CARGILL CASE READY MEATS, TORONTO/GUELPH 2003-2015
Category Manager 2014-2015
Took on a developmental role within the company to focus on creating a framework to analyse profitability
by customer to expand tonnage volume through three plants to either new or existing customers.
Analysed and provided recommendations surrounding customer centric metrics (Retail Link
for Walmart) to improve product shrink performance at store level.
Reviewed internal profitability by product type (Beef, Grind, Poultry) and customer group
(Wal-Mart, Loblaw, Fresh Co) and provided direction to correct operational errors or costing
deviations from standard model adherence.
Launched new category line (poultry) with Loblaw. Coordinated internal code creation,
championed multi department support. Managed product costing, baseline and feature
orders with Loblaw to ramp up plant capacity from nothing to 120,000 kilograms per week.
Worked collaboratively with operations and innovations team to create and launch new fully
costed product offerings for existing and new customers. Additional customers included
Shoppers Drug Mart, 5 Guys Burgers and Sysco. Existing customer projects included
packaging and branding overhauls for Loblaw and Walmart.
Worked with vendors to align raw material supply on features business with customer
demand to increase year over year volume (Wal-Mart by 15%)
Identified areas of opportunity within the logistics and transportation group. Decreased the
net financial impact of claims to Cargill by 70% through early prevention and enforced
carrier’s accountability to Cargill expectations.
Sourced vendors and managed sales of bi-product beef table trim which captured an
additional 1.3 million dollars of sustained year over year revenue for the business.
Implemented a tracking system to capture dollar value of non-compliance fines from
Walmart. Set up regular meetings within Cargill to educate different areas of the business on
their accountabilities. Reduced occurrence of fines by over 80% and annual financial impact
to Cargill by over $200,000
Customer Relationship Manager 2011-2013
Initially responsible for the consolidation of two distinct customer service teams during merge of two
existing Cargill businesses. Reduced headcount by 25% and under new restructured department I
oversaw the day to day management of a customer service and national account manager team that was
responsible for ensuring accurate transmission, adjustment and carriage of purchase orders, overall
system data integrity and forecasting of future sales in a multi-customer and multi- plant environment.
Managed and administered costing and oversaw the accurate deployment of retail pricing on
a weekly basis. Over which time cost increases from both Wal-Mart and Fresh Co were
presented and achieved to bring them in alignment with actual operating costs of the
business. (Legacy agreements inherited when two Cargill businesses merged)

Ensured acceptable fill rates (97.5%) and minimized product loss through participation in out-
front planning processes to ensure available plant capacity over features and holiday
closures as well as seasonal and new product transitions
Implemented clearly defined Key Result Actions for direct reports and oversaw the
documentation of all job tasks. Utilized this as a core element of cross training and individual
development as the department underwent processes standardization across all customers.
Developed and implemented the use of technology to generate system driven check and
balances to minimize waste (products not shipped out on time) and increase efficiency of
team members. (reduced weekly core order processing workload by 25 hours per week)
Acted as Cargill business knowledge advisor during an 18 month implementation of SAP by
Loblaw for their order management processes. Target goal of Cargill user interface
experience remaining intact was successfully achieved.
Acting Plant HR Manager 2009-2011
Managed and coordinated goal-oriented objectives for a team of 10 employees with responsibility for
Payroll, Security, Health Centre and Human Resources for approximately 700 unionized employees in
two separate plants.
Responsible for the compliance of internal company policies and government legislative
requirements (Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code and Unionized CBA) for a
facility of 90 salaried and 700 unionized employees.
Oversaw Labour Relations in an contentious environment of approximately 700 unionized
employees. Reduced an maintained outstanding grievances by over 80%.
Awarded successful outcomes in 20 arbitrations. Achieved through accurate and thorough
compilation of information and the development and adherence to a logical strategy of
escalated and progressive discipline.
Conducted an in-depth analysis of the company’s financial exposure during the collective
bargaining process. Participated at the bargaining table during the successful negotiation of
the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
