Orphanages In The 1900s Research Paper
Orphanages in the 1900s
Orphanages back then were defined as kids without parents. A lot of the kids with single parents
were neglected. The orphans felt sad because they think about their parents. The kids were
abandoned or their homes were over crowded. Some kids were left on their own. The
Orphanages conditions were horrible. The kids would live in a life of crime because of it. Boys
were taught a trade and the girls were brought up to do domestic work. Some orphans were
treated bad or was neglected by the families that adopted them because they were in a higher
social class. Thesis Some orphans lived a life of crime because of the conditions in the orphanages.

The orphans are sad because they have to live with a family that they don t know. I lie to myself
thinking that my family will come back . It means that they have hope in their parents to find them.
Somewhere I will find my parents and never let them go. If the kids ever find their parents they
don t want them to leave again.
Orphanages are the only place that left me empty and full at the same time . It left them full
because they weren t the only ones left by their parents. It made them feel full because some adults
were around to help and there were some nice kids.
Some orphans have hope, some have strength. Orphans have faith that that they will be adopted.
Some have the strength to say that they will someday have a new family. Orphans are waiting.
They are waiting to be adopted or to die without a family.
The best house is the house where an orphan gets love and kindness. An orphan can have a lot of
homes but the best one is where they get treated right.

Illegal Firearm Possession And Illegal Firearms Possession
On February 28, 1997, Larry Phillips, Jr. and Emil MДѓtДѓsДѓreanu armed with AK 47s entered
Bank of America in North Hollywood in an attempt to rob it. Phillips had been in trouble with the
police since his youth and had already spent 3 months in jail for illegal firearm possession.
MДѓtДѓsДѓreanu acted as his loyal co conspirator. Not only were they wanted for armed robbery
but also for murder, after killing a security guard in a heist in 1995. Armed with five machine gun,
three handguns, as well as illegal 100 round drums. Parked in the north bank parking lot in a white

MДѓtДѓsДѓreanu exits using the south door, Phillips exits the north. Having not expected officers
to already be on scene, Phillips and MДѓtДѓsДѓreanu were trapped in by blocking intersection
north and south of the bank with patrol cars, as well as a 2 meter high wall to the back of the
bank. On Laurel Canyon and Archwood Street, an intersection north of the bank, Officers Martin
Whitfield and Sergeant Dean Haines take a position. Seeing two civilians, Tracy Fisher and a
friend, walking in the direction of the bank Sergeant Daines orders them behind the his patrol car.
Phillips opens fire on police, bullets go through the patrol car police and the civilians were using
as cover. Fisher s friend is shot and Fisher was then shot in the leg. The bullets Phillips and
MДѓtДѓsДѓreanu were using were steel plates, which were able to penetrate car metal.
MДѓtДѓsДѓreanu gets into the chevy and called for Phillips, but Phillips stayed and
MДѓtДѓsДѓreanu followed. Sergeant Haines is shot and radios for assistance. Receiving the officer
down call was 911 trainee Guadalupe De La Cruz, to which she then relays.
Parked in the parking lot across the street from the bank Officers James Zboravan and his partner
Steward Guy take cover behind a kiosk 40 meters away from the bank. Unlike the majority of the

The Oklahoma Home Front
On April 6, 1917, the United States entered the Great War with the vast majority of the American
populace supporting the ingress. Although there were some dissenting opinions on America
intervening in the war. This dissent was typically seen from marginal groups of Irish and German
immigrants who either had harsh feelings toward Great Britain or felt uneasy about fighting
against family members in Germany. These demographics would be swayed by society to reform
their views, or in some extreme cases be forced to. Furthermore, several groups who were not
expected to support the war were given an opportunity to show their patriotism. Surprisingly, this
could be seen by groups of African and Native Americans who were wanting to gain credibility...

These sentiments could be seen across the country, and in worse cases citizens acted upon these
notions. As Farwell recalled, Those bearing German names were often molested, and in places
lynched. Because of this those bearing German names changed them and several towns did as well.
These views were commonly rooted in the belief that the German immigrants were spies, which
was a nearly identical assumption the Young Turks made against their Armenian demographic.
Nevertheless, these beliefs would dominate the American public throughout the war, and one
cannot help but to theorize that the excessive propaganda and government intervention caused
some of these biases to formulate in a small town like Tulsa. As it would be difficult not to want
to defend one s country if the enemy being presented is of a barbaric gorilla rapaciously clutching
onto a woman that symbolizes the Statue of Liberty. Even those who were illiterate in Tulsa would
be able to discern from this poster that the enemy they were facing was not to be shown mercy or
sympathy. Which in turn potentially caused perceptions of German Americans to be hyperbolized
and soured. No person of German heritage was thought. Even the renowned brewmaster Adolphus

Alternate Dispute Resolution For Resolving Civil Disputes
Alternate Dispute Resolution has many benefits serving as a legal substitute for resolving civil
disputes. Most courts prefer the proceedings of an ADR as oppose to Litigation. In some counties,
the option of ADR must be analyzed before attempting to initiate the proceedings of litigation. Most
district courts along with appeal courts will oversee the courts, and will resolve the remaining
disputes. Alternate Dispute Resolutionis a large part of our legal system, which many citizens rely
on to settle civil disputes. ADR has been a part of US legal history since the times of the colonies.
Alternate Dispute Resolution, better known as (ADR) in the legal field, was first used in the late
1800 s. ADR was initially used, not to replace or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It outlines the essential elements of ADR philosophy and practice under the Texas ADR Act and
addresses common concerns and questions about ADR. However, those considering use of any
ADR process should be familiar with the full range of dispute resolution options and related laws.
A comprehensive guide to ADR in Texas is provided by the Handbook of Alternative Dispute
Resolution.
ADR PROCEDURES
The Act lists five ADR procedures available to Texas citizens; mediation
, mini trial, moderated
settlement conference, summary jury trial and nonbinding arbitration. In addition, variations or
combinations of the five basic procedures can be used if acceptable to parties and to the court.
These procedures can be modified with the agreement of the parties and any court involved and
hybrid ADR procedures devised. Thus, each attorney and court is afforded an opportunity to design
a process that best fits the case and the people involved.
SETTING THE STAGE FOR ADR
The first step in preparing for an ADR proceeding is to select the type of ADR that best fits the
case. The 1987 ADR legislation lists five nonexclusive procedures above and these procedures
vary in their applicability, level of client participation and formality. Mediation, especially, is often
used before the parties file suit or even contact attorneys. Mediation and moderated settlement
conferences can be used in a broad spectrum of cases and at many points as a

Slavery Frederick Douglass Analysis
The Wonderful Life
In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, Frederick Douglass mentions
that slaves do not have the privilege to have an education. In Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle explains
that without happiness, doing something good will not really matter because you will not be
happy. In Slavery, Jean Jacques Rousseau mentions that war is not the key to end slavery because
war is only for states not against man to man. In Thinking in Education, John Dewey says that
thinking is another method in learning because it will help students reflect on things. Life can be
wonderful if people learn to find ways to keep that happiness in them.

Dewey says that people have dwelt especially on the negative side because we let our minds
think that there is a specific way of thinking (6). As people keep growing, their knowledge keeps
developing. While people keep learning, they have to learn to accept somethings. One of those
things is by simply being able to accept that if a paper is wrong is wrong but at least they tried.
Looking at a paper or project that is wrong sometimes frightens people but it should not be that
way because those who have bad papers become the best ones. Even though, people are wrong
that should not stop with their education because of that. Meanwhile, Douglass was doing his
chores, he was able to take bread from home and share with the little white boys who, in return,
would give [him] more valuable bread of knowledge which was able to help him with his
reading and writing (2). Being wrong does not mean that this is the end, instead is a way to
motivate yourself to do the best as you can to achieve something better. People should not be
letdown when they do something wrong because no one is perfect. People just find ways to
learn even if I some cases they do thigs wrong. The whole point of this is to be able to learn and be
wrong. People should not be disappointed if they do a paper and they do not pass. They will just
keep in mind their mistakes for

A Rose For Emily Symbolism
William Faulkner s classic short story A Rose for Emily is the somewhat disturbing tale of
Emily Grierson and her strange life. Split into five parts, the story flashes back and forth
between Emily s funeral and memories of Emily from the viewpoint of the unknown narrator.
The narrator remembers times when Emily refused to pay taxes, and another time when men
went and put lime on Emily s yard because her house smelled so awful. When Emily s father
died, it took three days for her to stop denying his death and let him be buried. The summer after
her father s death, A Yankee named Homer Barron started seeing Emily, which was a big deal
because her father had never let her date. One day, Emily went to a druggist and bought arsenic
with no explanation, and the town thought she was going to kill herself. However, she did not,
and the townspeople even assumed she and Homer got married, but they never saw him again. It
was not until Emily died, and they felt enough time had passed, that the people broke down one
of her doors that had been unopened for forty years. They found the decaying body of Homer
Barron laying in the bed, along with a strand of Emily s gray hair on the pillow beside him.
Although the story may just sound like a gruesome tale of a woman with necrophilia, there can be
other meanings found through symbolism. A symbol creates a direct, meaningful connection
between a specific object, scene, character, or action. In A Rose for Emily, Emily can be seen as a

The Death Of A Salesman By Arthur Miller And Fences
And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a
dream deeply rooted in the American dream, Martin Luther King Jr. The American Dream is
simply the idea that every person has the same chance to achieve success through hard work.
The Death of Salesman by Arthur Miller and Fences by August Wilson closely hold a relatable
pursuit of the American dream. In both texts, the parents and children were torn apart from each
other because of their pursuit of the American Dream. This goal (American Dream) tears the
families apart because in Fences Cory wants to follow Troy s footsteps by playing a professional
sport, but Troy doesn t want him to get involved in sports because of he has experienced... Show

That s whose fault it is!, (Miller 131). Both of these fathers want to see their family succeed, but get
caught up in family problems and both end up passing away.
The mothers of these plays were key contributors to attempting to help their families get back
together. Rose tries to bring her family back together by making the boy build a fence in the
quote, Cory:I don t see why Mama want a fence around the yard nowadays. Troy: Damn if i
know either. What the hell she keeping out with it? She ain t got nothing nobody want.
Bono:Some people build to keep others out... and other people build fences to keep people in.
Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you, (Wilson 2.1.32). This is a great point made by
Nono because Rose is trying to make the boys bond by making them put together a fence,
symbolising the reconstruction of their relationship. In the Death of a Salesman, Linda repeatedly
attempts to keep the family together, especially in the quote, Biff: Will you let me go, for Christ
s sake? Will you take that phony dream and burn it before something happens? I ll go in the
morning. Put him put him to bed. Willy: Isn t that isn t that remarkable? Biff he likes me!
LINDA: He loves you, Willy!, (Miller 133). This perfectly showcases how Linda is a vital piece to
the Loman family, because without her their family would probably have been separated. It s
evident that

The Community Needs Assessment For The Town Of...
The idea behind the community needs assessment for the town of Wallingford, Connecticut was to
critique the overall nutritional needs and health of the community. While preparing a community
needs assessment, some factors to consider are: government, programs both profit and non profit,
demographics, and the economy of the community. Wallingford, Connecticut is a relatively
small town just breaking 45,135 residents. Situated between New Haven and Hartford it is
approximately thirty nine square miles. Wallingford has a mayor council type of government;
being led by Mayor William W. Dickinson Jr. who has been in office as mayor for thirty years.
The town has also inputted a charter of which has been effective since January 1, 1962. In
addition to the mayor, voters elect the town council, the board of education and the state legislator.
The town council elects two chairman in addition to various other members. A superintendent
leads the board of education; as of right now Salvatore Menzo holds the position. The board of
education is then broken down to a chair and vice chair in addition to various representatives under
these positions. The state legislator representing the town of Wallingford is Mary Muchinsky, 85th
district. Wallingford s population consists of 51% females and 49% males. Although the ratio of
males to females is nearly half and half this isn t the case with nationalities in the town. The

prehistoric times, however, as times passes, music is drastically changing. As a result, in the last
decades music has experienced drastic changes in the themes they are talking about. These
changes are due to the generations and what they are living, political and social actions of the
time. For example, the decade of the 80s was the rise of hip hop and rap music from a local

What Are The Five Elements Of Housebreaking
1.4 Elements of housebreaking
In South African law, housebreaking consists of five elements. These elements are a crucial part of
the crime, the reason is simple: all of the elements must be present in order for a perpetrator to be
guilty of housebreaking with the intent to commit a crime.
1.4.1 Breaking
Breaking refers to a perpetrator that displaces some obstruction, which forms part of the premises,
in order to create an entry onto that premises. Breaking can take effect when a lock, window or
door is forced open or broken. A displacement of a fragment of a structureor building can occur,
which indicates an interior break of the premises (example: a safe inside a home).
Physical damage is no longer an aspect of breaking, because if the perpetrator opens a door or
window and it s partly open and or not locked it s still considered breaking. Therefor it s important
to realise that there must be a displacement of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s important to remember that there will always be borderline cases that are unclear if it s a
premise or not. De wet: it does not matter a premise of human habitation is movable or immovable
but a premise that is used for storage must be immovable, otherwise it s not a premise.
Temmers have two structures to help determine premises. Firstly it s the structures which are goods
that are kept and stored in safeguard. This means that the crime of housebreaking with intent to
commit a crime can be committed against premises used for storage. This structure was accepted
as a way to commit the crime of housebreaking by the courts. Secondly it s the structures where
goods can be placed for the ease of storage. The crime can be committed against any container that s
being used as human inhabitation, even if the structure is weak. This crime can according to the
court not be committed against such a structure that is weak or easily

Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura Research Paper
Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a rare disease that people would never know existed
unless affected by it. The disease is characterized by individuals having extremely low platelets
levels. Platelets are created from megakaryocytes that are located within the bone marrow. The
megakaryocytes break off pieces small enough to leave the bone marrow and join the other blood
cells circulating in the body. Platelets are responsible for clotting the blood when an injury

are responsible for activating other clotting factors found in the blood. If someone does not have
adequate platelets, such as individuals affected byITP, they may not be able to clot their blood.
For a simple scratch it is not too worrisome, but if the individual falls or hits their head they can
experience internal bleeding that can be fatal if not treated. Two symptoms are hallmarks for ITP.
They include petichiae, micro hemorrhaging of vessels that typically occurs on the lower

ITP was related to the platelets themselves. The Harrington Hollingsworth experiment had given the

Compare And Contrast Classical Conditioning And...
3.To test which rats had received Pavlovian and which, instrumental conditioning would be to
perform extinction. Extinction involves repeatedly presenting the conditioned stimulus without the
unconditioned stimulus. Extinction that occurs in classical conditioning happens when a
conditioned stimulus is no longer paired with an unconditioned stimulus. Therefore, for one group,
you would remove the tone. In operant conditioning, the extinction can occur if the trained
behavior is no longer reinforced. Thus, for another group, extinguish tone and food. By doing
this, I would see that the classically conditioned rat s behavior would decline quicker than the
operant conditioned rats. Also, another way to test this is to look at the delay in behaviors. In
classically conditioned rats, it uses short delay conditioning in which the conditioned stimulus
begins a second or so before the unconditioned stimulus. Thus, if you used long delay
conditioning, the classically conditioned rats behavior of turning around to receive the food
would slowly decrease. This is because the classically conditioned rats are used to the short delay
and when the long delay is used the behavior will slowly decrease. In classically conditioned rats,
you would see that the timing of the conditioned response will slowly decrease. With the operant
conditioned rats, you would see that their responses will not decrease as quickly as the classically
conditioned rats. This is because the operant conditioned rats

Life in the 1940s
1940 s When you think of the 1940 s, what comes to your mind? Maybe an image of a time
where everything was boring and nothing interesting was happening. However, this is not the
case. It was a time where people were on the move for a World War, and inventions were being
made daily. The 40 s were a time when the United States was becoming a leader in new
technologies to simplify the country s way of life and to protect its citizens from other countries
as well as the people who might think that they are better than you just because they are white.
People in the United States were starting to invent gadgets to make life easier. In 1945, one of
the main inventions was a computer named ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator And
Computer). This was a huge step for the United States, and it allowed new technology to be
made that could not be before. The ENIAC was a giant computer that stood two stories tall and
weighed thirty tons. This super computer was a secret military project during World War II that
was carried out by Jon Mauchly and John Presper Eckert Junior. ENIAC was invented to speed up
the mathematical calculations that were needed to make ballistic firing tables for the Army and to
design atomic weaponry. This super computer could add 5,000 numbers in one second. This might
not seem like very fast compared to today s technology, but this was a 1,000 times faster than any
machine at this time. I explained what was to be done and pushed the button for it to be

Medical Terminology 1

Sickle Cell Anemia Sickle cell Anemia is a genetic blood disorder caused by the presence of an
abnormal form of hemoglobin molecules in which the red blood cells loose their disc shape and
become crescent shaped. The shape also known as hemoglobin S . unlike normal red cells which
are usually smooth and malleable, tend to collect after releasing oxygen, and cannot squeeze
through small blood vessels. The organs are then deprived of blood and oxygen. The basic life span
of an affected cell is generally from 1.5 to about 3 weeks, which represents approximately 10% to

There is no cure for Sickle cell Disease and adults with the trait are wise to thoroughly consider the
possible effects of procreating with another person with the disease.
As in other areas of modern healthcare, advances in technology have facilitated its early detection.
Prenatal tests include Amniocentesis, and chorionic villus sampling. Fortunately some countries
require newborn screening for hemoglobin problems, including Sickle cell Anemia making the
early detection and preventive measures possible
There exists much research and numerous clinical trials to examine possible causes. There
unfortunately seems to exist somewhat of a hesitancy by the generally affected groups to
participate in any abative efforts. The general consensus is one of feelings of mistrust of
government and science in general. Furthering the knowledge of, and finding funding are at present
the focus of several major organizations. Further information can be found in literature, and on the

Reflection About Living With God
The book is about living with God, instead of living over, under, for, or from him. It talks about
how important it is to be aware of how we think about God and our relationship with him. I
appreciate this book a lot because the day I accepted Christ was when I finally understood that
everything he did wasn t to get me a get out of hell free card, it was to be able to spend the rest of
this life drawing me closer to him and to spend eternity with him. In that regard, the first part of
the book was about what I expected, but as I was surprised, encouraged, and challenged as I got
further into the book.
The first point that stood out to me was the way we assign the way we value effectiveness to God;
we assume that he gauges success the same way we do. I love the way the author presented the
story of Moses striking the rock in the light of him doing only what he knew had worked in the
past. He followed a formula; and yes, he was effective, but he was not faithful or obedient. It is
possible to succeed without being in relationship with God. Along the same lines, one of the
most helpful ways I ve heard this concept presented is from Moses initial reaction with God; God
finding Moses and arguing back and forth with him while Moses makes excuse after excuse
about everything he can t do. God is not a God of efficiency. What would have been efficient is
snapping his fingers and freeing all the Israelite slaves from their captors in Egypt. But he chose to
work through Moses;

Biblical Heroism In Treasure Island By Robert Louis Stevenson
Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in
light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 states, Just as the Son of
Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (NIV). This
verse embodies one of the components of a true heros character. The biblical heroes mentioned
above were humble, led others by serving, counted others needs more significant than their own,
and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but
their lives demonstrate true biblical heroism in their strivings to honor God and serve others.
Noah obeyed God s command to build an ark and rescued his family and the animals from the
Flood. Moses led the grumbling people of Israel out of Egypt and into the desert after continually
pleading with Pharaoh to let them go leave Egypt. Joshua listened to God s instruction and led the
Israelites around Jericho s walls until they came tumbling down. Uninvited, Esther came into King
Nebuchadnezzar s presence, asking him and Haman to dinner where she would eventually expose
Haman s evil plans and save the Jews. In Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, the main
characters, Long John Silverand Jim Hawkins, do not measure up in comparison to this biblical
standard of heroism. Therefore, neither Silver nor Jim are heroes in the biblical light of heroism.

What Nutritional Problem Is Common

the brain and spine that are present at birth. They usually appear during a woman s first month of

Many times a woman does not know she is pregnant so she does not take a folic acid
supplementation. Women should be consuming .4mg of folic acid before and during pregnancy.
Women that have had a neural tube defect pregnancy should take 4.0 mg of folic acid a day to
prevent another neural tube defect pregnancy. Women should continue taking folic acid
supplements through the first trimester (Kumar, 2009).
A deficiency in folate can play a role in the development of neural tube defects in infants. The
authors found that low zinc levels and high copper levels may also play a role in neural tube
defects (Kumar, 2009). Folic acid has been fortified in enriched grains, such as, rice, cereal,
bread and pasta. Rice is one of India s staple foods. Rice fortification may help reduce the risk of
neural tube defects. Older children have been studied and fortified rice eliminated the
micronutrient deficiency in folate. (Thankachan, et al., 2012) The hope is that women will eat
enough of these foods to prevent a folate deficiency (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
2015). An earlier report found that 4.1 infants with neural tube defects out of 1,000 total births
reported having neural tube defects in India. The authors found that different states of India report
different numbers of neural tube defects. This is due to availability for food, poverty in certain
areas and availability of folic acid supplements. Each state had a different

In the early 1800s, America changed in a lot of ways in a short amount of time. The change that
occurred was, for the most part, the result of the industrial development. The industrial

But the industrial development from 1800 to 1860 affected the North and the South in hugely
different ways. The prominent differences eventually caused an amazing amount of tension

Though the majority of Southerners didn t own slaves, slaves were used in the South to keep the
revenue up, and slavery was very much a part of the agricultural lifestyle. Political tension between
the North and the South started early when there was disagreement over Henry Clay s American
System. The American System imposed tariffs to support northern manufacturing, federally funded
roads and canals, and supported the National Bank. Northerners were in support of the American
System but the South wasn t on board with the plan. This protective tariff was a tax on imports, and
since the South was receiving most of the imported goods, they got the brunt of the tariff. The
South believed it was unfair that it was putting money into the North s industrial economy when the
South was barely making enough revenue to support itself. While the South provided the Northern
industries with most of the raw materials they needed, the price the North paid for these things were
nothing compared to what the South had to pay for the manufactured goods the North produced.
The opposition to the American System was so strong that South Carolina declared the tariffs void
and threatened to leave the Union. But Andrew Jackson worked with South Carolina and the Union
remained whole. This was the Nullification Crisis of 1832. The two regions clashed politically too.

Chinese Literature Student Name Institution Affiliation Chinese Literature Throughout the human
revolution, the representation of the society through art has been a common phenomenon. On the
advent of literary skills of writing, people could represent their world better than before. However,
the artists were only allowed to present the social ideas in the acceptable or the classical ways.
Unfortunately, this traditional method of conveying knowledge or ideas was limited and somehow
unrealistic of what was truly happening in the community. The language had to be polished and
altered to fit the social standards. Nevertheless, as the traditional forms of leadership shifted slowly
from the feudal to more democratic ones,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diary is meant to brief the visiting friend on the man s behavior and thoughts while suffering
from the psychiatric disorder. Interestingly, Xun starts this story by using classical writing when
introducing the sane friend but totally switches to vernacular when writing the content of the
madman. The vernacular use enables the author to speak of the society as it is, using the very
words that are employed in the society. Therefore, this makes his work more realistic. Furthermore,
the themes that the author employs are authentic as well. Through realism writing movement, Xun
criticizes the four thousand years old feudal Chinese system which has perpetuated human
cannibalism. Through an insane man, the author exposes the real tribulations that everyday people
go through and have come to perceive it as part and parcel of their lives. Also, Xun uses
characterization to bring out the issues that would be considered uncomfortable in such
governance. Therefore, the madman character, who has the social freedom to say anything and is
more likely to be ignored, enables Xun to agonize the feudal system injustices. Apart from
characterization, Xun employs symbolism and hyperbole in his work. In A Madman s Diary, the
author uses cannibalism to symbolize the feudal Chinese system, which for thousands of years has
enabled the wealthy to further benefit off the poor. As a result, the gap between the poor and the
rich would never be bridged. Through the diarist, it is

Whiteness And Racism
In the past, and even today, the whites in United States had constructed the issue of racism and has
directed it towards certain ethnic groups throughout history to show superiority. This is referred to
as Whiteness , which is a socially constructed reality; This means one s skin color shapes a person s
view and lifestyle and is not inherent in an individual but determined by society. The term
whiteness does not necessarily hint at one s skin color or heritage but rather is a social position
within society. The ideology states that different ethnic groups within the United States must reach
whiteness in order to gain a social advantage to benefit themselves. This can result in certain groups
to essentially abandon their culture as well as the others who associate themselves with the said
ethnic culture. This grants ethnic groups to obtain a small amount of whiteness but are not
completely seen as white until the raceas a whole is accepted and seen as something that is
considered white culture.
Whiteness has been the reason for affecting national identity within the United States, primarily
because of the development of racism and how it has been directed towards specific groups. These
groups, unlike others, have failed and continue to fail at attaining a high social position, due to the
fact that some of the first groups were racially incorporated in society and were seen as a threat to
those who held a white , or the highest, status in society compared to other

The Olympics s Impact On The Olympic Arena
Ever since its inception in 1896, the Modern Olympics has hosted an invisible sport: politics. The
Olympics calls for a halt to all conflicts ... [and to] strive towards a more peaceful world, but
politics soon spoiled its biennial message. As the Olympics continue to dissolve into ... a political
competition ... they no longer ... justify the time and trouble, Dave Anderson, Pulitzer Prize winner
for his sports column, wrote in the New York Times in 1984. The Olympic spirit has routinely been
used as an outlet for political agendas. With political and Olympic ambitions intersected, the great
international sports festivity negatively affects all nations involved. World leaders frequently use
the Olympic arena as a stage for international... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boycotting has been used throughout history as an instrument for foreign policy. For any
Olympics to be a true Olympics, all the world s nations should be represented, said Anderson.
Not ... those ... on one side or the other of political barbed wire. As a result of boycott, the
essence of the games competition diminished. At the 1980 Olympics where the United States
decided to stay home, the Soviet Union swept 195 medals the largest won in history followed by
the United States in 1984 with 174 medals, when, by no surprise, the Soviets decided to miss.
Ironically, the spirit of the Olympics turned cold alongside the Cold War. [The domination as a
result of boycott] diminished any accomplishments in working hard, said Al Oerter, a four time
Olympic gold medal winner. The Olympic Games quickly turned into a game for politicians, not
the athletes. James Montague, the 2009 Best New Writer, wrote in CNN that Carter s idea of a
good, non military way of protesting the invasion was not effective, with the Soviet occupation of
Afghanistan lasting another eight years. The 1976 boycott was not effective either; the South
African apartheid regime survived another eighteen years. Boycotting did more damage at home
than it did away: it proved horrible for the Olympic movement and for athletes like Don Paige, a
renowned track runner, who was left to watch the race he knew he could win. The Olympics also
experiences political terrorism, which

Why Do Gamete Cells Come Into Play
Do you ever wonder how babies are made? Well, that s where gamete cells come into play.
Gamete cells are haploid cells, or reproductive cells. These cells possess one pair of chromosomes
from the parent. During meiosis, haploid cells are divided and the chromosomes fuse together
producing genetically new instructions. Gametecells play a crucial role in the development of a
baby.
Meiosis is the process in which the gamete cells turn from haploid to diploid. Meiosis involves
eight stages: Prophase 1, Metaphase 1, Anaphase 1, Telophase 1, Prophase 2, Metaphase 2,
Anaphase 2, and Telophase 2. Prophase 1 is when chromosomes cross over. The chromosomes
exchange genetic information making new and distinct traits. Metaphase 1 is when the crossed over

Dow Chemical Company HW
Dow Chemical Accounting Homework
Dow Chemical Company is a manufacturer and supplier of products used primarily as raw
materials in the manufacture of customer products and services. Its product lines include chemicals,
advanced materials, agro sciences and plastics businesses. Attached are the excerpts from Dow
Chemical s Annual report for 2012. Based on the information in the financial statements and
footnotes, please, answer the questions below. Assume a tax rate of 35%.
1. Which cost flow assumptions does Dow Chemical use to value its inventories?
Inventories are stated at the lower of cost or market. The method of determining cost for each
subsidiary varies among LIFO, FIFO, and average cost.
What is the value of inventories that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
LIFO liquidation may be due to company not purchasing any more inventory (the prices are too
high), and depleting its cheap inventory. When inventory costs are increasing, this results in higher
net income. Either involuntary (disruptions in supply) or voluntary (earnings management).
5. Suppose that Dow Chemical has no inventory left at the end of NEXT year (i.e., fiscal year
2013). Would Retained earnings at the end of fiscal year 2013 under their existing accounting
policy for inventories be higher than, lower than, or the same as what it would have been had they
used FIFO as a cost flow assumption for all of their inventories? If different, by how much? Explain.
Same as RE if they used FIFO. Since there will be nothing left in inventory after the year, Dow
Chemical would be using same inventory (and therefore the same inventory price for COGS) in
both scenarios.
Also b/c LIFO Reserve = Cum. pre tax income FIFO Cum. pre tax income LIFO = 0 = Cum. pre
tax income FIFO = Cum. pre tax income LIFO
How would your answer to above change if purchase prices for Dow Chemical s inventories are
expected to increase by approximately 50% in fiscal year 2013?
Would not change. The answer to this question is driven by the LIFO reserve in 2013, and, by
definition, that stays the same, at 0, regardless of how much inventory is purchased in 2013.
6. International Financial Reporting Standards do not permit the use of LIFO as a cost flow
assumption for inventory

How Did John Locke s View Of Government
During the seventeenth century it was mainly concerned with order and power. These concerns
were based upon the political philosophies of two Englishmen with both different beliefs and
thoughts. Both of these philosophers wrote a work on their political thoughts and how a
government should have been ruled.A response to the governmentcrises during the seventeenth
century was to find more steadiness and stability by increasing the power of the monarch.

Summary Of How Gut Bacteria Make Us Fat By Claudia Wallis
It is no secret that many Americans struggle with obesity. Claudia Wallis wrote an article titled
How Gut Bacteria Help Make Us Fat and Thin just over a year ago, which explores how
intestinal bacteria may determine if a person is obese or thin. New research has indicated that gut
bacteria alters the way we store fat, how we respond to the hormones that make us feel full or
hungry, and the way our glucose levels are balanced. The wrong mix of microbes may lead the way
for a person be obese or diabetic. Research was conducted comparing the intestinal bacteria of obese
and thin people, which showed that microbes in the thin individuals intestines where much more
diverse than that of an obese individuals. Studies showed that thin individuals

The Future Of Robot Caregivers Louise Aronson

our society in various ways. Some of the ways our society has benefited from the creation of robots
include transportation, home maintenance, home assistance, education, security, entertainment,
disabled assisted living, and even elderly assisted living. In the article The Future of Robot
Caregivers, the author, Louise Aronson, states that the idea of robot caregivers shouldn t be as
threatening as most people perceive. She also states that our society as whole, not just the elderly,
will benefit greatly in many aspects. For example, Aronson begins by mentioning that caregiving is

Essay On Social Identity
Social media is often praised for its ability to connect people worldwide, but in reality, it is
forcing us further apart; we are no longer individuals but are instead creating for ourselves a fake
social identity. Nicholas Carr, author of Is Google Making Us Stupid? focuses on how reading on
the Internethas made it almost impossible for us to do deep reading. In Just Between You, Me, and
My 622 BFF S, Peggy Orenstein looks at how social media has stolen younger girl s identities, and
formed their sexual identity. Chuck Klosterman in his article Electric Funeral sees the Internet as a
breeding ground for villains who feed off our primitive impulses to draw attention and fame to

When Google was first created, its goal was to organize the world s information and make it
universally accessible and useful ( How We Started and Where We Are Today ). There is
certainly nothing sinister in the mission statement, and undeniably Google has proved to be an
essential and convenient part of life. However, convenience is the dominant issue at play here.
Research no longer need hours to uncover; in as few as five minutes, one can have an answer,
source, or image ready to absorb and spit out in whatever paper or conversation they might have.
This is the type of fast pace environment that is negatively affecting us; we are conditioned to find
our answers quickly. How many of us have actually gone to page 2 in an Internet search? If our
answer is not given in the first few links, we rephrase the question in order to get the answer we
need. We train ourselves to work fast and efficiently, and while that might be helpful at the
moment, overall it is hindering our ability to think deeply about issues. This inability to think not
only affects our research, but our day to day lives; we have trained ourselves to glance at an
image or post, and immediately draw assumptions from it. Social media is designed to be simple
and usable to all age groups, which forces us to simplify our posts,

What Is The Characteristics Of Gram Positive Or Gram...
Introduction:
There are two major classes of bacteria that contain peptidoglycan, Gram positive and Gram
negative. Gram positive bacteria will stain dark purple due to their thick peptidoglycan cell wall,
while Gram negative will stain pink due to their thin peptidoglycan cell wall. Many Gram positive
and negative bacteria are considered pathogens because they are capable of causing disease in
humans. In order to treat properly individuals who are infected with a pathogenic Gram positive or
Gram negative bacteria, the identity of the bacteria must be found. In this experiment numerous,
differential and selective media, as well as chemical test, were used to evaluate the growth patterns
and characteristics of clinically relevant bacteria. Data collected from the specific results was used
to create a chart that was used to identify an unknown Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
The genus Staphylococcus is a Gram positive cocci that is commonly arranged in grapelike clusters.
They are universally present in large numbers on the mucous membranes and skin of humans and
other warm blooded animals. They are non spore forming, nonmotile, facultative anaerobes. Many
species of staphylococcus can be pathogenic. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common pathogen.
It can be recovered from skin lesions, abscesses, and wound infections. It can move from these sites
to the bloodstream and urine, where it then has the possibility to cause more serious conditions in
various organs.

Definitional issues: entrepreneurship, micro enterprise and rurality Numerous definition of
entrepreneurship can also be found in the literature. Hisrich and Peters (1998) define
entrepreneurship as the process of creating something new with value by devoting the necessary
time effort assuming the accompanying financial, physic and social risks and receiving the
resulting rewards of monetary and personal satisfaction and independence while Zacharis et al
(2000) define entrepreneurship as any attempt to create a new business enterprise or to expand
existing business by an individual, ateam individuals or an established business . Micro enterprises
are typically defined as very small, informally run businesses, involved in activities other than crop
production. In the United States, Canada and Britain, small scale business is defined according to
the number of paid employees and total annual turnover. In Britain for example, businesses with an
annual sales of ВЈ2 million or less and have less than 200 paid employees will be classified as
small scale business. In Malaysia, small enterprise covers all enterprises employing between 5 49
workers; medium scale enterprise employs between 50 199 workers and large enterprise has more
than 200 employees. Micro enterprise employs less than 5 workers and is normally treated as an

that they are different and they bounce differently and are used differently. A netball has thinner
layers than what a basketball does, and a basketball is more used for bouncing that a netball.

Disengagement Theory Case Study
In a contemporary social work practice, Mr Anderson report detailed his symptoms which points
towards possibility of early brain damage (dementia), although further investigation is important
for early intervention and to find out what support he and his carer needs. Everyone grieves
differently and Mr Anderson s grieving process could have exacerbated his misuses of alcohol,
isolation and his mutual withdrawer, which reinforces the psychosocial theories; the
disengagement theory, activity theory and continuity theory, however, this log will explore the
disengagement theory and activity theory. Disengagement theory claimed that ageing is
inevitable, it is natural and acceptable for older people to withdraw from the society according to
Cumming Henry, (1961). Drawing from a biological perspective, Mr Anderson s physical energy
has decreased, as older adult energy diminishes as they age; also, his interest in the society has
lessen, he now has fewer interaction. From psychological level, he has been showing less interest
in things that are going on around him and he spend more time looking inward and embracing his

no research base, as many older adults wish to remain active and engaged in their community
activities, therefore social withdrawal doesn t have to be inevitable, it s a process and for some
people its occurs over time and not just at once (Harold

  • 4. The Oklahoma Home Front On April 6, 1917, the United States entered the Great War with the vast majority of the American populace supporting the ingress. Although there were some dissenting opinions on America intervening in the war. This dissent was typically seen from marginal groups of Irish and German immigrants who either had harsh feelings toward Great Britain or felt uneasy about fighting against family members in Germany. These demographics would be swayed by society to reform their views, or in some extreme cases be forced to. Furthermore, several groups who were not expected to support the war were given an opportunity to show their patriotism. Surprisingly, this could be seen by groups of African and Native Americans who were wanting to gain credibility... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These sentiments could be seen across the country, and in worse cases citizens acted upon these notions. As Farwell recalled, Those bearing German names were often molested, and in places lynched. Because of this those bearing German names changed them and several towns did as well. These views were commonly rooted in the belief that the German immigrants were spies, which was a nearly identical assumption the Young Turks made against their Armenian demographic. Nevertheless, these beliefs would dominate the American public throughout the war, and one cannot help but to theorize that the excessive propaganda and government intervention caused some of these biases to formulate in a small town like Tulsa. As it would be difficult not to want to defend one s country if the enemy being presented is of a barbaric gorilla rapaciously clutching onto a woman that symbolizes the Statue of Liberty. Even those who were illiterate in Tulsa would be able to discern from this poster that the enemy they were facing was not to be shown mercy or sympathy. Which in turn potentially caused perceptions of German Americans to be hyperbolized and soured. No person of German heritage was thought. Even the renowned brewmaster Adolphus ... Most courts prefer the proceedings of an ADR as oppose to Litigation. In some counties, the option of ADR must be analyzed before attempting to initiate the proceedings of litigation. Most district courts along with appeal courts will oversee the courts, and will resolve the remaining disputes. Alternate Dispute Resolutionis a large part of our legal system, which many citizens rely on to settle civil disputes. ADR has been a part of US legal history since the times of the colonies. However, those considering use of any ADR process should be familiar with the full range of dispute resolution options and related laws. ADR PROCEDURES The Act lists five ADR procedures available to Texas citizens; mediation , mini trial, moderated settlement conference, summary jury trial and nonbinding arbitration. In addition, variations or combinations of the five basic procedures can be used if acceptable to parties and to the court. These procedures can be modified with the agreement of the parties and any court involved and hybrid ADR procedures devised. • 6. Slavery Frederick Douglass Analysis The Wonderful Life In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, Frederick Douglass mentions that slaves do not have the privilege to have an education. In Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle explains that without happiness, doing something good will not really matter because you will not be happy. In Slavery, Jean Jacques Rousseau mentions that war is not the key to end slavery because war is only for states not against man to man. In Thinking in Education, John Dewey says that thinking is another method in learning because it will help students reflect on things. Life can be wonderful if people learn to find ways to keep that happiness in them. Rousseau says that if a person wants to gain more authority over the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dewey says that people have dwelt especially on the negative side because we let our minds think that there is a specific way of thinking (6). As people keep growing, their knowledge keeps developing. While people keep learning, they have to learn to accept somethings. One of those things is by simply being able to accept that if a paper is wrong is wrong but at least they tried. Looking at a paper or project that is wrong sometimes frightens people but it should not be that way because those who have bad papers become the best ones. Even though, people are wrong that should not stop with their education because of that. Meanwhile, Douglass was doing his chores, he was able to take bread from home and share with the little white boys who, in return, would give [him] more valuable bread of knowledge which was able to help him with his reading and writing (2). Being wrong does not mean that this is the end, instead is a way to motivate yourself to do the best as you can to achieve something better. People should not be letdown when they do something wrong because no one is perfect. People just find ways to learn even if I some cases they do thigs wrong. The whole point of this is to be able to learn and be wrong. People should not be disappointed if they do a paper and they do not pass. They will just keep in mind their mistakes for ... • 8. A Rose For Emily Symbolism William Faulkner s classic short story A Rose for Emily is the somewhat disturbing tale of Emily Grierson and her strange life. Split into five parts, the story flashes back and forth between Emily s funeral and memories of Emily from the viewpoint of the unknown narrator. The narrator remembers times when Emily refused to pay taxes, and another time when men went and put lime on Emily s yard because her house smelled so awful. When Emily s father died, it took three days for her to stop denying his death and let him be buried. The summer after her father s death, A Yankee named Homer Barron started seeing Emily, which was a big deal because her father had never let her date. One day, Emily went to a druggist and bought arsenic with no explanation, and the town thought she was going to kill herself. However, she did not, and the townspeople even assumed she and Homer got married, but they never saw him again. It was not until Emily died, and they felt enough time had passed, that the people broke down one of her doors that had been unopened for forty years. They found the decaying body of Homer Barron laying in the bed, along with a strand of Emily s gray hair on the pillow beside him. Although the story may just sound like a gruesome tale of a woman with necrophilia, there can be other meanings found through symbolism. A symbol creates a direct, meaningful connection between a specific object, scene, character, or action. In A Rose for Emily, Emily can be seen as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Death Of A Salesman By Arthur Miller And Fences And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream, Martin Luther King Jr. The American Dream is simply the idea that every person has the same chance to achieve success through hard work. The Death of Salesman by Arthur Miller and Fences by August Wilson closely hold a relatable pursuit of the American dream. In both texts, the parents and children were torn apart from each other because of their pursuit of the American Dream. This goal (American Dream) tears the families apart because in Fences Cory wants to follow Troy s footsteps by playing a professional sport, but Troy doesn t want him to get involved in sports because of he has experienced... Both of these fathers want to see their family succeed, but get caught up in family problems and both end up passing away. The mothers of these plays were key contributors to attempting to help their families get back together. Rose tries to bring her family back together by making the boy build a fence in the quote, Cory:I don t see why Mama want a fence around the yard nowadays. Troy: Damn if i know either. What the hell she keeping out with it? She ain t got nothing nobody want. Bono:Some people build to keep others out... and other people build fences to keep people in. Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you, (Wilson 2.1.32). This is a great point made by Nono because Rose is trying to make the boys bond by making them put together a fence, symbolising the reconstruction of their relationship. In the Death of a Salesman, Linda repeatedly attempts to keep the family together, especially in the quote, Biff: Will you let me go, for Christ s sake? Will you take that phony dream and burn it before something happens? I ll go in the morning. Put him put him to bed. Willy: Isn t that isn t that remarkable? Biff he likes me! These elements are a crucial part of the crime, the reason is simple: all of the elements must be present in order for a perpetrator to be guilty of housebreaking with the intent to commit a crime. 1.4.1 Breaking Breaking refers to a perpetrator that displaces some obstruction, which forms part of the premises, in order to create an entry onto that premises. Breaking can take effect when a lock, window or door is forced open or broken. A displacement of a fragment of a structureor building can occur, which indicates an interior break of the premises (example: a safe inside a home). • 20. Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura Research Paper Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a rare disease that people would never know existed unless affected by it. The disease is characterized by individuals having extremely low platelets levels. Platelets are created from megakaryocytes that are located within the bone marrow. The megakaryocytes break off pieces small enough to leave the bone marrow and join the other blood cells circulating in the body. Platelets are responsible for clotting the blood when an injury occurs. They do this by agglutinating, or sticking to themselves at the site of the injury. Platelets are responsible for activating other clotting factors found in the blood. If someone does not have adequate platelets, such as individuals affected byITP, they may not be able to clot their blood. For a simple scratch it is not too worrisome, but if the individual falls or hits their head they can experience internal bleeding that can be fatal if not treated. Two symptoms are hallmarks for ITP. They include petichiae, micro hemorrhaging of vessels that typically occurs on the lower extremities and purpura, excessive bruising of the skin from minor bumps and cuts. Through history ITP has not only... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Usually trials are completed on patients, but considering the ethics of such trials they may not occur. The results from the study determined that the bone marrow was not affected and therefore ITP was related to the platelets themselves. • 21. Compare And Contrast Classical Conditioning And... 3.To test which rats had received Pavlovian and which, instrumental conditioning would be to perform extinction. Extinction involves repeatedly presenting the conditioned stimulus without the unconditioned stimulus. Extinction that occurs in classical conditioning happens when a conditioned stimulus is no longer paired with an unconditioned stimulus. Therefore, for one group, you would remove the tone. In operant conditioning, the extinction can occur if the trained behavior is no longer reinforced. Thus, for another group, extinguish tone and food. By doing this, I would see that the classically conditioned rat s behavior would decline quicker than the operant conditioned rats. Also, another way to test this is to look at the delay in behaviors. In classically conditioned rats, it uses short delay conditioning in which the conditioned stimulus begins a second or so before the unconditioned stimulus. Thus, if you used long delay conditioning, the classically conditioned rats behavior of turning around to receive the food would slowly decrease. This is because the classically conditioned rats are used to the short delay and when the long delay is used the behavior will slowly decrease. In classically conditioned rats, you would see that the timing of the conditioned response will slowly decrease. With the operant conditioned rats, you would see that their responses will not decrease as quickly as the classically conditioned rats. This is because the operant conditioned rats ... However, this is not the case. It was a time where people were on the move for a World War, and inventions were being made daily. The 40 s were a time when the United States was becoming a leader in new technologies to simplify the country s way of life and to protect its citizens from other countries as well as the people who might think that they are better than you just because they are white. People in the United States were starting to invent gadgets to make life easier. In 1945, one of the main inventions was a computer named ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer). This was a huge step for the United States, and it allowed new technology to be made that could not be before. The ENIAC was a giant computer that stood two stories tall and weighed thirty tons. This super computer was a secret military project during World War II that was carried out by Jon Mauchly and John Presper Eckert Junior. ENIAC was invented to speed up the mathematical calculations that were needed to make ballistic firing tables for the Army and to design atomic weaponry. I appreciate this book a lot because the day I accepted Christ was when I finally understood that everything he did wasn t to get me a get out of hell free card, it was to be able to spend the rest of this life drawing me closer to him and to spend eternity with him. In that regard, the first part of the book was about what I expected, but as I was surprised, encouraged, and challenged as I got further into the book. The first point that stood out to me was the way we assign the way we value effectiveness to God; we assume that he gauges success the same way we do. I love the way the author presented the story of Moses striking the rock in the light of him doing only what he knew had worked in the past. He followed a formula; and yes, he was effective, but he was not faithful or obedient. It is possible to succeed without being in relationship with God. Along the same lines, one of the most helpful ways I ve heard this concept presented is from Moses initial reaction with God; God finding Moses and arguing back and forth with him while Moses makes excuse after excuse about everything he can t do. God is not a God of efficiency. What would have been efficient is snapping his fingers and freeing all the Israelite slaves from their captors in Egypt. But he chose to work through Moses; ... All were heroes in light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 states, Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (NIV). This verse embodies one of the components of a true heros character. The biblical heroes mentioned above were humble, led others by serving, counted others needs more significant than their own, and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but their lives demonstrate true biblical heroism in their strivings to honor God and serve others. Noah obeyed God s command to build an ark and rescued his family and the animals from the Flood. Moses led the grumbling people of Israel out of Egypt and into the desert after continually pleading with Pharaoh to let them go leave Egypt. Joshua listened to God s instruction and led the Israelites around Jericho s walls until they came tumbling down. The change that occurred was, for the most part, the result of the industrial development. The industrial advancements in the early 1800s had a huge amount of consequences, both positive and negative. But the industrial development from 1800 to 1860 affected the North and the South in hugely different ways. The prominent differences eventually caused an amazing amount of tension between the two regions as they moved in completely separate directions. Mainly, the North and the South differentiated when it came to cultures, economies, and political views. With the dawn of the 19th century, there were three revolutions that completely altered the United States.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though the majority of Southerners didn t own slaves, slaves were used in the South to keep the revenue up, and slavery was very much a part of the agricultural lifestyle. Political tension between the North and the South started early when there was disagreement over Henry Clay s American System. The American System imposed tariffs to support northern manufacturing, federally funded roads and canals, and supported the National Bank. Northerners were in support of the American System but the South wasn t on board with the plan. This protective tariff was a tax on imports, and since the South was receiving most of the imported goods, they got the brunt of the tariff. The South believed it was unfair that it was putting money into the North s industrial economy when the South was barely making enough revenue to support itself. While the South provided the Northern industries with most of the raw materials they needed, the price the North paid for these things were nothing compared to what the South had to pay for the manufactured goods the North produced. The opposition to the American System was so strong that South Carolina declared the tariffs void and threatened to leave the Union. But Andrew Jackson worked with South Carolina and the Union remained whole. This was the Nullification Crisis of 1832. The two regions clashed politically too. While the North became generally ... The Representation Of The Society Through Art Chinese Literature Student Name Institution Affiliation Chinese Literature Throughout the human revolution, the representation of the society through art has been a common phenomenon. On the advent of literary skills of writing, people could represent their world better than before. However, the artists were only allowed to present the social ideas in the acceptable or the classical ways. Unfortunately, this traditional method of conveying knowledge or ideas was limited and somehow unrealistic of what was truly happening in the community. The language had to be polished and altered to fit the social standards. Nevertheless, as the traditional forms of leadership shifted slowly from the feudal to more democratic ones,... Interestingly, Xun starts this story by using classical writing when introducing the sane friend but totally switches to vernacular when writing the content of the madman. The vernacular use enables the author to speak of the society as it is, using the very words that are employed in the society. Therefore, this makes his work more realistic. Furthermore, the themes that the author employs are authentic as well. Through realism writing movement, Xun criticizes the four thousand years old feudal Chinese system which has perpetuated human cannibalism. Through an insane man, the author exposes the real tribulations that everyday people go through and have come to perceive it as part and parcel of their lives. Also, Xun uses characterization to bring out the issues that would be considered uncomfortable in such governance. Therefore, the madman character, who has the social freedom to say anything and is more likely to be ignored, enables Xun to agonize the feudal system injustices. Apart from characterization, Xun employs symbolism and hyperbole in his work. In A Madman s Diary, the author uses cannibalism to symbolize the feudal Chinese system, which for thousands of years has enabled the wealthy to further benefit off the poor. As a result, the gap between the poor and the rich would never be bridged. Through the diarist, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Whiteness And Racism In the past, and even today, the whites in United States had constructed the issue of racism and has directed it towards certain ethnic groups throughout history to show superiority. This is referred to as Whiteness , which is a socially constructed reality; This means one s skin color shapes a person s view and lifestyle and is not inherent in an individual but determined by society. The term whiteness does not necessarily hint at one s skin color or heritage but rather is a social position within society. The ideology states that different ethnic groups within the United States must reach whiteness in order to gain a social advantage to benefit themselves. This can result in certain groups to essentially abandon their culture as well as the others who associate themselves with the said ethnic culture. This grants ethnic groups to obtain a small amount of whiteness but are not completely seen as white until the raceas a whole is accepted and seen as something that is considered white culture. Whiteness has been the reason for affecting national identity within the United States, primarily because of the development of racism and how it has been directed towards specific groups. These groups, unlike others, have failed and continue to fail at attaining a high social position, due to the fact that some of the first groups were racially incorporated in society and were seen as a threat to those who held a white , or the highest, status in society compared to other ... At the 1980 Olympics where the United States decided to stay home, the Soviet Union swept 195 medals the largest won in history followed by the United States in 1984 with 174 medals, when, by no surprise, the Soviets decided to miss. Ironically, the spirit of the Olympics turned cold alongside the Cold War.
