June grass is a perennial bunchgrass native to northern regions including parts of Europe, Asia, and southern California. It grows 1-3 feet tall and 1-2 feet wide, with long, narrow leaves. It blooms from April to July, producing golden-brown flower stalks above the leaves. June grass requires full sun to part shade and well-drained soil, going dormant in late summer. It spreads slowly and provides good habitat for birds and cover for slopes but may be outcompeted by aggressive grasses.
