Urban spaces reflect the reality of city life, like a mirror. This research aims to examine and analyze the advanced aesthetic, functional, and environmental performance of urban public spaces by assessing the current situation and highlighting the role of creativity in developing these spaces. To clarify the research scope, Şişhane Park in İstanbul, Turkey was studied to define the requirements of creative standards, evaluate these competencies and choose the appropriate architectural style and urban furniture. In addition, to learn ways of preserving those elements for longer life. The analytical descriptive approach was the research method utilized in order to arrive at a set of results that ascertain the reality of the aesthetic, functional, and environmental performance of urban public spaces, and the reflection of the contemporary role in developing these spaces, which can contribute to addressing weaknesses and bolster the strength points in the formation of public urban spaces around the world.

A B S T R A C T
The typological features of university campus areas are shaped according to their locations in the city. Campuses in city centers carry great potentials for students’ cultural, intellectual and artistic activities, especially for those from faculty of architecture and design, with close relations to the city. In big metropolitan cities, it is hard to reserve land for campuses therefore they emerge as vertical settlements. On the other hand, campuses built on the periphery mainly feature horizontal planning characteristics due to availability of land. The aim of this paper is to develop an approach for measuring architecture students’ aesthetic experience of vertical and horizontal campuses in relation to sense of place theory. Recently, emerging technologies in cognitive science, such as brain imaging techniques, activity maps, sensory maps, cognitive mapping and photo-projective method etc., have enabled advanced measurement of aesthetic experience. In this exploratory research, using ‘photo-projective method’, students will be asked to interpret and draw ‘cognitive maps’ of the places that they are happy to be (defined place) or to see (landscape) on the campus. Based on students’ impressions and experiences, it will be possible to compare aesthetic experience on vertical and horizontal campus. Thus, a comprehensive approach for improving campus design according to users’ aesthetic experiences and sense of place rather than building technology, law, development and finance driven obligations will be introduced.

Landscape urbanism
Landscape urbanism is a hybrid of urban design and landscape architecture that focuses on designing spaces for change over time through multi-scalar and synthetic approaches. It draws on local ecology and culture. The term was coined in the 1990s and its status in India is compared to approaches in America and Europe. Grounding methodologies include integrating knowledge from various disciplines, understanding temporality, allowing ideas to translate across scales, and utilizing local intelligence.

The mutual relationship between man and nature brings multiple characters, functions and benefits to the landscape. Landscape services are crucial for the social and economic development and vital activities of human beings. Landscapes produce goods and services in the industry needs as well as that are directly needed by the individual in the cities and in the countryside. In this study, Çankırı, Ilgaz Region landscape services are analysed and defined in multifunctional way which are based on the basin scale. Then, qualitative and quantitative surveys were conducted to determine the priorities and significance for the Ilgaz Region and the priority services were identified.

My talk from the World Conference on Ecological Restoration on 10/8/13 in Madison, WI. My argument is: efforts to concentrate on watershed needs and processes in ensuring greater ecological returns from restoration may not be so easily implemented when it comes to mitigation markets. Outcomes are likely to differ from region to region, however. PES promoters regularly call for spatially-explicit approaches to restoration, but on the ground their efforts run into resistance from the entrepreneurs at the heart of these markets. Their concerns are both economic and ecological. I make the argument by taking us through how restoration sites in the Oregon market are planned for, chosen, and evaluated, ending with a discussion of what the case may suggest for other markets.

Valuation of Ecosystem Services in Development Planning, Guatemala
This project aims to integrate environmental considerations into development planning policies in Guatemala. It conducted a study valuing the ecosystems in the Chiquimulilla channel region, which is biodiverse and supports many livelihoods. The study analyzed how economic activities interact with ecosystem services and presented two development scenarios: business as usual versus sustainable ecosystem management. It recommends improved management and reduced impacts through policies like regulated fishing licenses and zoning compatible sustainable tourism. Coordinated land management is needed to sustainably implement the study's recommendations.

Current presentation summarizes spatial analysis studies of Taipei urban growth using ENVI GIS based image classification. The presentation consists in two parts. The first part describes the city, urban and social settings and gives a brie history of the development in 20th century. The second part is focused don the GIS based technical description of the algorithms of image analysis: classification of the multi-temporal Landsat TM series of the selected stud area of Taipei, Taiwan. Methodology aims at spatio-temporal analysis of urban dynamics in study area during 15 years (1990-2005). Research objective: application of geoinformatic tools, remote sensing data and application of methodology to spatial analysis for urban studies, a case study of Taipei. Current presentation consists in 2 parts: 1) Overview of the environmental research problem, urbanization and characteristics of Taipei. Consequences of urban sprawl for the global cities, such as Taipei; 2) Detailed technical description of the GIS part: remote sensing data capture, pre-processing, algorithm processing, image classification and spatial analysis. The spatial analysis performed by means of GIS ENVI enabled to use satellite images for social and urban studies. The spatio-temporal analysis was applied to Landsat TM images taken at 1990 and 2005. ABSTRACT : Today, urban spaces do not meet the needs of space users and do not have environmental
qualities. One of the important and constructive qualities of responsive spaces is their vitality and dynamism.
Improving the quality of urban spaces and creating dynamic urban spaces is one of the most important results of
urban regeneration. Using the urban regeneration approach, while respecting the values of the past, paying
attention to the needs of today's life and using this approach help restore dynamism and vitality in the ancient
urban fabric. Zargandeh neighborhood, which is a clear example of urban self-motivation neighborhoods, has
grown in the process of further development as a rural-urban context. Existence of decay has also caused high
risk against natural disasters, traffic and transportation problems, relief work, loss of identity and neighborhood
culture, and so on. Therefore, the aim of this study is to study the role of urban regeneration in creating a
dynamic and lively atmosphere in Zargandeh neighborhood of District 3 of Tehran. The present study was of
analytical-combinational type (combination of quantitative and qualitative analytical methods) and data
collection was done using documentary and survey methods and also information and data analysis was done
using SWOT and QSPM methods. Criteria and sub-criteria of the research have been designed in the form of a
qualitative questionnaire and have been provided to experts, city officials and citizens of the target area.
Strategies developed in this research have been presented according to the criteria of urban dynamism and
vitality in Zargandeh neighborhood of Tehran, in terms of economic, physical-infrastructural and environmental
dimensions. Finally, the proposed alternatives have been proposed according to the strategies. The results of this
study can have several applications for each of the groups involved, such as consultants, contractors, employers
and especially its stakeholders.

Landscape urbanism

The mutual relationship between man and nature brings multiple characters, functions and benefits to the landscape. Landscape services are crucial for the social and economic development and vital activities of human beings. Landscapes produce goods and services in the industry needs as well as that are directly needed by the individual in the cities and in the countryside. In this study, Çankırı, Ilgaz Region landscape services are analysed and defined in multifunctional way which are based on the basin scale. Then, qualitative and quantitative surveys were conducted to determine the priorities and significance for the Ilgaz Region and the priority services were identified.

My talk from the World Conference on Ecological Restoration on 10/8/13 in Madison, WI. My argument is: efforts to concentrate on watershed needs and processes in ensuring greater ecological returns from restoration may not be so easily implemented when it comes to mitigation markets. Outcomes are likely to differ from region to region, however. PES promoters regularly call for spatially-explicit approaches to restoration, but on the ground their efforts run into resistance from the entrepreneurs at the heart of these markets. Their concerns are both economic and ecological. I make the argument by taking us through how restoration sites in the Oregon market are planned for, chosen, and evaluated, ending with a discussion of what the case may suggest for other markets.

Valuation of Ecosystem Services in Development Planning, Guatemala
This project aims to integrate environmental considerations into development planning policies in Guatemala. It conducted a study valuing the ecosystems in the Chiquimulilla channel region, which is biodiverse and supports many livelihoods. The study analyzed how economic activities interact with ecosystem services and presented two development scenarios: business as usual versus sustainable ecosystem management. It recommends improved management and reduced impacts through policies like regulated fishing licenses and zoning compatible sustainable tourism. Coordinated land management is needed to sustainably implement the study's recommendations.

Current presentation summarizes spatial analysis studies of Taipei urban growth using ENVI GIS based image classification. The presentation consists in two parts. The second part is focused don the GIS based technical description of the algorithms of image analysis: classification of the multi-temporal Landsat TM series of the selected stud area of Taipei, Taiwan. Methodology aims at spatio-temporal analysis of urban dynamics in study area during 15 years (1990-2005). Research objective: application of geoinformatic tools, remote sensing data and application of methodology to spatial analysis for urban studies, a case study of Taipei. Current presentation consists in 2 parts: 1) Overview of the environmental research problem, urbanization and characteristics of Taipei. Consequences of urban sprawl for the global cities, such as Taipei; 2) Detailed technical description of the GIS part: remote sensing data capture, pre-processing, algorithm processing, image classification and spatial analysis. The spatial analysis performed by means of GIS ENVI enabled to use satellite images for social and urban studies. The spatio-temporal analysis was applied to Landsat TM images taken at 1990 and 2005. ABSTRACT : Today, urban spaces do not meet the needs of space users and do not have environmental
qualities. One of the important and constructive qualities of responsive spaces is their vitality and dynamism.
Improving the quality of urban spaces and creating dynamic urban spaces is one of the most important results of
urban regeneration. Using the urban regeneration approach, while respecting the values of the past, paying
attention to the needs of today's life and using this approach help restore dynamism and vitality in the ancient
urban fabric. Zargandeh neighborhood, which is a clear example of urban self-motivation neighborhoods, has
grown in the process of further development as a rural-urban context. Existence of decay has also caused high
risk against natural disasters, traffic and transportation problems, relief work, loss of identity and neighborhood
culture, and so on. Therefore, the aim of this study is to study the role of urban regeneration in creating a
dynamic and lively atmosphere in Zargandeh neighborhood of District 3 of Tehran. The present study was of
analytical-combinational type (combination of quantitative and qualitative analytical methods) and data
collection was done using documentary and survey methods and also information and data analysis was done
using SWOT and QSPM methods. Criteria and sub-criteria of the research have been designed in the form of a
qualitative questionnaire and have been provided to experts, city officials and citizens of the target area.
Strategies developed in this research have been presented according to the criteria of urban dynamism and
vitality in Zargandeh neighborhood of Tehran, in terms of economic, physical-infrastructural and environmental
dimensions. Finally, the proposed alternatives have been proposed according to the strategies. The results of this
study can have several applications for each of the groups involved, such as consultants, contractors, employers
and especially its stakeholders.

Ambato, Ecuador, is a current intermediate city, has less than 1% of the urban surface with use of public green spaces, which represents a figure below the 9m2/ hab., recommended by OMS. The aim of this paper was to identify urban public spaces that switches of green infrastructure in the city today, applying a methodology of qualitative studies. With an exploratory descriptive level analysis, in three stages, stage of theoretical foundation product of a review of the existing literature, which is the theoretical support of the relationship gray infrastructure public spaces equal to green infrastructure. Subsequent to this case study, discussed with criteria aimed at green infrastructure and in the public spaces of the study area. Finally, after processing and analysis of the results, we provide conclusions for urban public space as a definition of the green infrastructure of the current city of Latin America; in the latter, the focus is to support this article.

The historical urban landscape is a new approach towards the historical city as the product
of human interaction with micro ecosystem over the passage of time that has recently gained a special
position in urban conservation. This paper begins with raising the question that how this approach can
be used to solve the challenges of conservation and development of historical cities. Exploring the
conservation documents indicate that viewpoint to historical city has shifted from ‘the atomistic perspective
to holistic’, ‘static to dynamic’, ‘product-oriented to process-oriented’, ‘conflict with micro-ecosystem
to interact with micro-ecosystem’, and ‘the contrast of conservation and development’ to the integration
of them. The purpose of this paper is to review the northern Safavi Chahar-Bagh street of shiraz in the
city master plan to find out how the street conservation and development is based on historical urban
landscape. The data for this research were collected through observations and documents review and
were analyzed qualitatively. The survey results show that the new doctrines of urban conservation seek
to integrate conservation and development based on historical urban landscape; however, the definition
of the Historical city boundary in the master plan of shiraz is still based on static and atomistic doctrines
that consider historical cities limited to the historical wall. This is while the northern Chahar-Bagh street
of shiraz which was the main historical axis of the city during the Safavi period was located outside the
historical wall of the city. Not paying attention to this street has caused the gradual destruction of this
historical urban landscape, despite the individual protection of some of its elements. Reviewing the case
study based on the historical urban landscape approach reveals the need for a reconsideration and revision
of the developments urban plans.

With increasing urban sprawl there is a great impact on the future of cities and their sustenance. The primary intent of the study is to demonstrate an Urban Design approach towards a sustainable compact urban model in new growth potential areas (case of Cyberabad, Hyderabad, India) as a means to counteract city’s faceless sprawl and environmental degradation by generating compact high density, low energy, mixed-use living and integrating it with the existing city fabric reducing the ecological footprint for future generations. As the selected site offers good natural features, ecologically sensitive areas of the site i.e. Steep slope areas, catchment channels and climatically unsuitable areas from the open space system of the development. The sustainable compact city design approach balances the environmental loads and the growth of city saving resources, conserving energy and enhancing the quality of life.
