Writing and Presenting Speeches
    (With me, Mrs. Cannon)
Speeches are
 another way of
      sharing
  information.
Just as there are
rules for writing
  a great paper,
 there are rules
    for a great
     speech.
1. Remember
that speeches
  are shorter
 than papers.
 Include only
   the most
  important
 information.
2. Your posture is
      important.
Slouching or leaning
against the wall tells
 your listeners that
you don’t care about
  your subject and
   they will be less
  likely to give you
   their attention.
 (It could also hurt
     your grade.)
3. Eye contact is
    important.
    It might be
 uncomfortable
speaking directly
       to your
 audience, but it
 makes you look
 more confident
 and keeps your
     listeners’
     attention.
4. Gestures
 give life to your
      speech.
Just be careful not
  to get carried
 away. You want
  people to care
 more about what
you say than what
  your arms are
       doing.
5. Have charisma!
If you are excited
    about your
 topic, everyone
        else
   will be more
   interested in
what you have to
 say and you will
    look more
confident (even if
you are nervous).
6. Don’t panic. Take a deep breath, and stay
calm. Delivering a speech can be frightening,
but you can do it.
