The greenhouse effect is the process by which absorption and emission of infrared radiation by gases in a planet's atmosphere warm its lower atmosphere and surface. It was proposed by Joseph Fourier in 1824, discovered in 1860 by John Tyndall, was first investigated quantitatively by Svante Arrhenius in 1896 and was developed in the 1930s through 1960s by Guy Stewart Callendar.Heat waves, wildfires, floods and droughts hit us hard in 2012 (the warmest year on record for the United States). Informationsverarbeitung, Effekte und Funktionen. - Dr. Uli Gleich Dozent am Institut für Kommunikationspsychologie und Medienpädagogik (IKM) der Universität Koblenz-Landau Vergangenes Jahr eroberte eine Lebensmittelkette ihre junge Zielgruppe mit einem ungewöhnlichen Musik-Clip. Mit mehr als 1,2 Millionen Klicks mutierte der Song zum viralen Video-Wunder. Nicht das erste Mal, dass ein Video-Spot einen solchen Hype auslöste. Während Kinder und Jugendliche früher zwischen den Mainzelmännchen Reklamefilme mit Klementine oder Lurchi sahen, sind sie heute mit komplexeren Werbeformen konfrontiert. Diese erreichen sie häufig über Smartphone, Tablet oder Computer, nicht mehr nur über den klassischen TV-Bildschirm. Gerade Jugendliche nutzen Medien intensiv und meist ohne Begleitung. Dabei nehmen sie neue Werbeformen wie Social-Media-Marketing oder In-App-Werbung oft gar nicht als solche wahr, da sie sie nur schwer von Inhalten trennen können. Auch im Hinblick auf Aspekte wie Datenschutz oder Kostenfallen bestehen vermehrt Risiken. Jugendliche sollten daher – als ökonomisch durchaus potente Konsumenten und wichtige Zielgruppe für die Werbeindustrie – aufgeklärt und kritisch mit Werbung umgehen. Grund genug für die diesjährige Fachtagung, nicht nur neue Werbeformen und ihre Mechanismen vorzustellen, sondern auch auf aktuelle Problemfelder hinzuweisen. Darüber hinaus geben unsere Experten konkrete Tipps und praktische Anregungen für den reflektierten Umgang damit an die Hand. Eine Ideenbörse und verschiedene Informationsstände bieten die Möglichkeit zur Vertiefung und zum Austausch.

However, the scientific concepts behind the theory are not new. In the 1820s, Joseph Fourier was the first to recognize that, given the earth’s size and distance from the sun, the planet’s surface temperature should be considerably cooler than it was. He proposed several mechanisms to explain why the earth was warmer than his calculations predicted, one of which was that the earth’s atmosphere might act as an insulator. Forty years later, John Tyndall demonstrated that different gases have different capacities to absorb infrared radiation, most notably methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), and water vapor (H2O), all of which are present in the atmosphere. In 1896, Svante Arrhenius developed the first mathematical model of the effect of increased CO2 levels on temperature. His model predicted that a doubling of the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere would produce a 5–6 °C increase in temperature globally. Many researchers, engineers and environmentalists are expressing deep concerns about changes in the overall climate of the planet. Fossil fuels are being continuously used to produce electricity. The burning of these fuels produces gases like carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxides which lead to global warming. Deforestation is also leading to warmer temperatures. The hazard of global warming is continuously causing major damage to the Earth's environment. Most people are still unaware of global warming and do not consider it to be a big problem in years to come. What most people do not understand is that global warming is currently happening, and we are already experiencing some of its withering effects. It is and will severely affect ecosystems and disturb ecological balance. Because of the treacherous effects of global warming, some solutions must be devised. The paper introduces global warming, elaborates its causes and hazards and presents some solutions to solve this hot issue. Above all, alternative energy sources (solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, bio mass) need to be seriously pursued. Finding and using renewable sources of energy is one of the methods to combat the ever increasing global warming effectively.

Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation. This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability. Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots. The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee. • The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act. • The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error. Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials. This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
