Rhode Island innovates: A competitive strategy for the Ocean State
In the fall and winter of 2015–2016, the Metropolitan Policy Program at Brookings worked in association with Battelle Technology Partnership Practice (now TEConomy Partners, LLC) and Monitor Deloitte to advance a new competitive strategy for the state of Rhode Island.
This slideshow summary of the project’s final conclusions finds that Rhode Island possesses unique assets for building an advanced economy that works for all but stands weakened by the decline of its core “advanced industries.” Given that erosion, the slideshow asserts that five advanced industry and two “opportunity industry” growth areas hold out solid potential for growth in the Ocean State and recommends that Rhode Island should embark on a three-part strategy to strengthen its advanced industries and improve its statewide platform for growth.
NEO OPEN INNOVATION IN THE DIGITAL ECONOMY: HARNESSING SOFT INNOVATION RESOURCESIJMIT JOURNAL
Successive increases in R&D that creates new functionality are essential for global competitiveness. However, unexpectedly, as a consequence of the two-faced nature of information and communication technology (ICT), excessive R&D results in a marginal productivity decline leading to a decrease in digital
value creation. In order to overcome such a dilemma, global ICT firms have been endeavoring to transform themselves into disruptive business model. Neo open innovation that harnesses soft innovation resources may be a solution to this critical question. On the basis of an empirical analysis focusing on forefront endeavors to this dilemma by global ICT firms, this paper attempted to demonstrate the above hypothetical
view. Noteworthy findings suggestive to transforming the traditional business model into disruptive innovation that satisfies people’s demand corresponding to their shift inpreferences in the digital economy is thus provided. In addition, a new concept for R&D resources in the digital economy is postulated.
This chapter introduces the Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC). It first gives a brief overview of how and why the demand for skills has been changing over the past decades, focusing particularly on the advent and widespread
adoption of information and communication technologies and on
structural changes in the economy. It then describes how the survey – the
first international survey of adult skills to directly measure skills in literacy,
numeracy and problem solving in technology-rich environments – can
assist policy makers in responding to the challenges of a rapidly changing
global labour market.

The 4th Industrial Revolution Is Here - Are You Ready?Bernard Marr
The Fourth Industrial Revolution (and Industry 4.0) will dramatically change the way we work, interact with each other and live our lives. It's disrupting every industry and company in the world and offering tremendous opportunity as well as potential risk. How should we prepare for the changes?

'La nueva revolución de la producción: la transformación digital'. Este fue el hilo conductor de la jornada que celebramos el 14 de marzo de 2017 en la Fundación Ramón Areces con la OCDE. Inaugurada por Ángel Gurría, Secretario general de la OCDE, y por Álvaro Nadal, Ministro de Energía, Turismo y Agenda Digital, intervinieron diferentes expertos y emprendedores que explicaron cómo la tecnología está revolucionando la industria y los negocios.
STEM jobs (97 occupations that fall into the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields) are part of a critical cycle of economic growth. They are vital for national competitiveness, fueling the economy and creating more downstream jobs.
India’s manufacturing sector stands at around USD 350 billion as of 2016-17. According to CII estimates, this could increase to USD 650-750 billion by 2022, enhancing the share of manufacturing to 22-25% of Gross Value Added (GVA). In the long term, GVA could rise to USD 1.3-1.4 trillion by 2030, maintaining its share in total GVA at 25% in themanufacturing sector.
The book pinpoints that the digital future is exposed to the danger of chaotic, unregulated growth, which constitutes a challenge for countries that still operate according to traditional economic models, and that public thinking in the Arab region in facing challenges still follows the "reaction methodology" and temporary solutions with short-term prospects, and that this is confirmed by the current international indicators of its competitiveness. The book proposes that in order to address this, visions and efforts should be based on strategies driven by scientific methods, and with it the Arab countries must develop a clear understanding of the main challenges before jumping to seize opportunities.
The book shows that it is fundamental for policymakers and decision-makers to have precise and accurate understanding of the intricate details in digital transformation initiatives and the role that modern technologies can play in changing the rules and systems of current practices, and in how to develop digitized, more innovative business models with which to build resilient and sustainable social economies and systems.
The book also draws on the current data and indicators of the global economy and that they are pushing to form a worrying picture of weaknesses in Arab countries, which in turn may threaten the stability of the entire region, especially with regard to the "cognitive decline" and “increasing unemployment rates” and “poor economic performance"; and that these challenges call for dealing with it as key strategic indicators that require urgent action plans; with emphasis that these plans need to be designed to reflect different ways of thinking and adapted to the nature of the requirements and challenges of the 21st century and treat them as forces and positive factors.
The book highlights the importance of accelerating the implementation of a set of initial reform projects to encourage the development of more dynamic and developed digital business environments in the Arab region, in parallel with the development of educational systems and healthcare, and strengthening agricultural capabilities to achieve food security targets, and focus on economies based on industry and production, and promoting the development of Arab digital platforms to support e-commerce practices.
ICT Trends Article August 2014: The Gender QuotientGarry Roberton
Finding ways to encourage girls and women to participate in one of the fastest growing industries, both here in NZ and abroad is challenging governments and ICT industries to create initiatives and programmes that will help address the gender imbalance.
The third programme has taken place during 2020, engaging more experts on the pivotal shifts via virtual workshops and wider community debate. Here are ten issues that will provide future challenge and opportunity.
E7 Not G7
As global GDP rises, the seven largest emerging economies (E7) have increasing economic power. The relative influence of the old G7 Western powers declines.
Data Sovereignty
Large-population emerging economies see the protection of their data as a national priority. Wider data sharing is restricted to within national borders.
The Race to Net Zero
Cities, countries and companies compete to set the standards for the planet.Fully reducing emissions is central for energy, health and economic targets.
Electric Aviation
As the pressure to decarbonise aviation builds and technology challenges are addressed, using electric planes for short / medium-haul flights gathers support.
The Stakeholder Society
The shift from maximising shareholder value to a stakeholder focus accelerates. Organisations’ purpose, action and performance measurement realign.
Migrating Diseases
Health systems struggle to address the impact of climate change. The increased spread of ‘old’ vector-borne diseases challenge nations for whom they are ‘new’.
Peak Soil
After water and air quality, attention shifts to soil. It impacts everything from food and health to conflict and migration. Action follows deeper understanding.
True Personalisation
Ubiquitous facial recognition and digital identity combine with wider AI adoption to enable the creation and delivery of truly individualised experiences.
Resilience by Design
Global supply chains evolve to be more flexible, shared regional supply webs. Competitors access shared, not proprietary, networks and systems.
Proof of Immunity
Public concerns about health security override worries about privacy. Governments integrate immunity and health data with national identities.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.
