Fys paper 2 on friedman
1. Harold Sowards
Part 1
I’m actually surprised that first graders were learning how to program computers, because I think
that should only be taught to people in college who are majoring in that area. I’m a little upset
about it, but the article does bring up a good point: technology is wiping out the lower class jobs.
To me this shouldn’t be allowed because the people in those jobs, shouldn’t be required to learn
new skills in order to be effective and be able to prosper. However, I do agree that by learning
new skills, you are in a better position to improve your chance at either a.) excelling at your
current job or b.) finding a better or new job. Also, don’t ever believe statistics they are always
changing. I also like the fact that Clinton supports college funding, and I’m a little surprised that
Obama is, because I heard recently he was trying to cut them.
Part 2
The fact that he has won Three Pulitzer prizes has me a little surprised and was glad to have a
chance to read some of his writing. Then I read that he was Jewish, and I was a little prejudiced
because Jews are kind of uptight and the fact that he wanted other people to be successful, just
made me think, “Oh, he’s just trying to get more people educated.” However, it does show why
he is highly in part for more Pell grant and government based programs. He also went to school
based of a scholarship, so he wants other people to get that opportunity from all walks of life.
However, the fact that he wants America to be a little more independent on everything thinks
that he wants us to try and dictate the world and show that we are a stronger country. I however,
couldn’t find his political party, so I have no idea if that plays a role in his writing of the paper.
