GENERAL NURSING ORIENTATION PROGRAM PHC
Synopsis
It is a requirement for MSQH accredited hospital to have a structured orientation
programme for all newly appointed staff to the Nursing Services. In this General Nursing
Program (GNO) in Pantai Hospital Cheras, the topics included the following:
• Overview of organization structure
• Explanation of the philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the
facility and those of the Nursing Services
• International Patient Safety Goals
• Lines of authority and areas of responsibility
• Explanation of duties and functions
• Information about safety procedures
• Methods of obtaining appropriate resource materials
• Staff appraisal procedure for the Nursing Services
• Education on Patient and Family Rights
• Education on MSQH accreditation standards
• Medication calculation test
At the end of the program, the new nursing staff will be able to:
• Verbalize the concept and requirements of International Patient Safety Goals
(IPSG 1 to 6).
• Demonstrate the process of performing nursing procedures as per IPSG
standards.
• Verbalize the vision, mission, and core values of PHC.
• Discuss and demonstrate the nursing assessment procedures such as pain
assessment, skin assessment as per PHC guidelines.
• Perform right medication drug calculation and safe medication administration
practices.
