Calvary Baptist Church
   Bellefontaine, Ohio
“Calvary Baptist Church exists to love
    and glorify God by encouraging
believers to be like Jesus Christ and by
 faithfully proclaiming the good news
of Jesus Christ to our neighbors and
           around the world.”
Calvary’s vision is to be:
 a church where those in Christ are challenged
to grow deeper and love Him more
 a church where those who are hurting and
feeling alone find acceptance and answers from
God’s Word and God’s people
 a church that is passionate about sharing the
message of Christ
 a church that will use its resources to display
the love of Christ to each other and to our
community
 Growing Stronger– knowing God’s Word to
    become more like Christ
 Loving Others– developing deeper
    relationship and meeting needs
 Reaching Out – sharing Christ with our
    neighbors and around the world
 Serving Others– learning and using our
    spiritual gifts
 Strengthening Families – building families on
    the foundation of God’s Word
 Growing Stronger– Every believer is called to become more like
Christ. We must study God’s Word and work to grow stronger.
 Loving Others– As a body of believers, we are called to represent
Christ to our world. We must actively develop deeper
relationships, meet needs, and love others.
 Reaching Out – The command of our Savior is to make disciples. We
must see the spiritual needs of our neighbors, friends, and those
around the world and share the gospel message as we reach out.
 Serving Others– God charges us to be excellent stewards of our
time, treasure and talents. We must use the special gifts given to us
    by God to serve others.
 Strengthening Families – The family unit, as designed in the Bible, is
under attack. We must equip and encourage parents to fulfill their
God-given responsibility and provide biblical tools to strengthen
    families.

Editor's Notes

  • #2 We had a team of nine that worked on these for the deacons. Sandy Stapleton, Courtney Prall, Steve Davis, Larry Jordan (Ridgeway), Mary Yoder, Jeff McKinley, Julie Howard, Jon Wish, and myself. Then the deacons reviewed these beginning at the deacon retreat and working through January to fine tune them.
  • #3 This is the mission statement from our constitution. Article 3 calls this our “Purpose.”
  • #4 A mission statement for a church can look like every other church’s mission because it comes from Scripture. The mission is God’s design for His body. The vision, however, is specific to the local body of believers. We had to ask, “What does God want this body to accomplish?”
  • #5 This is the shorter version you see in your handout. The core values allow us to focus our attention, energy and resources on specific task. They are designed to keep us on track.
  • #6 This is the longer version. Each core value has two sentences. The first one states our belief and the second one states our action based on our belief.
  • #7 These goals will require the church to work together to accomplish them. They will not come out of the pastoral staff offices alone but our of a church working together. We want you to find the one or two that excites you and jump on board.
  • #9 Will we accomplish all of these goals? Maybe not. Will the goals change? Possibly. Will some goals be repeated next year? Possibly. We did an assessment of our strengths and weaknesses. We looked at our core values and asked what needs to be strengthen if we truly value those five items. This will take, prayer, planning and cooperation to accomplish
