2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? 1 – The newspaper ad introduces and establish our main product which is the documentary. It does this by introducing the genre; title and an image that i believe conveys teenage pregnancy, it also shows where it will be airing and time and date. This is a popular way to introduce productions, it allows the audience to get a feel of what the documentary will be about and a easier way to get exposure and reach mass audience. The newspaper ad contain allot of controversy with the divergence of society’s views on teenage pregnancy, it really impose upon the audience minds. 2 3 1 2 – This is a scene from the documentary, it narrates storylines of newspapers that talk about teenage pregnancy. This was used to show the audience how the media talks about teenage pregnancy and what the media would describe as the problem. This brings other views inside the documentary and shows that our documentary is not bias. 3 – Shows a teenage father playing with his son, it shows that not only females are effected from teenage pregnancy. The camera shot is a medium shot which enables the viewer to see the activity taking place. This allows the reader to see the bond between father and son and shows that age doesn't matter. 4 - Adds variation to the documentary it shows statistics and this keeps the viewer interested. Adding facts is a common feature in documentaries, it shows truth and informs the audience that the documentary is not just opinion based. 5 4 6 9 7 8
3. 5 – Shows an interview of guest speaker Andrew Rosindale; Romford MP. We decide to include guest speakers to make the documentary interesting and to include different views, involving a Politian's means a political view will be put across and it also shows what the government is aiming to do to address the matter. 6 – Shows an interview of a teenage mother and her child. The child was a mis-en-scene we felt it would be effective and believe it shows realism of the genre. We included many cutaways of what she would normally do with the child on a day to day basis. The camera angle was purposely set up to obey the rule of third, this is a convention that is used when interviews take place 7 – Is a cutaway of the public walking on the high street. This is a typical scene that is found in most documentary. The title of the documentary is how society views teenage pregnancy and we wanted to illustrate it. On the top right hand corner shows the channel it is airing at HCTV, this just informs the audience of the broadcaster. 8 – is an interview of a teenage pregnancy counsellor. the first clip of her is shortly followed my a lower third information tab. This shows the interviewee details e.g. Name, what they are. This is popular when an interview is shown so the audience can know who they are and what they are. 9 – Shows the radio trailer on final cut pro. Radio trailer is a common advertising approach to draw in viewers the watch their production. We felt like the radio trailer could be effective as it is easier to target it our target audience as we could aim it at a radio channel which viewers age range is similar to our target audience. Advertising could be off peak and on peak, meaning reaching mass audiences. We felt that a radio trailer is more intimate with the audience as it includes our guest speakers ,some audio clips of some interviews and the details of the date, time and channel the documentary is airing.
4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? IMac I used apple Mac when constructing and editing my documentary, radio trailer and part of my evaluation. Apple Macs are industry standard computers which work incredibly fast.
5. Final cut pro Final cut pro was the actual software I used to edit our documentary and my radio trailer. Final cut pro enabled me to log and capture our footage, cut and paste clips to my timeline, move the clips around to their appropriate place, add video transitions to produce a professional documentary and add audio. Final cut pro is again industry standard software which is used by film makers and professional editors.
6. Equipment Tripod - The use of a tripod is very essential as when filming there needs to be a stable/steady balance and also helpful in achieving precise framing of the image or when more than one image is being made of the same scene. PD170 Video camera – We used a PD170, it produces high quality sound and also produces video to a high definition standard. Tie and Clip Microphone - The tie clip microphone is ideal for hands-free or discreet recording. This was always used in our interviews Headphones - Headphones was used to pick up the sound within the scenes but with more detail than what the video camera picks up. This ensured us that our sound was good enough to be used in the documentary. Paglight - Paglight is used to brighten the surrounding in when a scene is too dark. XLR Cable - XLR plugs and sockets was used mostly in recording interviews.
7. Photoshop Photoshop was the software used to edit my Newspaper advertisement. With Photoshop i created many layers to out together the final newspaper ad. I used Photoshop is alter the lightening and place the lightening on the pregnant girl and her stomach. I did this to dramatise the pregnancy. I added some black and pink font to put the details of the documentary down and also I used the pink font to give the newspaper ad some colour. I changed my image to black and white as I felt it gave my newspaper ad a better look and shows that teenage pregnancy is frowned upon. Photoshop enabled me to dramatise my image for it to have an effective effect.
8. Online websites Almost 70% of youths use Facebook, in order to reach our target audience part of our we decided to create a Facebook page. The Facebook page told our viewers what our documentary is about and when it will be aired. However our Facebook page is only limited to people who have Facebook, so we changed the settings and made it available to non- Facebook users and Facebook users. We used internet explorer to conduct all our research about documentaries in general , our specific subject matter and research in our target audience. Blogger allows us to create a blog. Our blog was used to put up our pre production work, documentary, and our ancillary task. Blogger was also used as a electronic survey, we used a gadget called a poll to get viewers to answer our pre-production questions. We used YouTube to upload our documentary and part of my ancillary task. We believed YouTube is a great site to reach our target audience 16 – 34, as they are more likely to be very technologically literate at using such technologies as YouTube.
