How technology impacts our lives ( finished)Devon Saysell
Technology has greatly impacted our lives in many ways. Basic home technologies like TV, computers, and phones allow people to stay informed about news and events and communicate with others. Without these technologies, people would be isolated from world events and unable to contact others in emergencies. Portable devices owned by most teens like cell phones and mp3 players also enable communication and help in emergencies. Cars and public transportation expand people's access to resources and attractions in other towns. Machines are used in hospitals, industries, homes, and schools to help people learn, receive medical care, and live their lives. The world relies on technology to support its population and future technological advances will continue making lives easier.

Social Media & it's Impact in Today's WorldStephen Mokiwa
Social media and it's impacts on today's world. On Politics, Business and Society.
I was invited by and presented this to the Rotaract Club of Dar City, Tanzania on 8th August 2015.
This document discusses how technology has changed various aspects of modern life including travel, communication, education, meals, home comforts, appliances, computing, music, health, work, shopping, and lifestyles. It covers the evolution of modes of travel, communication technologies, distance learning tools, food preservation methods, home appliances, computers, music formats, medical advancements, impacts on work efficiency and production, and online shopping options. However, it also notes that technology has not changed everyone's lifestyle as the Amish community still avoids most forms of technology.
The document discusses a 2011 study that administered anonymous questionnaires to 50 people to collect data on their social media usage. Key findings were that 60% of participants preferred Facebook, 45% spent 6-8 hours per day on social media, and students reported using social media for both academic and non-academic purposes but that overuse could lead to issues like wasted time, health problems, and cyberbullying.
The document outlines several advantages and disadvantages of using technology. It lists advantages such as helping people communicate, aim for better living, gather information, access government services, download content, improve education, provide entertainment, online shopping, and stay updated on social media. Disadvantages mentioned include technology addiction, wasting money and time, eye strain, plagiarism, neglecting chores, lack of privacy, increased cybercrime, ruined lives, and virus spreading. Overall, the document presents a list of pros and cons of technology use.
Technology poses serious health risks that can even lead to death. Mobile phones emit radiation that has killed millions of birds and contains toxic chemicals that pollute the environment. Computers can cause neck, back, eye strain and carpal tunnel syndrome. WiFi routers use electromagnetic fields linked to health issues. Medical technology causes 100,000+ unnecessary deaths annually from mistakes, radiation, and over-prescription of antibiotics. Home electronics and appliances all emit electromagnetic fields that impact health, with high risk areas being air conditioners, microwaves, fluorescent lights, and baby monitors. Technology is also negatively impacting youth by replacing important activities like homework, family time, and sports with excessive video game and screen time dependencies.
