This document discusses Vocational Training and Employment Centres (VTECs) as a program to reduce disparity between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians through employment. VTECs provide guaranteed jobs, training, and support services to help Indigenous job seekers overcome barriers and obtain long-term employment. Since 2008, over 2,200 jobs have been filled through 29 VTECs across Australia, with a retention rate over 70% after 26 weeks. The goal is to fill 5,000 jobs and maintain the high retention rate by June 2016.
