This document examines patterns of Facebook use and traits of participatory culture among Tunisian youth. It reviews literature on how Facebook is used to manage social networks and for entertainment. Studies found Facebook use correlated with increased social capital and civic engagement. The document discusses concepts of participatory culture and media literacy. It poses research questions on how Tunisian youth use Facebook to maintain social networks and what activities they engage in. Questions also examine if Tunisian Facebook users demonstrate participatory culture by posting original content, responding to media, or engaging in group content creation. The methodology describes a web survey distributed to Tunisian youth to study their Facebook usage patterns and levels of participatory culture.
