Coast Range Melic Grass is a cool-season, perennial bunchgrass native to northern California and Baja California. It forms a bright green, fountain-like mound 1-3 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. In summer it dies back to the ground but returns in spring with small flowers on arched stems rising above the foliage. It is one of the most attractive native ornamental grasses and makes a lovely addition to meadows, grassy borders, and natural gardens, where it requires sun or light shade and average soil.
