Rough Set Theory is an effective mathematical tool for selecting informative genes from microarray data. The paper discusses using Rough Set Theory for gene selection, which is the process of choosing the most informative genes from a whole gene database. It describes the basics of Rough Set Theory and proposes using a Quick-Reduct based Genetic Algorithm for Rough Set attribute reduction to select informative genes from microarray data.

The classification is a one of the most indispensable domains in the data mining and machine learning. The classification process has a good reputation in the area of diseases diagnosis by computer systems where the progress in smart technologies of computer can be invested in diagnosing various diseases based on data of real patients documented in databases. The paper introduced a methodology for diagnosing a set of diseases including two types of cancer (breast cancer and lung), two datasets for diabetes and heart attack. Back Propagation Neural Network plays the role of classifier. The performance of neural net is enhanced by using the genetic algorithm which provides the classifier with the optimal features to raise the classification rate to the highest possible. The system showed high efficiency in dealing with databases differs from each other in size, number of features and nature of the data and this is what the results illustrated, where the ratio of the classification reached to 100% in most datasets).

This paper reports on the empirical evaluation of five machine learning algorithm such as J48, BayesNet, OneR, NB and ZeroR using ten performance criteria: accuracy, precision, recall, F-Measure, incorrectly classified instances, kappa statistic, mean absolute error, root mean squared error, relative absolute error, root relative squared error. The aim of this paper is to find out which classifier is better in its performance for intrusion detection system. Machine Learning is one of the methods used in the intrusion detection system (IDS).Based on this study, it can be concluded that J48 decision tree is the most suitable associated algorithm than the other four algorithms. In this paper we compared the performance of Intrusion Detection System (IDS) Classifiers using seven feature reduction techniques.
CLUSTERING DICHOTOMOUS DATA FOR HEALTH CARE
Dichotomous data is a type of categorical data, which is binary with categories zero and one. Health care data is one of the heavily used categorical data. Binary data are the simplest form of data used for heath care databases in which close ended questions can be used; it is very efficient based on computational efficiency and memory capacity to represent categorical type data. Clustering health care or medical data is very tedious due to its complex data representation models, high dimensionality and data sparsity. In this paper, clustering is performed after transforming the dichotomous data into real by wiener transformation. The proposed algorithm can be usable for determining the correlation of the health disorders and symptoms observed in large medical and health binary databases. Computational results show that the clustering based on Wiener transformation is very efficient in terms of objectivity and subjectivity.

Feature selection is considered as a problem of global combinatorial optimization in machine learning, which reduces the number of features, removes irrelevant, noisy and redundant data. However, identification of useful features from hundreds or even thousands of related features is not an easy task. Selecting relevant genes from microarray data becomes even more challenging owing to the high dimensionality of features, multiclass categories involved and the usually small sample size. In order to improve the prediction accuracy and to avoid incomprehensibility due to the number of features different feature selection techniques can be implemented. This survey classifies and analyzes different approaches, aiming to not only provide a comprehensive presentation but also discuss challenges and various performance parameters. An approach for discrimination prevention in data mining
Abstract In the age of Database technologies a large amount of data is collected and analyzed by using data mining techniques. However, the main issue in data mining is potential privacy invasion and potential discrimination. One of the techniques used in data mining for making decision is classification. On the other hand, if the dataset is biased then the discriminatory decision may occur. Therefore, in this paper we review the recent state of the art approaches for antidiscrimination techniques and also focuses on discrimination discovery and prevention in data mining. On the other hand, we also study a theoretical proposal for enhancing the results of the data quality. This paper demonstrates a hybrid between two optimization methods which are the Artificial Immune System (AIS) and Genetic Algorithm (GA). The novel algorithm called the immune genetic algorithm (IGA), provides improvement to the results that enable GA and AIS to work separately which is the main objective of this hybrid. Negative selection which is one of the techniques in the AIS, was employed to determine the input variables (populations) of the system. In order to illustrate the effectiveness of the IGA, the comparison with a steady-state GA, AIS, and PSO were also investigated. The testing of the performance was conducted by mathematical testing, problems were divided into single and multiple objectives. The five single objectives were then used to test the modified algorithm, the results showed that IGA performed better than all of the other methods. The DTLZ multi-objective testing functions were then used. The result also illustrated that the modified approach still had the best performance.
Propose a Enhanced Framework for Prediction of Heart Disease
Heart disease diagnosis requires more experience and it is a complex task. The Heart MRI, ECG and Stress Test etc are the numbers of medical tests are prescribed by the doctor for examining the heart disease and it is the way of tradition in the prediction of heart disease. Today world, the hidden information of the huge amount of health care data is contained by the health care industry. The effective decisions are made by means of this hidden information. For appropriate results, the advanced data mining techniques with the information which is based on the computer are used. In any empirical sciences, for the inference and categorisation, the new mathematical techniques to be used called Artificial neural networks (ANNs) it also be used to the modelling of the real neural networks. Acting, Wanting, knowing, remembering, perceiving, thinking and inferring are the nature of mental phenomena and these can be understand by using the theory of ANN. The problem of probability and induction can be arised for the inference and classification because these are the powerful instruments of ANN. In this paper, the classification techniques like Naive Bayes Classification algorithm and Artificial Neural Networks are used to classify the attributes in the given data set. The attribute filtering techniques like PCA (Principle Component Analysis) filtering and Information Gain Attribute Subset Evaluation technique for feature selection in the given data set to predict the heart disease symptoms. A new framework is proposed which is based on the above techniques, the framework will take the input dataset and fed into the feature selection techniques block, which selects any one techniques that gives the least number of attributes and then classification task is done using two algorithms, the same attributes that are selected by two classification task is taken for the prediction of heart disease. This framework consumes the time for predicting the symptoms of heart disease which make the user to know the important attributes based on the proposed framework.

Feature selection for multiple water quality status: integrated bootstrapping...
STORET is one method to determine the river water quality, and to classify them into four classes (very good, good, medium and bad) based on the data of water for each attribute or feature. The success of the formation of pattern recognition model much depends on the quality of data. There are two issues as the concern of this research as follows, the data having disproportionate amount among the classes (imbalance class) and the finding of noise on its attribute. Therefore, this research integrates the SMOTE Technique and bootstrapping to handle the problem of imbalance class. While an experiment is conducted to eliminate the noise on the attribute by using some feature selection algorithms with filter approach (information gain, rule, derivation, correlation and chi square). This research has some stages as follows: data understanding, pre-processing, imbalance class, feature selection, classification and performance evaluation. Based on the result of testing using 10-fold cross validation, it shows that the use of the SMOTE-bootstrapping technique is able to increase the accuracy from 83.3% to be 98.8%. While the process of noise elimination onthe data attribute is also able to increase the accuracy to be 99.5% (the use of feature subset produced by the information gain algorithm and the decision tree classification algorithm).

An efficient information retrieval ontology system based indexing for context
Abstract Many of the research or development projects are constructed and vast type of artifacts are released such as article, patent, report of research, conference papers, journal papers, experimental data and so on. The searching of the particular context through the keywords from the repository is not an easy task because the earliest system the problem of huge recalls with low precision. This paper challenges to construct a search algorithm based on the ontology to retrieve the relevant contexts. Ontology's are great knowledge of retrieving the context. In this paper, we utilize the WordNet ontology to retrieve the relevant contexts from the document repository. It is very difficult to retrieve the relevant context in its original format since we use the pre-processing step, which helps to retrieve context. The pre-processing step includes two major steps first one is stop word removal and the second one is stemming process. The outcome of the pre-processing step is indexing consist of important keywords and their corresponding keywords. When the user enter the keyword to the system, the ontology makes the several steps to make the refine keywords. Finally, the refine keywords are matched with index and relevant contexts are retrieved. The experimentation process is carried out with the help of different set of contexts to achieve the results and the performance analysis of the proposed approach is estimated by the evaluation metrics like precision, recall and F-measure. Using ID3 Decision Tree Algorithm to the Student Grade Analysis and Prediction
Data mining techniques play an important role in data analysis. For the construction of a classification model which could predict performance of students, particularly for engineering branches, a decision tree algorithm associated with the data mining techniques have been used in the research. Predicting students' performance using id3 and c4.5 classification algorithms
An educational institution needs to have an approximate prior knowledge of enrolled students to predict
their performance in future academics. This helps them to identify promising students and also provides
them an opportunity to pay attention to and improve those who would probably get lower grades. As a
solution, we have developed a system which can predict the performance of students from their previous
performances using concepts of data mining techniques under Classification. We have analyzed the data
set containing information about students, such as gender, marks scored in the board examinations of
classes X and XII, marks and rank in entrance examinations and results in first year of the previous batch
of students. By applying the ID3 (Iterative Dichotomiser 3) and C4.5 classification algorithms on this data,
we have predicted the general and individual performance of freshly admitted students in future
examinations.

Acting, Wanting, knowing, remembering, perceiving, thinking and inferring are the nature of mental phenomena and these can be understand by using the theory of ANN. The problem of probability and induction can be arised for the inference and classification because these are the powerful instruments of ANN. In this paper, the classification techniques like Naive Bayes Classification algorithm and Artificial Neural Networks are used to classify the attributes in the given data set. The attribute filtering techniques like PCA (Principle Component Analysis) filtering and Information Gain Attribute Subset Evaluation technique for feature selection in the given data set to predict the heart disease symptoms. A new framework is proposed which is based on the above techniques, the framework will take the input dataset and fed into the feature selection techniques block, which selects any one techniques that gives the least number of attributes and then classification task is done using two algorithms, the same attributes that are selected by two classification task is taken for the prediction of heart disease. This framework consumes the time for predicting the symptoms of heart disease which make the user to know the important attributes based on the proposed framework.

Feature selection for multiple water quality status: integrated bootstrapping...
STORET is one method to determine the river water quality, and to classify them into four classes (very good, good, medium and bad) based on the data of water for each attribute or feature. The success of the formation of pattern recognition model much depends on the quality of data. There are two issues as the concern of this research as follows, the data having disproportionate amount among the classes (imbalance class) and the finding of noise on its attribute. Therefore, this research integrates the SMOTE Technique and bootstrapping to handle the problem of imbalance class. While an experiment is conducted to eliminate the noise on the attribute by using some feature selection algorithms with filter approach (information gain, rule, derivation, correlation and chi square). This research has some stages as follows: data understanding, pre-processing, imbalance class, feature selection, classification and performance evaluation. Based on the result of testing using 10-fold cross validation, it shows that the use of the SMOTE-bootstrapping technique is able to increase the accuracy from 83.3% to be 98.8%. While the process of noise elimination onthe data attribute is also able to increase the accuracy to be 99.5% (the use of feature subset produced by the information gain algorithm and the decision tree classification algorithm).

Abstract Many of the research or development projects are constructed and vast type of artifacts are released such as article, patent, report of research, conference papers, journal papers, experimental data and so on. The searching of the particular context through the keywords from the repository is not an easy task because the earliest system the problem of huge recalls with low precision. This paper challenges to construct a search algorithm based on the ontology to retrieve the relevant contexts. Ontology's are great knowledge of retrieving the context. In this paper, we utilize the WordNet ontology to retrieve the relevant contexts from the document repository. It is very difficult to retrieve the relevant context in its original format since we use the pre-processing step, which helps to retrieve context. The pre-processing step includes two major steps first one is stop word removal and the second one is stemming process. The outcome of the pre-processing step is indexing consist of important keywords and their corresponding keywords. When the user enter the keyword to the system, the ontology makes the several steps to make the refine keywords. Finally, the refine keywords are matched with index and relevant contexts are retrieved. The experimentation process is carried out with the help of different set of contexts to achieve the results and the performance analysis of the proposed approach is estimated by the evaluation metrics like precision, recall and F-measure. Predicting students' performance using id3 and c4.5 classification algorithms
An educational institution needs to have an approximate prior knowledge of enrolled students to predict
their performance in future academics. This helps them to identify promising students and also provides
them an opportunity to pay attention to and improve those who would probably get lower grades. As a
solution, we have developed a system which can predict the performance of students from their previous
performances using concepts of data mining techniques under Classification. We have analyzed the data
set containing information about students, such as gender, marks scored in the board examinations of
classes X and XII, marks and rank in entrance examinations and results in first year of the previous batch
of students. By applying the ID3 (Iterative Dichotomiser 3) and C4.5 classification algorithms on this data,
we have predicted the general and individual performance of freshly admitted students in future
examinations.

Three different neural models namely direct, correlation based and hierarchical have been developed to handle this issue. In a very hostile input environment, the solution is developed to justify the proposed logic.

SPSS: An Effective Tool to Compute Learning Outcomes in Acadamics
OBJECTIVES: To determine how SPSS can be a useful tool to evaluate Course Learning Outcomes and analyze student's performance with the help of KS test, histogram and skewness of the tool. It is also contributing to facilitate Deep learning amongst students with the help of achievement of normal distribution of grades. METHODS: Comparative analysis is done using course specification, syllabus, assessment method(Final Exam Question paper is taken as tool) and result statistics for the course of STATISTICAL PROGRAMMING (217 CSM), 3rd year (level 5 course) that is part of BCS curriculum in department of Computer Science, College of computer Science in King Khalid University. Teaching strategies are compared for two years. i.e; 2013 and 2014. Moreover the research inferences the relevance of application of NCAAA standards in meeting Learning outcomes of any module for department of Computer Science, CCS, KKU. RESULTS: Comparison of question papers depict that now students are motivated to have deep learning in terms of understanding, solving, reasoning based questions as contrast to shallow learning (memorized questions) in the past. It is indeed improving Learning domains too (Knowledge, Cognitive, Interpersonal and Communication skills) more effectively than in the past. Also grade distribution is Normal with well-defined curve for 2014 as compared to 2013 having variation in Standard deviation too. Teacher centered learning lead to surface learning. After NCAA standards implementation, there is more focus on learned centered teaching. Design of learning assessments is in such a way that it should meet learning outcomes successfully. CONCLUSIONS: The research is contributing in flourishing the personality of the students to produce qualified graduates with excellence in communication, logically and technically capable enough to share their knowledge nationally and internationally with much more confidence at any platform. Also it is opening door for researchers to evaluate their performance with the help of SPSS in academics or anywhere where we want to gather.
BugLoc: Bug Localization in Multi Threaded Application via Graph Mining Approach
Detection of software bugs and its occurrences, repudiation and its root cause is a very difficult process in large multi threaded applications. It is a must for a software developer or software organization to identify bugs in their applications and to remove or overcome them. The application should be protected from malfunctioning. Many of the compilers and Integrated Development Environments are effectively identifying errors and bugs in applications while running or compiling, but they fail in detecting actual cause for the bugs in the running applications. The developer has to reframe or recreate the package with the new one without bugs. It is time consuming and effort is wasted in Software Development Life Cycle. There is a possibility to use graph mining techniques in detecting software bugs. But there are many problems in using graph mining techniques. Managing large graph data, processing nodes with links and processing subgraphs are the problems to be faced in graph mining approach. This paper presents a novel algorithm named BugLoc which is capable of detecting bugs from the multi threaded software application. The BugLoc uses object template to store graph data which reduces graph management complexities. It also uses substring analysis method in detecting frequent subgraphs. The BugLoc then analyses frequent subgraphs to detect exact location of the software bugs. The experimental results show that the algorithm is very efficient, accurate and scalable for large graph dataset.
Motion Object Detection Using BGS Technique
The detection of moving object is an important in many applications such as a vehicle identification in a traffic monitoring system,human detection in a crime branch.In this paper we identify a vehicle in a video sequence.This paper briefly explain the detection of moving vehicle in a video.We introduce a new algorithm BGS for idntifying vehicle in a video sequence. First, we differentiate the foreground from background in frames by learning the background. Then, the image is divided into many small nonoverlapped frames. The candidates of the vehicle part can be found from the frames if there is some change in gray level between the current image and the background. The extracted background subtraction method is used in subsequent analysis to detect a vehicle and classify moving vehicle.

This paper presents an implementation of one dimensional Burgers equation using implicit method with Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessor. In particular, we used MAGMA MIC library which is an open source high performance library for solving a systems of non-linear equations. Further for high performance computation we consider offload mode as the primary mode of operation for Intel Xeon phi coprocessor. The result obtained from implicit scheme is then compared with the exact values and it’s seen that the results obtained are approximate and reliable. The result table showed that the proposed scheme achieved higher performance on Intel MIC platform.

Many studies have been proved that several types of heart diseases are possible in diabetic patients having a high blood sugar. Many approaches were proposed to diagnose both Diabetes and heart diseases. Most of the diabetes people can also have heart diseases called as Diabetic Cardiomyopathy. The earliest manifestation of diabetic cardiomyopathy is needed certain processes. The objective of the study is to examine the association of heart disease and diabetes. The relationship between diabetes and cardiovascular diseases are examined by taking into account of age, sex and associated diabetic and cardiovascular risk factors. The data are collected from patients with diabetes. From these data, features are selected by ant colony optimization and those selected features are given to hybrid PSO-LIBSVM to classify abnormal and normal data. This performance is evaluated using performance metrics and proved this classifiers efficiency for detection of Diabetic Cardiomyopathy.
Format Preserving Encryption for Small Domain
Cryptography is important in communicating secured information that is vulnerable to distortion. The main goal of this paper is encrypting the small arbitrary length data without any changes in the length and data type. We propose a flexible arbitrary length small domain block cipher (FPESD). FPESD is based on AES Algorithm. The resulting cipher text is the same as input plaintext. Here, we use Galois finite field GF (28) and format preserving key to implement FPE. For decryption format preserving key is used along with cipher text and secret key.

Test Suite Reduction is an optimization technique to identify the minimally sized subset of test cases with enforced constraints involved. The main purpose of test suite reduction is to deduce increased number of test cases that in turn increase the time and cost involved in execution. Fault Detection is the method of identifying the faults that affect the outcome of the system either logically or syntactically. This paper focuses on the reduction of the test suite that has high fault identification rates and also incurs low cost of execution of test cases. The proposed approach includes a new parameter Fault Detection Effectiveness to identify fault rates of test suite; an algorithm for test suite reduction based on priority of requirements; a low cost framework to identify the execution of test cases with minimum budget. Thus, the proposed work defines a test suite that has high fault detection effectiveness providing maximum coverage to requirements at minimum cost of execution.

As the e-commerce is gaining popularity various customer surveys of objects are currently accessible on the Internet. These surveys are frequently disordered, prompting challenges in knowledge discovery and object assessment. This article proposes an object feature positioning skeleton, which consequently recognizes the critical features of an object from online customer surveys. The critical object features are recognized focused around two perceptions: 1) they are normally commented extensively by customers and 2) customer suppositions on the critical feature significantly impact their general assessments on the object. Specifically, given the customer surveys of an item, we first extract the object feature by a shallow reliance parser and focus customer suppositions on these features through an opinion characterizer. We then create a probabilistic object feature positioning calculation to identify the criticalness of perspectives by at the same time considering feature recurrence and the impact of customer opinion given to every feature over their general opinion. The experimental results on 3 popular products demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

Micro-Neuro-Sensor Recording of STN Neurons of the Human Brain
What cause to the neurons of the human brain cells when they are damaged. They become inactive. So damage to subthalamiuc nucleus (STN) neurons of the human brain causing larger involuntary movements and thereby attacking the Parkinson’s disease (PD). Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of bilateral sub thalamic nuclei (STN) is an efficient method of rehabilitation technique in subjects with advanced idiopathic Parkinson’s (or Parkinson) disease. Accurate targeting of STN neurons and placement of microelectrodes/ (neurosensors) are paramount importance for optimal results after STN-DBS method.In this paper, microminiaturized electrode recordings (MER) of STN neurons were detected in a mean of 3.5 ±1.1 channels on right hemisphere and 3.6 ±1.04 on left hemisphere.Final channel selected were most commonly central seen in 42.3% followed by anterior in 33.7%. When a high current is delivered to STN or GPi neurons of basal ganglia (a component of human brain), causing their inhibition and improved indication of symptoms. It is now known that there is a significant change in the firing pattern and a reorganization of the entire basal ganglia circuit with DBS. The MER of STN neurons has identified a specific high frequency irregular larger amplitude firing patterns seen only in disease states and hence used to detect the neurons of ST nucleus during functional surgery. Microelectrode recording is so useful to confirm the right path but has to be taken in consideration with effects on macro stimulation.

Agile software development has been gaining popularity and replacing the traditional methods of developing software. However, estimating the size and effort in Agile software development still remains a challenge. Measurement practices in agile methods are more important than traditional methods, because lack of appropriate an effective measurement practices will increase the risk of project. This paper discuss about traditional and agile effort estimation model, and analysis done on how the metrics are used in estimation process. The paper also suggeststo use object point and use case point to improve accuracy of effort in agile software development.

We characterize the earliest galaxy population in the JADES Origins Field (JOF), the deepest
imaging field observed with JWST. We make use of the ancillary Hubble optical images (5 filters
spanning 0.4−0.9µm) and novel JWST images with 14 filters spanning 0.8−5µm, including 7 mediumband filters, and reaching total exposure times of up to 46 hours per filter. We combine all our data
at > 2.3µm to construct an ultradeep image, reaching as deep as ≈ 31.4 AB mag in the stack and
30.3-31.0 AB mag (5σ, r = 0.1” circular aperture) in individual filters. We measure photometric
redshifts and use robust selection criteria to identify a sample of eight galaxy candidates at redshifts
z = 11.5 − 15. These objects show compact half-light radii of R1/2 ∼ 50 − 200pc, stellar masses of
M⋆ ∼ 107−108M⊙, and star-formation rates of SFR ∼ 0.1−1 M⊙ yr−1
. Our search finds no candidates
at 15 < z < 20, placing upper limits at these redshifts. We develop a forward modeling approach to
infer the properties of the evolving luminosity function without binning in redshift or luminosity that
marginalizes over the photometric redshift uncertainty of our candidate galaxies and incorporates the
impact of non-detections. We find a z = 12 luminosity function in good agreement with prior results,
and that the luminosity function normalization and UV luminosity density decline by a factor of ∼ 2.5
from z = 12 to z = 14. We discuss the possible implications of our results in the context of theoretical
models for evolution of the dark matter halo mass function.
THE IMPORTANCE OF MARTIAN ATMOSPHERE SAMPLE RETURN.
The return of a sample of near-surface atmosphere from Mars would facilitate answers to several first-order science questions surrounding the formation and evolution of the planet. One of the important aspects of terrestrial planet formation in general is the role that primary atmospheres played in influencing the chemistry and structure of the planets and their antecedents. Studies of the martian atmosphere can be used to investigate the role of a primary atmosphere in its history. Atmosphere samples would also inform our understanding of the near-surface chemistry of the planet, and ultimately the prospects for life. High-precision isotopic analyses of constituent gases are needed to address these questions, requiring that the analyses are made on returned samples rather than in situ.

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) provides means to characterize brain activations in response to behavior. However, cognitive neuroscience has been limited to group-level effects referring to the performance of specific tasks. To obtain the functional profile of elementary cognitive mechanisms, the combination of brain responses to many tasks is required. Yet, to date, both structural atlases and parcellation-based activations do not fully account for cognitive function and still present several limitations. Further, they do not adapt overall to individual characteristics. In this talk, I will give an account of deep-behavioral phenotyping strategies, namely data-driven methods in large task-fMRI datasets, to optimize functional brain-data collection and improve inference of effects-of-interest related to mental processes. Key to this approach is the employment of fast multi-functional paradigms rich on features that can be well parametrized and, consequently, facilitate the creation of psycho-physiological constructs to be modelled with imaging data. Particular emphasis will be given to music stimuli when studying high-order cognitive mechanisms, due to their ecological nature and quality to enable complex behavior compounded by discrete entities. I will also discuss how deep-behavioral phenotyping and individualized models applied to neuroimaging data can better account for the subject-specific organization of domain-general cognitive systems in the human brain. Finally, the accumulation of functional brain signatures brings the possibility to clarify relationships among tasks and create a univocal link between brain systems and mental functions through: (1) the development of ontologies proposing an organization of cognitive processes; and (2) brain-network taxonomies describing functional specialization. To this end, tools to improve commensurability in cognitive science are necessary, such as public repositories, ontology-based platforms and automated meta-analysis tools. I will thus discuss some brain-atlasing resources currently under development, and their applicability in cognitive as well as clinical neuroscience.

Normal Cell Metabolism:
Cellular respiration describes the series of steps that cells use to break down sugar and other chemicals to get the energy we need to function.
Energy is stored in the bonds of glucose and when glucose is broken down, much of that energy is released.
Cell utilize energy in the form of ATP.
The first step of respiration is called glycolysis. In a series of steps, glycolysis breaks glucose into two smaller molecules - a chemical called pyruvate. A small amount of ATP is formed during this process.
Most healthy cells continue the breakdown in a second process, called the Kreb's cycle. The Kreb's cycle allows cells to “burn” the pyruvates made in glycolysis to get more ATP.
The last step in the breakdown of glucose is called oxidative phosphorylation (Ox-Phos).
It takes place in specialized cell structures called mitochondria. This process produces a large amount of ATP. Importantly, cells need oxygen to complete oxidative phosphorylation.
If a cell completes only glycolysis, only 2 molecules of ATP are made per glucose. However, if the cell completes the entire respiration process (glycolysis - Kreb's - oxidative phosphorylation), about 36 molecules of ATP are created, giving it much more energy to use.

RNA INTERFERENCE: UNRAVELING GENETIC SILENCING
Introduction:
RNA interference (RNAi) or Post-Transcriptional Gene Silencing (PTGS) is an important biological process for modulating eukaryotic gene expression.
It is highly conserved process of posttranscriptional gene silencing by which double stranded RNA (dsRNA) causes sequence-specific degradation of mRNA sequences.
dsRNA-induced gene silencing (RNAi) is reported in a wide range of eukaryotes ranging from worms, insects, mammals and plants.
This process mediates resistance to both endogenous parasitic and exogenous pathogenic nucleic acids, and regulates the expression of protein-coding genes.
What are small ncRNAs?

short interfering RNA (siRNA)
Properties of small non-coding RNA:
Involved in silencing mRNA transcripts.
Called “small” because they are usually only about 21-24 nucleotides long.
Synthesized by first cutting up longer precursor sequences (like the 61nt one that Lee discovered).
Silence an mRNA by base pairing with some sequence on the mRNA.

In 1993 Rosalind Lee (Victor Ambros lab) was studying a non- coding gene in C. elegans, lin-4, that was involved in silencing of another gene, lin-14, at the appropriate time in the
development of the worm C. elegans.
Two small transcripts of lin-4 (22nt and 61nt) were found to be complementary to a sequence in the 3' UTR of lin-14.
Because lin-4 encoded no protein, she deduced that it must be these transcripts that are causing the silencing by RNA-RNA interactions.

MECHANISM OF RNAI:
First the double-stranded RNA teams up with a protein complex named Dicer, which cuts the long RNA into short pieces.
Then another protein complex called RISC (RNA-induced silencing complex) discards one of the two RNA strands.
The RISC-docked, single-stranded RNA then pairs with the homologous mRNA and destroys it.
THE RISC COMPLEX:
RISC is large(>500kD) RNA multi- protein Binding complex which triggers MRNA degradation in response to MRNA
