Camerawork
There not a lot of variation in the types of shots
used in this video but the ones that are used
promote a lot of meaning regarding the song. The
first shot is a POV shot showing the artist on a
Ferris Wheel, this type of camerawork came up
when the artist isn’t singing and this could be
done to show that the artist is singing about what
he is seeing and he gives the audience an
opportunity to see what he sees. The next shot is
a mid-shot which is the most frequent shot in the
video. It shows the artist sing and we can see his
emotions he has towards the song, and the
audience can make the assumption that he is
emotionless and this is also seen in the last shot
which is a close up. Once again the audience can
see that he is emotionless, he could be doing this
to promote hid star image of being emotionless
and that he doesn’t care about anyone or
anything.

Mise-en-Scene
As the video is one continuations shot,
there isn’t any costume changes or
changes in location. In the first shot, we
can see his costume and he is wearing a
brown jacket with a white t-shirt. This
shows that his star image is more basic
he doesn’t care about being flashy with
designer or branded clothes, he just
wants to dress how he wants to dress.
There is a the use of a prop and it is
obviously the bear and it has no
meaning towards the song but it makes
sense for the location which is an
amusement park. The location is an
amusement park which is strange
because the lyrics don’t mention theme
parks or anything on the subject which
shows the characters edginess as he has
outside of the box ideas.

Editing
This video as next to no editing in it as
it is filmed in one continuous shot.
This is unconventional for a pop music
video because they usually involve
lots of cuts to different locations and a
lot of fast paced editing. This tells us
that his star image challenges
conventions and he wants to break
out and be different.
Katy Perry- Bon Appetit ft. Migos
Mise en scene-
In this image we get a clear view of Katy Perry’s costume. The costume that she is wearing is
a cream body suit which looks like a swimming costume however, we see most of her body as
what she is wearing is quite revealing. This tells the audience many things about the artist
that she has a lot of confidence within herself to show this much of her body to the audience.
However, this is very typical in a pop music video for the artist to be wearing revealing
costume. Katy Perry may have done this to attract more viewers and to have a wider
audience. The colour of her costume is almost similar to her skin colour this makes the
audience need to look twice to check that she is wearing some sort of clothing, the artist also
may have done this on purpose to show that she is quite a sexual and a very open person, she
doesn’t care what other think. The star image of the artist Katy Perry from seeing this picture
is an over confident person who is very open to herself and doesn’t hide much from her
audience.
Camerawork-
Here is an example of a mid-shot in the the music video ‘Bon Appetit’. In this image to top of her
head is cut of allowing us to see clearly what she is doing, she seems to be eating some sort of
fruit . This is quite sexual as she is laying down on her back looking upwards on her own, she
looks like she is enjoying it as we can see from the image she is wearing bright red lipstick linking
to mise-en-scene this also known as a romantic sexual colour, this tells the audience many things
about the artist for example, she is content with life, happy within her self and happy with her
body. This shot allows me to point this out as I can see half of her body and how much she is
revealing to her audience. She seems happy to just lay there eating a strawberry. The star image
of the artist from this mid-shot is that she is very confident and enjoys time alone as the
composition of this shot cuts her head or tightly squeezing only her into the shot this may also
show independence .
The editing used in the shot is long take. In the music video this section of just her face looking
straight at the camera lip-syncing and making odd facial expressions. This tells me a lot about this
artist, that she likes the attention on her as she is featured the most in the music video which
makes it clear that she is the main artist in the song, this makes the audience clear that she is the
most important in this video. This long-takes make me think that she enjoys a bit of the attention
just on her. This also shows her confidence as she not hiding anything .
Editing-
Mise-en scene- In this image Katy Perry’s is seen looking naked however she is wearing a skin colour body suit
but gives the audience the illusion that she is not wearing anything . The artist is wrapped in
plastic like a piece of meat in the fridge waiting to be cooked. In Bon Appétit, Katy Perry is not
treated like a human being, but like a piece of meat. Not intended to look like she is being used
for pleasure but simply just treated like an actual, literal piece of meat that has no worth, no
soul or value. She is even physically touched by the men around her and seems to not be very
bothered about it. It is as if she has completely dissociated from reality and was under mind
control by handlers. This is very conventional and typical for a pop music video to have a
revealing costume to attract more viewers, however, from this image we see how open she is
with her body, her star image is a confident, changed woman as she never used to be like this
before, as her music videos were completely different but now she looks empowered and
sexually liberated.
Camerawork-
Here we see a long shot of Katy Perry laying on her back looking like a main course at this
cannibalism restaurant. The composition of this shot is fairly wide as we are able to see
Katy Perry in the centre of the image and the men sitting around the table looking at her.
This tells me a lot about the artist for example, she looks like the main attention, I think
she is trying to convey woman stereotypes as being the eye attraction to men. In this
long shot we are able to see her self-confidence within her self as she is laying on the
table very peacefully and relaxed. Overall, Katy Perry is happy with herself and doesn’t
care what anyone says, she wanted to do a music video that is abnormal just like most of
the artists are doing now.
In this shot slow-motion was used when she was blowing from her mouth and doing a weird
facial expression this may be to show her audience that she is crazy and doesn’t care what
anyone says. She may also be showing to her audience that normal is boring and that in her
life behind the cameras she is a normal person who loves to joke and doesn’t care if she is
being judged in the long run. Katy Perry's star image from this shot is happy person content
with life, not over serious.
Editing-
Mise en scene-
The prop that was used in the shot of Katy Perry Is chopped up vegetables laid on her
lower body looking as if it is covering her lower privates. It represents preparing her to
get eaten by the guests. To me the chiefs look like they are doing anything that they want
to the artist which could represent real life of how men can be controlling over women
and how men feel most powerful and dominant that women. These vegetables placed on
her body. Many women may feel that their own bodies are slipping out of their control,
Katy Perry may be trying to show her audience that they should be confident with
themselves and they shouldn’t care what people have to say about them. To me I feel
that she is representing her self as a sex object, I also feel that she is quite sexual in the
way she just lays their with food that people are suppose to eat just laid on her body.
Here is a mid shot of Katy Perry sitting down with a pie in front of her however, this is
no ordinary normal pie this is a pie . We see Katy Perry with a fork and knife, ready to
eat a pie made of those who wanting to feast on her. In the previous images above it
showed Katy Perry being prepared to be served for the guests dinner, however, in this
image she is representing more control as she has a pie that has the arms and legs of
the guests that wanted to eat her. This represents power as before she was being
controlled and now this image shows he being in control. Her star image is strong
and happy.
Music Video Analysis:
ZAYN – Dusk Till Dawn Ft. Siahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tt2k8PGm-TI
In ZAYN’s music video for ‘Dusk Till Dawn’, typical iconography for
Goodwin’s ‘disjuncture’ theory. The film consists of a narrative
throughout the video. The lyrics have some correlation to the video
but the artist takes on a very different role to what his fans are used
to. In terms of mise-en-scene, many shots have low-ley lighting –
like the image on the left. This is used to emphasise the artist’s
character as a villain in the video, as opposed by the police and
detectives wearing police uniforms and badges.
Some shots are filmed in slow motion, usually when the chorus is
playing. This makes the audience really take in the characters
movements and empathise with the character. However, near the
end of the video when the standoff between the police and Zayn’s
character, the editing picks up and becomes fast paced. This is
action match editing and is used to create suspense within the
video.
In terms of camerawork, close up shots are used on the artist whilst
he is lip synching the lyrics. The shots only show his face looking
down from an apartment building. This is the only conventional part
of the video, as the artist is shown singing the song.

  • 1. Childish Gambino - 3005 Camerawork There not a lot of variation in the types of shots used in this video but the ones that are used promote a lot of meaning regarding the song. The first shot is a POV shot showing the artist on a Ferris Wheel, this type of camerawork came up when the artist isn’t singing and this could be done to show that the artist is singing about what he is seeing and he gives the audience an opportunity to see what he sees. The next shot is a mid-shot which is the most frequent shot in the video. It shows the artist sing and we can see his emotions he has towards the song, and the audience can make the assumption that he is emotionless and this is also seen in the last shot which is a close up. Once again the audience can see that he is emotionless, he could be doing this to promote hid star image of being emotionless and that he doesn’t care about anyone or anything.
  • 2. Childish Gambino – 3005 Mise-en-Scene As the video is one continuations shot, there isn’t any costume changes or changes in location. In the first shot, we can see his costume and he is wearing a brown jacket with a white t-shirt. This shows that his star image is more basic he doesn’t care about being flashy with designer or branded clothes, he just wants to dress how he wants to dress. There is a the use of a prop and it is obviously the bear and it has no meaning towards the song but it makes sense for the location which is an amusement park. The location is an amusement park which is strange because the lyrics don’t mention theme parks or anything on the subject which shows the characters edginess as he has outside of the box ideas.
  • 3. Childish Gambino - 3005 Editing This video as next to no editing in it as it is filmed in one continuous shot. This is unconventional for a pop music video because they usually involve lots of cuts to different locations and a lot of fast paced editing. This tells us that his star image challenges conventions and he wants to break out and be different.
  • 4. Katy Perry- Bon Appetit ft. Migos Mise en scene- In this image we get a clear view of Katy Perry’s costume. The costume that she is wearing is a cream body suit which looks like a swimming costume however, we see most of her body as what she is wearing is quite revealing. This tells the audience many things about the artist that she has a lot of confidence within herself to show this much of her body to the audience. However, this is very typical in a pop music video for the artist to be wearing revealing costume. Katy Perry may have done this to attract more viewers and to have a wider audience. The colour of her costume is almost similar to her skin colour this makes the audience need to look twice to check that she is wearing some sort of clothing, the artist also may have done this on purpose to show that she is quite a sexual and a very open person, she doesn’t care what other think. The star image of the artist Katy Perry from seeing this picture is an over confident person who is very open to herself and doesn’t hide much from her audience. Camerawork- Here is an example of a mid-shot in the the music video ‘Bon Appetit’. In this image to top of her head is cut of allowing us to see clearly what she is doing, she seems to be eating some sort of fruit . This is quite sexual as she is laying down on her back looking upwards on her own, she looks like she is enjoying it as we can see from the image she is wearing bright red lipstick linking to mise-en-scene this also known as a romantic sexual colour, this tells the audience many things about the artist for example, she is content with life, happy within her self and happy with her body. This shot allows me to point this out as I can see half of her body and how much she is revealing to her audience. She seems happy to just lay there eating a strawberry. The star image of the artist from this mid-shot is that she is very confident and enjoys time alone as the composition of this shot cuts her head or tightly squeezing only her into the shot this may also show independence . The editing used in the shot is long take. In the music video this section of just her face looking straight at the camera lip-syncing and making odd facial expressions. This tells me a lot about this artist, that she likes the attention on her as she is featured the most in the music video which makes it clear that she is the main artist in the song, this makes the audience clear that she is the most important in this video. This long-takes make me think that she enjoys a bit of the attention just on her. This also shows her confidence as she not hiding anything . Editing-
  • 5. Mise-en scene- In this image Katy Perry’s is seen looking naked however she is wearing a skin colour body suit but gives the audience the illusion that she is not wearing anything . The artist is wrapped in plastic like a piece of meat in the fridge waiting to be cooked. In Bon Appétit, Katy Perry is not treated like a human being, but like a piece of meat. Not intended to look like she is being used for pleasure but simply just treated like an actual, literal piece of meat that has no worth, no soul or value. She is even physically touched by the men around her and seems to not be very bothered about it. It is as if she has completely dissociated from reality and was under mind control by handlers. This is very conventional and typical for a pop music video to have a revealing costume to attract more viewers, however, from this image we see how open she is with her body, her star image is a confident, changed woman as she never used to be like this before, as her music videos were completely different but now she looks empowered and sexually liberated. Camerawork- Here we see a long shot of Katy Perry laying on her back looking like a main course at this cannibalism restaurant. The composition of this shot is fairly wide as we are able to see Katy Perry in the centre of the image and the men sitting around the table looking at her. This tells me a lot about the artist for example, she looks like the main attention, I think she is trying to convey woman stereotypes as being the eye attraction to men. In this long shot we are able to see her self-confidence within her self as she is laying on the table very peacefully and relaxed. Overall, Katy Perry is happy with herself and doesn’t care what anyone says, she wanted to do a music video that is abnormal just like most of the artists are doing now. In this shot slow-motion was used when she was blowing from her mouth and doing a weird facial expression this may be to show her audience that she is crazy and doesn’t care what anyone says. She may also be showing to her audience that normal is boring and that in her life behind the cameras she is a normal person who loves to joke and doesn’t care if she is being judged in the long run. Katy Perry's star image from this shot is happy person content with life, not over serious. Editing-
  • 6. Mise en scene- The prop that was used in the shot of Katy Perry Is chopped up vegetables laid on her lower body looking as if it is covering her lower privates. It represents preparing her to get eaten by the guests. To me the chiefs look like they are doing anything that they want to the artist which could represent real life of how men can be controlling over women and how men feel most powerful and dominant that women. These vegetables placed on her body. Many women may feel that their own bodies are slipping out of their control, Katy Perry may be trying to show her audience that they should be confident with themselves and they shouldn’t care what people have to say about them. To me I feel that she is representing her self as a sex object, I also feel that she is quite sexual in the way she just lays their with food that people are suppose to eat just laid on her body. Here is a mid shot of Katy Perry sitting down with a pie in front of her however, this is no ordinary normal pie this is a pie . We see Katy Perry with a fork and knife, ready to eat a pie made of those who wanting to feast on her. In the previous images above it showed Katy Perry being prepared to be served for the guests dinner, however, in this image she is representing more control as she has a pie that has the arms and legs of the guests that wanted to eat her. This represents power as before she was being controlled and now this image shows he being in control. Her star image is strong and happy.
  • 7. Music Video Analysis: ZAYN – Dusk Till Dawn Ft. Siahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tt2k8PGm-TI In ZAYN’s music video for ‘Dusk Till Dawn’, typical iconography for Goodwin’s ‘disjuncture’ theory. The film consists of a narrative throughout the video. The lyrics have some correlation to the video but the artist takes on a very different role to what his fans are used to. In terms of mise-en-scene, many shots have low-ley lighting – like the image on the left. This is used to emphasise the artist’s character as a villain in the video, as opposed by the police and detectives wearing police uniforms and badges. Some shots are filmed in slow motion, usually when the chorus is playing. This makes the audience really take in the characters movements and empathise with the character. However, near the end of the video when the standoff between the police and Zayn’s character, the editing picks up and becomes fast paced. This is action match editing and is used to create suspense within the video. In terms of camerawork, close up shots are used on the artist whilst he is lip synching the lyrics. The shots only show his face looking down from an apartment building. This is the only conventional part of the video, as the artist is shown singing the song.
