Quality circles are voluntary groups of employees that meet regularly to identify, analyze, and solve quality, productivity, cost reduction, and safety issues in their work area. This aims to improve performance and skills. The first quality circle was launched in Japan in 1962 under Professor Ishikawa, and there are now over 10 million people participating in over 1 million circles. They were introduced to India in 1980 and the Quality Circle Forum of India was founded in 1982 to promote their use nationally.
