Ethnographic Interview
1. Statement of Purpose: I will be conducting an ethnographic interview with a focus of classroom etiquette in rural Taiwan. My interviewee is an exchange student named … , from Chung, Taiwan. She is an English Major here, and is 20 years old. The interviews will be held in the Library, where I will ask several questions and log all responses in a journal.
2. Questions: Some of the questions I plan to ask the interviewee are:
· In your opinion, what is a successful educational experience?
· What do your parents consider to be a successful educational experience?
· What do your teachers consider to be a successful education?
· What type of relation do you typically have with your teacher in the classroom?
· What type of relation do you typically have with your teacher outside of the classroom?
· What sort of interaction is there between students in the classroom?
· Is it considered disrespectful to talk out of turn while in class?
· What is considered unacceptable behavior while in class (i.e. chewing gum, writing notes, texting)?
· What are the consequences for unacceptable behavior in the classroom?
· On average, how many hours of homework per day are you expected to complete at home?
3. Summary of findings
This was a very insightful interview, I found that a lot of my assumptions on Asian education proved to be true for education in Taiwan; however, I also found that it was to an extreme that I did not expect. … seems to be a very dedicated and focused student, and she portrays that in how she talked about her study habits, but generally Taiwanese education is fairly easy and students have little to no study time at home- which I found to be extremely surprising! The strangest part is that as a culture, grades are so important, but not so much actually being stretched to your limits or reaching ones’ potential.

Expectations
In my interview I found that in Taiwan your expectations are clear cut, as well as the punishments for not reaching those expectations. When asked how a successful student would be defined in Taiwan, I was surprised to find how straight forward the answer was. A successful student has straight A’s. It was the same answer, regardless of whether it were the teacher, parent, or student was defining it. When hearing this response, I thought of what I would define a successful student and right away, phrases such as “reach my potential” and “contribute to the bettering of society” came to mind. I would one day like to continue this interview with more Taiwanese students, teachers and parents of students to see if having grades really is the only and most important indicator of a successful student. I think that this culture values the results or information seen on paper (grades) more than the actual outcome of the student, which is very different from here.

Ethnographic Interview
1. Statement of Purpose: I will be conducting an ethnographic interview with a focus of classroom etiquette in rural Taiwan. My interviewee is an exchange student named … , from Chung, Taiwan. She is an English Major here, and is 20 years old. The interviews will be held in the Library, where I will ask several questions and log all responses in a journal.
2. Questions: Some of the questions I plan to ask the interviewee are:
· In your opinion, what is a successful educational experience?
· What do your parents consider to be a successful educational experience?
· What do your teachers consider to be a successful education?
· What type of relation do you typically have with your teacher in the classroom?
· What type of relation do you typically have with your teacher outside of the classroom?
· What sort of interaction is there between students in the classroom?
· Is it considered disrespectful to talk out of turn while in class?
· What is considered unacceptable behavior while in class (i.e. chewing gum, writing notes, texting)?
· What are the consequences for unacceptable behavior in the classroom?
· On average, how many hours of homework per day are you expected to complete at home?
3. Summary of findings
This was a very insightful interview, I found that a lot of my assumptions on Asian education proved to be true for education in Taiwan; however, I also found that it was to an extreme that I did not expect. … seems to be a very dedicated and focused student, and she portrays that in how she talked about her study habits, but generally Taiwanese education is fairly easy and students have little to no study time at home- which I found to be extremely surprising! The strangest part is that as a culture, grades are so important, but not so much actually being stretched to your limits or reaching ones’ potential.

Expectations
In my interview I found that in Taiwan your expectations are clear cut, as well as the punishments for not reaching those expectations. When asked how a successful student would be defined in Taiwan, I was surprised to find how straight forward the answer was. A successful student has straight A’s. It was the same answer, regardless of whether it were the teacher, parent, or student was defining it. When hearing this response, I thought of what I would define a successful student and right away, phrases such as “reach my potential” and “contribute to the bettering of society” came to mind. I would one day like to continue this interview with more Taiwanese students, teachers and parents of students to see if having grades really is the only and most important indicator of a successful student. I think that this culture values the results or information seen on paper (grades) more than the actual outcome of the student, which is very different from here.

All about me
I asked my parents to describe me and what they thought about my character. My dad said that he liked that I am hardworking and always thinking about my future. My mother thinks I am sweet and admires me because I always try to put on a smile. Three of my friends say that I am an outgoing person, sociable, likable and fun to be around. Most of them had good things to say about me. One of them said I am very competitive. Of course, some of these responses could be biased or a little insincere since I assume none of these people would want to hurt me in any way. However, I still believe that their thoughts about me could not be far from the truth. Personally, I think I am a very ambitious individual. I reflect a lot about my future. I want to be successful both in school and out of it. I always try to be positive even when being faced with challenges. I agree with most of my friends’ responses.
For instance, I agree when one of them said that I am very hardworking and competitive. This is true because I do not like losing, be at my job, schoolwork or fun activities, I always try to win. I do not completely agree when my friends say that I am always kind and outgoing. Being an incredibly ambitious person, sometimes I tend to push away the closest people in my life so that I can dedicate some time for myself and my son. I usually use this time to reflect on my dreams and how I am going to achieve them and what I will be able to offer to my son’s future.
I believe that it is completely normal for someone to want to improve themselves. I do it with good intentions. I do not do it intentionally to harm anyone, and sometimes I feel guilty whenever I decline my friends’ request to hang out so that I can work on myself but still believe that they understand and appreciate me and those who hasn’t stick around were not meant to be in my life.
My ideal self is a person who always strives to achieve what I desire but still dedicates time for friends, family and other people close to me. My ideal self is a person who is successful, trusting, tender, thoughtful, humble, determined, trustworthy and wise. Also, I desire to be tougher whenever I face challenges since I tend to think that I am a little sensitive. I would very much like to embody these character traits. I think that there is a lot of work to be done to achieve my ideal self but still, think that I am not far-flung.
My social identities vary. For instance, I am a member of a women association club. I am also a member of the parent’s club at my son’s school. Being members of these social groups has helped me improve my sense of worth, social skills and also meet relatives that I never met back in my country. Abstract
This unit plan aims to teach kindergarten students about two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes over the course of a week. The lessons each day will allow students to identify, define, name, draw, and distinguish between 2D and 3D shapes. - 1. Getting to Know Deborah Goodman Personal I live in Edenton, NC with my husband of 36 years. We have one daughter who lives close by. Professional I am a NBCT and this is my 25th year in education. Peculiar I think these quotes say it all. Are the towels folded and stacked correctly in the linen closet?
