LITTLE BIT OF COMEDY
 Comedy is a genre of film in which the main emphasis is on humour. These
films are designed to entertain the audience through amusement, and often work by
exaggerating characteristics of real life for humorous effect.
 Comedy is one of the oldest genres (silent films used often slap stick comedy of
grand gestures or fumy costumes)
 Comedy is a base genre and can over lap in many other genres eg: Comedy
Horror, Tragi-comedy, Rom-Com .
 Comedy has a vast set of codes and can introduce other genres to a classic film
remake which is called a parody.
TECHNICAL CODES
 The camera angle goes along with characters, filming is natural and
uses high shots for a whole scene.
CHICK FLICKS
 Chick flicks are a modern genre (80’s) which has a target audience
of a mainly female market. The films often involve a group of girls,
an attractive male lead and an unpopular girl getting her dream!
CODES
 Verbal codes- dialect is an important aspect of a chick flick, there
are often funny quotes with sassy tones. Eg “you can go shave your
back now” (Mean girls) The un-diegetic is important as the songs are
often “sexy” during a strut and or important scene. The diegetic is
usually laughing, slap stick sound effects and gasps.

 Technical- technical codes involve the camera angles like a
“Establish angle” often in school grounds like a canteen or corridor.
There are usually slow motion clips usually in a strut or kiss.

HORROR
 Horror is a classic genre when a camera was invented people
become obssessed with scaring themselves! Monsters had been
written for hundreds of years and finally “The Haunted Castle”
shown in 1896 started a craze still going strong over 100 years later!
CODES
 Horror films are incredible to decode symbolic codes “The
Village” emphasizes the colour red. The story plot states if there is
red in the villages the monsters will come! Not only are colours
symbolic but the location whether its have historic value or more
dramatic scenery.
