About the Webinar
Two app modernization trends – APIs and Kubernetes – have reached a critical adoption point where many organizations are now seeking to deliver APIs using Kubernetes. As with the containerization of applications, this strategy requires organizations to figure out how to deliver APIs quickly and safely. For traditional applications, the solution is a load balancer or ADC which routes API requests from a client to the appropriate services – in other words, an API gateway. But with Kubernetes come different ways to deliver both apps and APIs, which have in turn spawned two new traffic management tools: the Ingress controller and service mesh. Organizations are left with the question “Which tool should I use to deliver API gateway functionality in Kubernetes?”
In this webinar, we help you answer that question by looking at the unique needs of containerized APIs (and their owners), sharing common use cases that can be solved with Kubernetes tools, and discussing what you can do to modernize your APIs for the Kubernetes era.
The document discusses how Verizon used Kubernetes to evolve their DevOps practices. It outlines their goals of accelerating cloud adoption, improving resource utilization and developer velocity. It describes challenges like supporting a large enterprise with varied developer skills. The solution involved using Kubernetes for everything as code, extensible automation, authentication/authorization, custom resources for logging, load balancing and governance. This provided a consistent platform to streamline cloud adoption.

About the Webinar
Many enterprises are adopting Kubernetes at breakneck speed as part of their DevOps‑centric digital transformation initiative. And yet the rise of DevOps in no way reduces the role of NetOps teams, who still have responsibility for the operation of the entire platform and its enterprise-wide application services. NetOps’s control of these global‑scale services is still vital to deploying stable and secure aps. In fact, where both NetOps and DevOps have an interest in an application service such as ADC or WAF, we often see duplication of that service. This is not an inefficiency, but rather reflects the differing needs and goals of the parties as they each make use of that service.
In this webinar we explore the benefits of duplicating application services inside Kubernetes and look at some well‑established practices for deploying services such as WAF for applications that are running in Kubernetes, including trade‑offs between different options and the criteria that matter most to help you make the best decisions. Our presenters will also provide a demo of how to use NGINX Ingress Controller to provision NGINX App Protect in Red Hat OpenShift.
NGINX AppProtect is a web application firewall (WAF) module for NGINX Plus that provides security protections beyond just signatures. Autoscaling in Kubernetes allows applications to automatically scale resources up or down based on metrics like CPU usage. It addresses challenges with traditional autoscaling approaches by being platform independent and scaling pods quickly using the Horizontal Pod Autoscaler. The document outlines an architecture that sets autoscaling to increase application pods when CPU usage crosses 50%, with a minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 pods. It then demonstrates this through scenarios of idle and heavy loads, ramping up users over 10 seconds to test the autoscaling capabilities.
Why and how to use Kubernetes for scaling of your multi-tier (n-tier) appli...Ashnikbiz
Kubernetes can be used to scale multi-tier applications by providing tools for container orchestration, including service discovery, load balancing, storage orchestration, and self-healing capabilities. It addresses challenges with traditional monolithic architectures by allowing microservices that are isolated, declarative, and can autoscale horizontally and vertically through features like horizontal pod autoscaling, vertical pod autoscaling, and cluster autoscaling. This allows applications to dynamically add or remove pods and nodes as needed to meet changing workload demands.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
