Game development using HTML5 technologies presentation, May 2010.
This lecture was given by Gil Megidish at AlphaGeeks #6 meetup in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The talk begins with some review of the game graphics techniques, and how you can achieve these with today's browsers and client side code.
4 demos were presented: sprites with canvas (luigi), framebuffer access (apple2 emulator), primitives and polygons (another world js) and image modifiers (droste effect.)
The lecture was given in Hebrew, ppt is English.
If you are using jQuery, you need to understand the Document Object Model and how it accounts for all the elements inside any HTML document or Web page.
What is JavaScript?
JavaScript is a very powerful client-side scripting language. JavaScript is used mainly for enhancing the interaction of a user with the webpage. In other words, you can make your webpage more lively and interactive, with the help of JavaScript. JavaScript is also being used widely in game development and Mobile application development.

Managing Abu Dhabi's $627 Billion Sovereign Wealth Fund (ADIA), Presentation ...Aaron Beydoun
Aaron-Micael Beydoun has estimated the depletion of Abu Dhabi's oil reserves in 93 years in a course on investment management at Harvard University. Managing the USD 620 Billion of the Emirate's sovereign wealth vis-à-vis the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, ADIA, he has proposed the following: Although an optimization of financial assets has established the portfolio strategic asset allocation, this ignores that underlying commodity asset i.e. oil, that forms the majority of client’s implied existing portfolio. Since the oil that forms the bulk of implied national wealth is highly volatile, then traditional portfolio investment risk management that only includes invested financial assets may not properly account for total wealth risk. Therefore, so as to properly account for national wealth risk, we recommend a strategic asset allocation that broadens the asset base to include the non-monetized commodity asset i.e. oil so as to properly account for national wealth risk.
Artificial Intelligence in Computer and Video GamesLuke Dicken
This lecture was given at the April meeting of the Glasgow branch of the British Computer Society on 12th April 2010. The lecture was supposed to be given by Dr. Darryl Charles, who fell ill a couple of days before the event, and I was asked to take the lecture instead.
In the presentation I cover the basics of why AI and Games are well suited and give a brief discussion of different types of AI as I see it. I discuss briefly how AI fits into the context of the game in terms of execution.
The bulk of the talk presents case studies in the format of Commercial game -> Theoretical technique used -> Research project using this technique.
It should be noted that the section on Left4Dead was omitted from the lecture as it was presented at the time due to concerns about the length

The Node.js movement has transformed the landscape of UI development. In this session we'll look at how Node.js can be leveraged on multiple layers of the web application development lifecycle. Attendees will learn how incorporating Node.js into your front-end build process can optimize code, allow you to use use new and upcoming JavaScript features in your code today, and to improve your asset delivery pipeline. This session will also cover how Node is changing the template rendering landscape, allowing developers to write "isomorphic" code that runs on the client and server. Lastly we'll look into using Node to achieve developer zen by keeping the codebase clean and limiting the risk of changes to the code causing unknown errors.
The things browsers can do! SAE Alumni Convention 2014Christian Heilmann
A talk about allowing HTML5 to graduate from a toy language of web enthusiasts to something used in every day web products. Shows how far browsers have come in support and how to use the standards without resorting to lots of abstraction libraries
In this, my talk for Webinale in Berlin, June 1st 2011, I give an overview of HTML5 history and main features, relating it all back to how possible it is use develop with these new features today. Thanks to Patrick Lauke for allowing me to steal a lot of his slides ;-)
HTML5 is all the rage with the cool kids, and although there’s a lot of focus on the new language, there’s plenty for web app developers with new JavaScript APIs both in the HTML5 spec and separated out as their own W3C specifications. This session will take you through demos and code and show off some of the outright crazy bleeding edge demos that are being produced today using the new JavaScript APIs. But it’s not all pie in the sky – plenty is useful today, some even in Internet Explorer!
A look at how HTML5 aims to plug the holes that Flash has been filling in browsers for the last decade, looking at both HTML5 and non-HTML5 JavaScript APIs.
For Flash Brighton in Feb 2010.
This PPT is about my best friends, HTML, CSS and JS. Here I am just talk/show few features of them. all three combined make our web site more powerful in this WWW world.
Flash over the years, has been used to prop up the regular browser like a sad old man drinking alone in a pub.
Today browsers come shipped with technology designed to rival flash and aim to shut it squarely out of the game.
Are browser ready to rock without Flash?
A talk I've given during Twitch's Dev Day in Tel Aviv in 2019. I've been working on some Twitch extensions and apps for fun. In this talk I'm sharing what went right and what went wrong. During the talk, I did a quick demo of actually writing a demo, live, that shows your speedtest.net internet speed.
Hack The Mob: Modifying Closed-source Android AppsGil Megidish
Talk given about modifying Android apps by reverse-engineering. How to download apps from Play Store (effective Feb 2016,) reverse engineering, re-sign and install on an Android device.
A lecture given in front of 2nd year Computer Science students at Tel Aviv University. My talk was about how small teams, of one to three people, are more agile and fit to changes than a group of 20 programmers. I prove this with numerous examples from the gaming industry, and from my own project, Dumpr.net

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
