Definition
• A team sport includes any sport which
involves players working together towards a
shared objective.
• A team sport is an activity in which a group
of individuals, on the same team, work
together to accomplish an ultimate goal
which is usually to win.

•This can be done in a number of ways such as
outscoring the opposing team. Team members
set goals, make decisions, communicate,
manage conflict, and solve problems in a
supportive, trusting atmosphere in order to
accomplish their objectives.

Most team sports are played with a ball or
other object. Some of the most well-known
team sports are:

•Basketball
•Soccer (Football)
•Volleyball
•Football (American Football)

Baseball - a ball game played between two teams
of nine on a field with a diamond-shaped circuit of
four bases
Basketball - a game played between two teams of
five players in which goals are scored by throwing a
ball through a netted hoop fixed above each end of
the court

Soccer - a game played by two teams of
eleven players with a round ball that may
not be touched with the hands or arms
during play except by the goalkeepers
The object of the game is to score goals

bat a ball back and forth over a high net

teams of five players and one goalie each, and is
traditionally played on an ice hockey rink once the
ice has been removed or covered.

game played by players with a flying disc,
players need to possess a degree of speed,
stamina and agility to play to a good level
The official pitch size is similar to a football
pitch, but much smaller pitches are suitable
for beginners and younger players.

Advantages:

• playing in front of large groups, creating unity in a
community or city

Disadvantages:
• Team sports have a higher rate of injury, particularly
serious injuries.
• The team is only as strong as their weakest individual,
meaning there is an expectation of a certain level of
ability.
• Team’s success is dependent upon every person pulling
their weight, so if one player isn’t working toward the
team goal, the team suffers.
