What is go girl go for IT?
Go Girl Go for IT is a two-day educational event designed to
encourage secondary school girls in years 8-11 to consider IT
as a career option.
The presenters:
Speakers came from development, project management, risk
and security, sales, higher education, engineering and a range
of other technical and business related ICT roles. Each speaker
enthused the participants with their own stories about the enormous variety of roles in
ICT, the benefits of ICT careers, their own differing pathways to their current roles, how
they shape their world working in ICT and more importantly, busted some of the myths
about ICT not being suitable for girls and being a solitary job.
The participants:
Some 732 girls and their teachers attended the event over 2 days, and they came from:
• the North (Wodonga Vic, 321km, 3.5 hrs)
• the East (Maffra, 220km, 3 hrs), and
• the South (Mt Eliza, 62.5km, 1 hr)
• the West (Mt Gambier SA, 442km, 5.5 hrs)
Thanks to the support of our wonderful sponsors, 33 schools received travel grants to
cover the cost of bus transportation to the event.

• 100% of teachers and 94% of students had a
positive impression of the day
• Only 38% of students considered IT an option
before the event, now 95% are at least a little bit
interested in IT after the event
• 72% of students would consider a career in IT after attending the event
• 40% are now likely to investigate a career in IT; less than 20% indicated they are
not likely
• 45% of students are currently studying IT; 61% find it interesting
• 85% of students were in years 8, 9 or 10
• 100% of teachers would bring students to a similar event
• Over 99% of teachers rated the event management as good or excellent
• Only 20% of students were unlikely to select an IT subject next year
• 95% of students had positive feelings about careers in IT after the event
• 99% of teachers rated the quality and content of presentations as above average
 96% of students found it helpful to hear each presenter talk about their personal
experiences in IT
