Fusion Applications – How it all started?
After the acquisition of PeopleSoft and its sister firm
JD Edwards in Dec 2004, Oracle announced that a new
product, Fusion, is to be released in the near future. Oracle
said Fusion will take the best aspects of the PeopleSoft, JD
Edwards and Oracle Applications and merge them into a
new product suite.
Year 2005 Understanding the features and finalize the base software
Get the platforms ready for development.
Year 2006 Finalize the team and start on the Functional designs plus some development.
Training on the new Tech-stack.
Year 2007/08 Development.
2009 onwards Testing rounds.

What Fusion Applications is all about?
 Fusion is Oracle’s next generation business applications.
 Oracle Fusion Applications are 100% open-standards-based
business applications that set a new standard for the way
we innovate, work, and adopt technology.
 As per the Oracle CEO (Larry Ellison) - Fusion Applications is

Embedded Analytics
Embedded analytics provides the key pieces of information
that every role needs in order to best complete or manage a
business process, and delivers that information directly to
transactional applications.
For example, in the context of creating and posting a journal, users should be
provided with information on how posting impacts the total account balance. Error
messages should be enhanced to allow users to quickly identify and correct errors
in the journals. If a journal encounters errors during posting, the user will be
presented with a pop-up error message informing him of the cause of the errors
and suggested actions. The erroneous journal lines should also be highlighted to
quickly spot the erroneous lines.

Interactive Dashboard
The interactive dashboard helps to manage business
execution across processes, roles, and organizations against
corporate objectives and strategy. Users should be able to drill
down further into the underlying detail transactions to
investigate problem areas.
For example, a GL accountant using a dashboard may be presented with
all journal batches that require attention, and he can drill down to the
batches and journals to investigate the problems.

The post button will now implement one-step posting.
When you press the post button, it will execute all
necessary actions to post the batch. Once all of the
necessary steps are done, it will then submit posting for
the batch
For Example:
1. If the batch is incomplete, then it will complete and validate the
batch.
2. If the batch needs funds reservation, then it will reserve funds.
3. If the batch needs approval, then it will submit it for approval.

Multi-Currency Journals
The ability to enter journals across currencies is very
important for financial services industry. Multiple entered-
currencies and multiple conversion rates can be specified at
the journal line level. Users do not have to create multiple
journals per currency; instead they can now group those
journals into the same journal in GL. It also gives users more
flexibility and speeds data entry.

Entered Currency Balancing
With the currency moving to the Journal Lines level there is an
urge to balance the Multi-Currency Journals also in order to go
inline with the Accounting principles. This gives rise to the new
balancing concept called Entered Currency Balancing i.e. to balance
the journals by Entered Currency.
Currency Entered Dr Entered Cr
02-000-1110-000 USD 100

Threshold Limit and Journal Balancing
There will be a new field at the Ledger Definition level to set the Threshold
Limit. It is the % of difference between the Total Accounted Dr and Total
Accounted Cr that the system will take into account while considering the
Journal as Balanced or Unbalanced. If the difference crosses the Threshold
Limit then only the Journal is Unbalanced else Balanced.
Debits Equals Credits Logic
IF Multi_Currency Journal then
IF sum(abs(accounted_dr)) = sum(abs(accounted_dr)) THEN
Journal is balanced
ELSE
IF Net difference of the Accounted_Dr and Accounted_Cr is under Threshold Limit THEN
Journal is balanced
ELSE
Journal is un-balanced.
ELSE IF Single_Currency THEN
IF sum(entered_dr) = sum(entered_cr) THEN
IF sum(abs(accounted_dr)) = sum(abs(accounted_dr)) THEN
Journal is balanced
ELSE
IF Net difference of the Accounted_Dr and Accounted_Cr is under Threshold Limit THEN

GL – Hyperion Integration
In Fusion General Ledger will provide a ready-to-use
integration with the Hyperion to use it as a Financial
Reporting Solution.
The entire Hyperion Financial Reporting solution for Fusion
as the solution must adhere to a strict latency requirement
of less than 5 minutes to update GL balances. These strict
latency requirements mean that a user must be able to post
a journal entry, and after 5 minutes run their report in
Hyperion with the updated results.

The general approach in most of the cases (where applicable)
will be to embed a program that will be generated
automatically upon the appropriate trigger (i.e. GL Posting or
other UIs like accounting setups or accounting calendar), as
well as provide that same program that can be run on
demand or scheduled.
For example: Each time posting is run and completed in GL, a separate GL
balances transfer program will be launched (separate for each ledger) to
dump the incremental / delta balances to the intermediate table from
where Hyperion will read and update the balances.
