Intervention above and under the veil
which crosses the train line in the cen-
tral area of Presidente Prudente, SP,
Brazil, between the two neighborhoods
where the city started. The veil is the
last border between the past and pres-
ent, is a place of movement and traffic.
Leading to a reflexion about the idea of
city for all, with one language and sever-
al accents. The intervention takes part
on the pedestrian way located nearby,
and forecast a informal market above
the veil - removing the vehicules use;
under the veil are projected the public
services located in wagons of old trains;
and troughout the veil there are the
buildings for permanent social housing
and transitory social housing.

The city of Presidente Prudente has
been trough an expansion of the
territory which leads to the appearing of
differents urban gaps. Understanding
those gap areas only as big areas is a
denial of the urban design in its small
scale - for small scale representing the
level of the land lot, the street or the
neighborhood. Increasing the scale of
analysis on gaps, we find urban inter-
stices in the city, characterized mainly as
amorphous external spaces, according
to Christopher Alexander (1977).
Paying attention to those small residual
gaps, as alleys, corner lefts, square cen-
ters, underutilized backyards, becomes
necessary in order to enable the urban
redesign of certain areas of the city
This project analyzes an area in the East
Zone of the city of Presidente Prudente,
defines urban intervention guidelines,
proposes a project intervention in a
smaller area within the analyzed area,
starting from the road redesign, and
defines the project of the interstices of
this area. Thus, it turns amorphous
external spaces into spaces with
architectural, urban and environmental
qualities, collectivizing them, irrespec-
tive of their scale of comprehensiveness,
and reintegrating them into the design
of the urban tissue, on a smaller scale.

TETO denounces the exclusion and
violation of rights that exist in slums,
and works to ensure that these prob-
lems are recognized by society and
become a priority of the political
agenda. This volunteer program has a
model of intervention which focuses on
the most isolated slums in Latin Ameri-
ca. In an initial phase the emphasis is
on the construction of transitional hous-
ing, which meets a need that is urgent
and a priority in most slums. This
creates a link of trust between the
volunteers and the community since it is
a concrete, tangible and achievable
solution in the short term. In order to
deepen the process of community
empowerment, there is the Social Inclu-
sion Project in a more advanced phase,
whose methodology is based on the
development of the capacity of the
inhabitants and people involved in the
project. While Coordinator of Social
Inclusion at the community Spama (Piri-
tuba - SP) we developed along with the
residents several projects, such as Resi-
dent's Association, construction of the
community bin and concreting the slum
entrance floor .

Transcribe Summer Lab was an experi-
mental and theoretical-practical labora-
tory which intended to gather a number
of multidisciplinary professionals in
order to discuss the context and the
existing problems in three social hous-
ing neighbourhoods in Braga, Portugal.
This project is focused on Complexo
Habitacional do Picoto. Personally
responsible for mapping the problems
in this neighbourhood, we developed a
Social Issues Diagram which leads the
whole analysis and approach for the
research, film and publication. The
analysis is based on three different
levels: House (Private Life); Neighbour-
hood (Communal Life); City (Urban Life).
The goal was to propose a booklet
with several guidelines, based on laws,
to solve most of the issues founded,
considering a cooperation between
Braga City Council, BragaHabit (Enter-
prise resposible for the houses from this
neighbourhood) and different NGO’s
that are already working in Picoto.

BUILD was the Braga's municipal
project of Living Lab in Sao Vicente
parish working towards future city
decarbonization. It applies a collabora-
tive and co-created model, promoting
in a real context the development, pro-
totyping, and assessment of new tech-
nologies, services, applications, with
low environmental impact. Mobility is
the thematic area which was expected
to have the greatest impact on the
objectives and in BUILD's contribution.
Despite traditional planning focus on
traffic, a sustainable approach focuses
on people. The stakeholders engage-
ment makes public acceptance and sup-
port more likely, and usually help to
ensure long-term actions’ permanence.
 Therefore, I was personally responsible
for developing and appling several
activities along with stakeholders aimed
to involve them in the planning process.
 Through playful participatory process
and participatory mapping activities,
the stakeholders discussed the chal-
lenges of sustainable urban mobility,
pointed their perceptions of mobility in
Braga, and provided information for the
development of tactical urbanism
interventions.
