Gold Standard Be Legalized
The one item that people obsess about day in and day out is money. Our currency runs the world
and the choices we make. However, before the standard federal reserve notes, gold was used in
exchange for goods. The gold standard was created, but then it was abandoned; it is still debated
today whether or not the gold standard will ever return. The gold standard was created to
standardize transactions in the trade market. According to econlib.org, The United States...switched
to gold de facto [a gold standard adopted by England] in 1834...when Congress passed the Gold
Standard Act. This new moneymethod, which guaranteed that the government would redeem any
amount of paper money for its value in gold, allowed for people to purchase items without carrying

  • 2. Ragtime Analysis Alex Jackel Mrs. Mcfarland AP Language and Composition 3 October 2017 Ragtime Essay Present in the different novels of E.L. Doctorow are many themes, ranging from the impact of technology on society to the drastic effects of war. All of his books have something in common: the prevalence of the American dream. The United States of America was founded around the fact that anybody can come here and succeed with the right amount of effort. Ironically, the people that praise the United States oppress blacks and other minorities so that they cannot succeed. In E.L. Doctorow s Ragtime, Booker T. Washington advocates the abandonment of the pursuit of the American dream by illustrating the sacrifices that many African Americans were willing to make to obtain racial peace. The famous, black, nineteenth century politician Booker T. Washington plays a large role in Ragtime. An actual quote from Washington in 1894 reads that he was indeed willing to give up the demand for racial equality as well as political and civil rights in order to achieve the dream of racial peace. Washington advocated that something had to be exchanged for racial harmony. Although Washington clashed with other civil rights activists such as W.E.B. Dubois, and seemingly accepted segregation, he was nonetheless recognized for his movement to promote racial peace among African Americans. The foremost black educator and institution builder of his time was completely willing to have blacks remain subordinate to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Advantages Of Privatization Of Water Introduction The case discussed in this paper is that of whether water should be privatized or be a public asset. Nestle s chairman and former CEO Peter Brabeck states that water is not a right and it should be privatized as it is raw materials. Water is needed for everything, and all human beings and animals need it in order to live. Privatizing water is just another way of stealing. Water cannot be privatized and owned by private corporations whose only concern is to increase their profits. Counterarguments There are several counterarguments from proponents of privatization of water. The proponents of water privatization state that by having the private sector in charge of the distribution would make the process more efficient than the public sector doing so. There s no specific study and this cannot be predicted accurately as this has not happened previously. However, the distribution system has already been set up by the public sector and also the public sector has been handling the operations for years which equates to more experience in the field than other private companies would have. Another argument proponents of water privatization have is that they believe that it would cost less if the private sector took charge of the distribution of water. There s a wrong idea that shifting the burden from the public sector to the private sector taxpayers would pay less as the company would repair, maintain and upgrade the infrastructure. However, that is not the case. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rochester School District Abstract The provision of resources to handicapped children is subject to a wide variety of federal and state laws and statutes. However, due the varied and spectacular range of disabilities and combination of disabilities it is often difficult to easily decide who should receive benefits and who should not. Often debated both within the court system, and without, is the subject of whether the child with a severe disability can actually benefit from the services and resources being allocated to that student. Timothy W. V. Rochester School District addresses just that issue referred to as Zero Reject. Timothy W. V. Rochester School District The Case Timothy W., Plaintiff, Appellant, v.... As such, children with severe disabilities who are perceived to be uneducable due to the severity of their condition are not withheld the educational services granted their peers of lesser disability. • 5. Female Relationships Between Female And Male Conversations As the laugh they all laughed, and the joke they all told, and the secrets they all shared. Female and Male friends are similar and distinctive in so many ways. But one thing they share among each other is their friendship. Such Conversations, Activities and personalities are displayed differently between maleand females. It is evident that femaleand male conversations differ from each other. Females can hold a conversation on the phone for hours and not run out of things to say, beginning from gossip, to chattering about crushes, then on continuing to compliment each other for supportive reasons, later comes down to being called the word Thick . Females sometimes don t realize how much we need us women in each other s life. For instance, we require each other for support, love, and the basic everyday drama which include going through menstrual cycles that men naturally can t comprehend. On the other hand, males can barely last an hour when holding a conversation on the phone. Male conversations are usually more of a straight forward approach, they say what they discuss what they need to discuss and dismiss the conversation. Money, sex, drugs, and not to mention sports of all things is usually the topic on a day to day basis as I ve grown up all my life in a male household. Males tend not to get too emotional when they converse with other males, however when having conversations with females, they can conversate for hours and hours. Both male and female have the ... Explain The Achievements Of The Federalist Era The Federalist Era is the period of time from about 1788 to about 1801, beginning with the ratification of the Constitution and ending with Jefferson s inauguration as President of the United States. The Federalist Era is characterized by how the Federalist Party took over and transformed politics in the United States. The Federalist Era brought about quite a few achievements in failures. During the Federalist Era, there were a lot of achievements in the United States. First of all, the Federalist Era arguably began with the adoption of the United States Constitution. The Federalists, who later became the Federalist Party, were the supporters of ratifying the Constitution. Anti Federalists did not support the ratification of the Constitution... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, an event known as the Whiskey Rebellion occurred during the Federalist Era. In Pennsylvania, farmers used corn to produce whiskey in order to utilize more useful modes of storage and transportation. In Hamilton s plan of tariffs and taxes, there was an excise tax on whiskey produced in the United States. The tax triggered violent protests from farmers in Pennsylvania. George Washington used executive power to put down the rebellion. In addition, the rebellion caused a deeper division between political parties. Second of all, the Federalist Era is characterized by resistance from the opposing Democratic Republican Party. The Democratic Republican Party began with Thomas Jefferson s resignation from Washington s cabinet due to decisions on Federalist policy. Jefferson especially disagreed with Alexander Hamilton s decisions on finances. By the end of the Washington presidency, the partition between loose and strict constructionists had transformed into two political parties. The loose constructionists became the Federalist Party and the strict constructionists became the Democratic Republican Party. • 7. Examples Of Princess Cimorene In Dealing With Dragons In the novel, Dealing With Dragons, by Patricia C. Wrede, Princess Cimorene was justified in dismissing the social standards of her day because in the novel, she escapes from her previous life as a proper princess, to soon enjoy her new life as princess to the King of Dragons, as well as saving their kind from corruption by the dragon, Woraug, and the wizards. At the beginning of the novel, Cimorene is shown disregarding the activities that her parents allow her to do. The activities chosen for Cimorene are standard things for princesses such as herself, but she wants to do something more fun and exciting, creating an interesting juxtaposition between her and her sisters. Embroidery lessons, and dancing, and and being a princess! My dear Cimorene! the fairy said, shocked. It s your heritage! It s boring. Furthermore, Cimorene literally says that she loathes being a princess because of how monotonous everything is. Her fairy godmother is shocked by Cimorene s choices, not sure how to help her with her problem. Cimorene was supposed to be like her sisters, but she came out obedient instead, defying while also going below their standards. Secondly, Cimorene repeatedly managed to get out of her recommended activities to sneak herself into the lessons she wants, like cooking. Cimorene s parents constantly had to manually stop her from doing these activities that she chose. The same thing happened over the Latin lessons from the court philosopher, the cooking lessons ... • 8. The Qur An Analysis In the battle for gender parity, those who stand guard at the gate posts of Muslim status quo have sometimes reacted vehemently against claims for justice. (xviii) In this quote, Amina Wadud highlights her quest for proving the Qur an is an ungendered text and discusses types of reactions to her book Qur an and Women. Wadud s book, published in 1992, redefines the way the Qur anic text views women and is the genesis of more scholarly works and discussions on the topic of women. Wadud is the most influential woman scholar of the Qur an in history. Her purpose is to solely look at the Qur anic text itself and not the hadith or Islamic traditions that have evolved since it s revelation. She is clear to state that if the equality between males... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She proves this through the discussion about the Arabic terms nafs and zawj. Nafs can be translated to mean self, and though it holds a feminine gendering conceptually it can be seen as neutral (19). Zawj is typically translated as spouse and though it holds a male gendering is also seen as neutral (20). The Qur an states that a nafs was created and from that nafs its pair or zawj was also created (22). Wadud emphasizes that the zawj highlights the pairing nature of the creation story. Though the creation story does not have much material about the zawj, the duality of the nafs and zawj as a pair is repeatedly emphasized in many verses (21). The Qur an does establish that there is an intentional male/female pair yet it only difference it emphasizes is the biological function of the mother (21 22). Therefore nafs and zawj cannot be translated to specifically mean a male nafs and a female zawj (20). With this point Wadud argues that the creation story is gender neutral and does not emphasize male ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Truman Capote s The Cold Blood Jonathan Hernandez C.L.I.M Mrs. Annesley AP English Lang Comp 10 August 2017 In Cold Blood Reflection Paper The novel In Cold Blood by Truman Capote is truly a very intriguing piece of literature. Based on a true story, the events of the novel follow the homicide of a loving family who are brutally murdered in a single night and tensions within the community rise as the real culprits are being searched for. Now the plot of the story isn t what makes this an extraordinary piece, it s the tone and mood that Capote uses to describe certain events, characters, and even settings. When it was revealed in the story that the reason for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he describes the Clutter family the mood is happy and joyful and his tone is almost like he is over praising them as a family. This is because the Clutter family was seen as a perfect family that had nothing wrong with ait and everyone got along with very well. Now for the two culprits it was different. The tone and mood he used seemed to be pretty personal to both characters, as if they had more to them than what appears. This is what started to get me excited. I believed that their backstory had something to do with the Clutter family. One of the Culprits, Perry Smith, was in prison before the events in the movie. Perhaps the Clutter family put him there for crashing a plane on their property of something, I didn t know. Moving on to the events of the story, the tone and mood also had a similar effect as well. When the two culprits were on their way to holcomb, they stopped by many places to pick up some supplies. They pick up things like a rope and black stockings. Those two were used in the crime but the way Capote describes it just had me thinking. Perry said in a casual tone, You got any black stockings. Capote also said Next they were interested in rope. Now these two quotes make almost no sense without context but the context surrounding these two quotes is unusual. The tone used around them is very subtle as if what they were doing was not gonna end up in the murder of a family. They go around picking these murder supplies but Capote s ... • 12. How Did Doyle Write The Hound Of The Baskervilles Arthur Conan Doyle s Beliefs that Impact his Writing Arthur Conan Doyle believed in the paranormal realms. That belief has helped inspire The Hound of the Baskervilles. In 1901, Doyle went on a vacation with his friend, Fletcher Robinson, who first told him about the legend of the hound from Dartmoor, Devonshire (Major 862). In the same year Doyle wrote The Hound of the Baskervilles, which he called a real creeper based on the legend (Major 862). Sherlock Holmeswas put in as an afterthought, possibly because of the pressure Doyle felt from fans for Doyle s killing Holmes (Major 862). • 13. Impairment In Iowana Essay Currently, Iowa has some of the worst waters in the nation. The Clean Water Act requires states to biannually test surface water to determine impairments. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources defines impairment as A waterbody is impaired when its water quality does not fully support that waterbody s designated uses for human contact, aquatic life, or drinking water. They note that an impairment on one part of a stream or river does not necessarily mean that at other points of the waterbody it is constituted as impaired. The meaning deals with what the waterbody is designated for and whether it meets the standards set for that use. The amount of Iowa water bodies listed as impaired is very high, but there are also many bodies that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The options we have available to alleviate this situation are few. One option, considered by many is simply to do nothing. This is advanced by many who believe that since we can treat the water we should not be placing any more burden upon our farmers. Most Republicans in the state legislature believe this is the best idea, because it is better to have the Des Moines Water Works to have to pay to fix the water than to place costly measure upon farmers and hurt out economy. However, this option does not fix our increasingly polluted water, and does not help fix the increasing Dead Zone. DMWW already tried suing upstream farmers and counties to have their runoff under the Clean Water Act however, the judge declared that the issue should be left to the state legislature. Those listed in the lawsuit were farmers located in the counties of Buena Vista, Calhoun, and Sac, each in Northern Iowa and feeding waters into the Raccoon River. Because this legal action was thrown out, the judicial approach is an unlikely path for any future policy change in this instance. Because of the judge s ruling that the legislature is the only way to change this, that means a bill is how it will have to be fixed. The best option to alleviate farm runoff would be to impose similar regulations to what the state of Minnesota has done. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critique Of Le Suicide By Durkheim Durkheim saw his primary aim as the construction of a philosophical basis for a science of sociology, i.e. he wanted to show that sociology could be a rigorous scientific discipline (Fulcher Scott, 2011). Le Suicide (Durkheim, 1897) is regarded by many as the first empirical study in sociology; he applied his refined positivistic methodological principles to the study of suicide and so treated suicide rates as a social fact . Secondly, there was an insistence that these acts are individual rather than social and are therefore a concern of psychology (Jones, 1986). Although Durkheim acknowledged the viability of studying suicide in psychology he also contended that suicide could be studied as a social fact sui generis. Having defined suicide, Durkheim then examined the extra social causes of suicide, determined the nature of the social causes and then set out to find a more definitive account of suicide aptitude and its relation to social facts (Durkheim, 1897; Jones, ... Primo Levi s If This Is A Man Primo Levi employs a cool and calculated tone throughout If This Is a Man to emphasize key moments and gives the reader a peak into what it means to survive the Holocaust. I believe that the reader was incredibly effective at getting his message across in the book. That despite what you may think, it was unimaginable what the Jews went through at the hands of the Germans. The book also gets across that although Levi survived the Holocaust he didn t make it out unscathed. The detached and scientific tone of this book works remarkably well, making the atrocities even more unnerving because Levi is so matter of fact about them. However, there are moments where he allows the reader to feel his pain. In the preface to If This Is a Man, Levi claims that he was lucky to get deported to Auschwitz in 1944 because Owing to the scarcity of labor, to length of the average lifespan of the prisoners destined for elimination... temporarily suspended killings of the at the whims of individuals. This gives the reader an impression that maybe now the conditions aren t so bad at the camp. However, later in the first chapter Levi describes his arrival at Auschwitz, saying that only ninety six men and twenty nine women entered Auschwitz and more than five hundred people from the convoy were killed. The work of fiction that challenged and encouraged my perceptions on identity and discrimination is a piece of short fiction called Rudali , written in Bengali by Mahasweta Devi and translated to English by Anjum Katyal. This text serves as an epitome of class, caste and gender subalternity in the historic context of brahmanical patriarchy. She thinks that to ignore the latter in the shadow of the former, is a denial of history . Michiko Kakutani, writer for the New York Times says it perfectly in his article about Huck Finn and censorship when he writes, To censor or redact books on school reading lists is a form of denial: shutting the door on harsh historical realities whitewashing them or pretending they do not exist (Kakutani). If we change Huck Finn not only are we breaking investment, but we re spitting on Twain s grave as he rolls over in it. Or as Spicer, somewhat more eloquently puts it, We read for a purpose, whether leisurely or intellectually, and authors write for a purpose. If we censor author s words, we censor their purpose, and their readers minds can never be opened for further exploration of the world. (Spicer). While some want to change the way Huck Finn is written in order to make it school friendly, it s worse than banning it, if it s banned it won t create an even more skewed perception of the time period. But with that said, banning it is also awful and completely undercuts Twain s work, and thinks that children in a high school setting need to be spoon fed their information since they can t think for themselves; like they can not think beyond the surface of a piece of writing. But even with all that people still think this book should be banned do the racism, the racism in a setting that was filled with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Citizens obeying the law is vital to a country s survival. If a country s citizens didn t obey the same set of laws, then the country would quickly unravel. Every person in a country adhering to their own set of laws would lead to increased danger and ability for discrimination. Congestion occurs when there is overcrowding on roadways that s causes traffic jams. There are several reasons for the severity of this issue. Congestion causes a lot of delays in the city. It is unlikely that people are on time for anything, even if they planned ahead. With traffic in the city the way it is, you can t blame them. The indirect effect of congestion is traffic pollution. This pollution increases health risks by introducing people to harmful toxins released by cars, specifically in the asthmatic population. Hence, one can see the problems associated with traffic congestion and pollution. There are several ways to counteract the problem of traffic congestion and pollution. Firstly, the most practical solution to New York Citys congestion problem is to decrease the number of cars on the road. One plausible way would be to promote and offer alternative methods of transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis. If people used more public transportation there would be fewer cars on the road, less congestion, and less traffic pollution. Another alternative would be to increase toll prices. By increasing tolls on bridges and tunnels, people would be much less inclined to drive to the city and as a result there would be less traffic congestion and pollution. Gridlock is a major cause of traffic problems in Manhattan. If we were to implement more severe fines for blocking intersections, people would not try to beat the light, in effect decreasing overall congestion. A third approach to try and resolve this issue would be to change some one way streets to two way streets. Doing this would allow easier access to destinations and would eliminate indirect route taking. As a result, overall pollution would decrease. It is also important to emphasize that without differentiation the consumers are in the position to make a trade off in quality by switching to a company from an emerging country, like China, to get much lower prices due to local and undervalued labor costs (Athukorala, 2007). To sum it up, the industrial thread industry within the EEA is very competitive. Yet, many companies do not have adequate internet security measures in place. To help businesses thwart cyber criminals operating over the internet, several steps are recommended. First, before deciding to use the internet for business purposes, organizations should articulate how they intend to use the internet (e.g., e commerce; marketing web site; communication with business partners, customers, suppliers). Once this information is articulated, the company should next assess what risks are associated with each of the uses. Risks are the quantifiable likelihood that a financial investment will result in loss for the investor. A high riskinvestment is associated with both a higher probability of loss and a possibility of greater return on investment. Risk assessment is the process of determining the potential loss and probability of loss of the organization s objectives. In doing risk assessment, the organization needs to take into account the probability of various types of cyber attacks and the cost to the organization if these attacks occur. Ceramics are made from organic and non metallic and are mixed with graphite, diamond, carbon, barium CostThe cost of manufacturing products from metals is the most expensive. Also, the process for metals with higher melting temperature will be more expensive as more energy is required in order to melt them. The cost of manufacturing products from ceramics is quite reasonable and is much cheaper the manufacturing products from metals. Also, the process of manufacturing is much shorter and easier them the process of metals. Amount of time takenThe amount of time taken depends on the process used for manufacturing. Usually the products made by sand casting take the longest as the process is very long. The longest section in this process is the part of making the mould. The amount of time taken depends on the type of process used (e.g. Slip casting, ceramic shell casting etc.) but the overall time taken to manufacture products from ceramic is less as compared to that to metals.
